A bark of laughter escapes her. “You let him win?” she snorts, incredulous and stunned at the absolute ballsiness of it. He honestly sounds like he’s not joking-- like, too much so, so it encroaches upon comedic irony.

Kickback glares angrily at the red-haired man who is making him do so much work! Holy shit! Still, he and his Emolga headband charge up again, firing off another thunderbolt-- and then another, without stopping to really breathe.

A wild Scrafty sticks her head up out of the nearby brush. Cyg drops a Pokeball and her Quilava, Harley, bursts forward to hit the thing with a flamethrower and then tackle its smoldering body to the ground. Cyg tosses a Pokeball to catch it without looking.

Kickback and his Emolga were still dumping volts into the sky. A hapless Gliscor accidentally floated through the thunderbolt-- undamaged but knocked off course. It plummeted, and Harley was on it in an instant, pummelling it into the ground and blasting its face with flamethrower.

Cyg hit its scorpion-like tail with a Pokeball.

“Yeah, provided we, you know, survive the impending celestial apocalypse,” she commented with a snort. “I might even take part. In a tournament, not the apocalypse.”

Cyg feels like she’d just been admonished for not trying hard enough in school.

“I mean, I’m planning on it.”

Kickback continues to pour volts into the sky. Cyg frowns at him, worried he’s going to hurt himself.

“Rage against the dying of the light, and all that.”

A Croagunk pops up at the edge of their clearing. Harley is quick to level it with a combination of flames and his own body. Cyg hits it with a Pokeball.

“I’m just not going to… contribute to the world-ending.”

Which she didn’t actually know for sure but she sure hoped.

DETECT stops the THUNDER but not the SHADOW BOLT that follows. the unfezant drops to the ground only for a pokeball to consume it.[break][break]

togetic continues to evade, giggling as it weaves left and right.[break][break]

His last sentence evokes another laugh, a snort of incredulous humor. “Of course,” she said, narrowly fighting down a roll of her eyes.

Kickback finally relents, having to come down to earth, feet resting in the blackened, burnt grass beneath his voltage output. Cyg puts a hand on his head as he pants, bending forward. The lingering static causes the hair on her forearms to lift.

“Take a breather, KB. You did good. We’ll get ‘em next time.”

Kickback nods, falling back onto his rear end. Cyg looks up at Matias.

“I’d just--,” she started, wondering how best to explain her feelings of the situation. Why she thought the idea of him having to stop her from contributing to the ruination of the world was funny. “I’d like to think that everyone would be on team stop the end of the world, you know? Like, it seems obvious. To me.” Another chuckle. “But I know that’s wishful thinking, unfortunately.”

A statuesque Emboar emerges on the scene, ruff of fire warping the air around its face. Cyg repurposes the Pidgeot she’d caught earlier, launching it towards the dual-type in a brave bird that knocked the Emboar over. Cyg hit it with a Pokeball while it was shaking the stars from its vision.
