GROWLITHE ♀ JUSTIFIED | Fire Fang / Crunch / Rock Slide / Flare Blitz / Double-Edge

Fall was just around the corner. Soon, Hoenn's weather would begin to cool and usher in a new season - change which BARNABY FINCH was looking forward to. As he passed through the gates of the Safari Zone, he idly wondered if winter, too, would being with it even colder weather, as it had done the previous year.

This line of thinking was quickly dispelled once the GROWLITHE at his side yipped an excited warning.

Ah, yes. The reason they were here. Barnaby had caught wind of a recent TORCHIC overpopulation within the reserve. As it happened, he was looking to add the fowl's evolutions to his collection, so the coincidence worked out nicely.

He figured this would also be a good opportunity to work his recently-transformed GROWLITHE, now a dual Fire/Rock-type. Speaking of, she leapt forward, jumping into the brush after what he assumed to be one of the birds in question.

First time wasn't a charm, apparently.

Instead of a TORCHIC being flushed from the undergrowth, a lizard scurried out with an agitated hiss. A TREECKO with a bad temper, apparently, as instead of simply running off it's claw darkened to a ghastly shade of purple and the thing attacked.

Rude.

"Block it with Rock Slide!" Barnaby ordered just it time. Instead of digging into flesh, the TREECKO's NIGHT SLASH was negated by a volley of stones crashing into it.

Without missing a beat, Barnaby's GROWLITHE then barreled forward and landed a debilitating FIRE FANG. Seeing his opening, BARNABY FINCH chucked a Safari Ball at the downed gecko.

They wasted no time. With the TREECKO captured, his GROWLITHE once again ventured into the overgrown field, nose to the ground. Several minutes passed with nothing to show for her efforts besides the bending and careening of long grasses as she searched.

This changed within seconds.

There it is.

All of a sudden, an alarmed trill pierced the late summer morning and a TORCHIC flushed from the undergrowth. Unlike the lizard before it, the wildfowl was more panicked than aggressive, preferring to try and flutter away.

"Hurry, grab ahold of it!" Not an easy feat for the more sluggish GROWLITHE to pull off. Luckily though, she kept pace with the hovering bird, knowing that it was not capable of true flight and would eventually have to land.

Right into her awaiting jaws, fit for a nice CRUNCH.

Their first success. For Barnaby's intended quarry, at least. He'd set his eyes on at least two TORCHIC, though, so it's wasn't yet time to leave the park. If one of the birds could be found in this particular prairie, surely another could as well.

So, with an affectionate pat to the crown of his GROWLITHE's head, Barnaby set off a little further down the trail. He edged around the periphery of the grassland, eyeing the best spot to send his dog in. When one was found, a simple nod of his head was all the command his GROWLIHE needed to dive headfirst into the brush.

As Barnaby watched, he inwardly commended how skilled she was becoming at flushing out unsuspecting Pokémon. This time around the dog moved more slowly, taking her time to work through the many scents left behind by traveling creatures. Barnaby was so focused on watching her, in fact, that he didn't immediately notice the little MUDKIP waddling down the road beside him.

It wasn't until something round and blue peeked into his peripheral vision that he finally turned.

"Hm. You're pretty cute. You're definitely coming with me."

Lucky for him, the MUDKIP was rather friendly, coming to a simple outstretched hand for free pets. It even allowed Barnaby to pick it up. One Safari Ball later, and the Mud Fish Pokémon was his.

Still, his focus was on catching another TORCHIC. He turned back to the field where his GROWLITHE still prowled, waiting to see if it would flush another bird from the grass.

A minute passed. Then five. Ten. After fifteen, Barnaby was absolutely done waiting. It was obvious that the commotion from the previous battles had frightened away any nearby Pokémon.

With a sharp whistle he recalled his GROWLITHE, who came bouncing back to him from the field.

They continued on, Barnaby scanning for spots that TORCHIC might frequent.

Within ten minutes they had traveled far enough for the grasslands to diminish into a more grazed prairie. It was easier to spot roaming Pokémon, but didn't make good cover for some like TORCHIC, who preferred to avoid open areas in case of aerial predators.

Still. From the trail, Barnaby could see other Pokémon worth possibly catching. In the distance he caught sight of a gargantuan TAUROS - obviously the dominant bull in a band of young males.

"Let's herd it in, shall we? Here, I'll give you some help," Barnaby cooed at his Hisuian GROWLITHE, slipping his hand into his coat and revealing another Poké Ball. Another GROWLITHE appeared from within the capsule, although it was of the Kantoan variety.

"Alright, girls. Go get him." He ordered, pointing to the bull in question.
