SUMMER’S END BRINGS A CHANGE. one that proves pivotal to fernando’s growth but leaves him lacking, incomplete. more than just a physical piece of his missing from him. patience too wanes as his experience in THE CLOUD seems to repeat itself. there can be no more waiting or leniency for those that seek to destroy his home.

his kingdom.

his army.

himself.

He holds no sentimentality for the dead. to let them weigh against him means to divert attention away from those that still need him. his duty now is to the living. but as sure as cait alfric’s ghost still appears to him, despite the erasure of his avatarhood, so too does he travel mount pyre once more.

the construction of the PRIMAL POINT provides a valid excuse. but it doesn’t hold him when he ventures off the beaten path. his detour takes him to a stone that is new with polish but unmarked.

Ironically enough, he’s not here because of the primal point. Some Team Rocket members may think of discretely coming to Mount Pyre to scout ahead, some may want to get to know the terrain, but Mars himself already knows the eerie mountain better than most people in Hoenn. It’s no secret that he comes here often. Every week for over a year, actually. Pictures taken from the peak of the mountain are all over his social media.

Today, he had been going for a jog. Simple part of his routine, nothing more. He had intended to go up to the summit, taking one of the less common paths for the sake of avoiding most mourners and hikers and other visitors. After all, the whole reason why Mount Pyre is his location of choice is because the ever so elusive Unown favour the more solitary areas of the mountain. Exercising while looking for Unown – efficient, as usual.

What is not part of his routine, however, is the sight he just so happens to witness while in the middle of his jog. There’s nothing usual or expected about FERNANDO SILPH’s presence at this place. Mars could leave him alone, but a certain instinct compels him to step closer.

Of tousled hair, clad in athleisure wear, holding a water bottle, and with sweat lightly glistening on his olive skin, Martín del Mar approaches the councilman – a Riolu of bright yellow eyes standing by his side.

“INDEED,” is fernando’s answer to being called upon. he doesn’t immediately turn to face the source, nor does he recognize it by memory. but eventually, he rises from his half-squat.

when he finally turns, he quirks an eyebrow at the sight. mars is not among the first he expects to see but in hindsight, it does little to surprise him. the last time they had talked, in full, his black headband had been absent.

“looking for more unown,” he questions, all too familiar with both his intentions and its inevitable consequence.

The world is ever-changing, and in this endless mutability, they both have been affected. The presence of a dark headband that hides the absence of an eye serves as proof of that, for Mars knows well that behind it also hides an absence much greater. Martín del Mar has no reason to know this, though. P.O.G Bank’s CEO has no reason to have seen the jar that Lulu Flint displays in her office as the trophy it is to her.

To the man standing in this graveyard, FERNANDO SILPH is no more than an acquaintance; a fellow businessman, a councilman, and someone with whom he has no reason not to be cordial.

”Ha. Good assumption.” Silph is also someone who understands his way of thinking better than most people, apparently. Mars had expected as much; it’s the nature of someone who treasures information and pays attention to the details. ”I usually come looking for them while on my jog…Have to stay in shape and all, you know?”

He’s sure the other man does know, but for a moment there, his gaze wanders towards the freshly polished stone, noting how new it is. So new that it's unmarked. Interesting.

Mars is not a man who apologises often. Maybe he’s just too familiar with the need for silent mourning. He respects this place.

If only for a second, Mars exercises an attempt to find the sympathy in himself; the sense of guilt most people would likely feel when facing someone who mourns a death they’re responsible for, even if only by association. He finds no such feelings. He doesn’t know who or what lies in this grave and he won’t ask, but there’s only one thing that bothers him: had this life been taken to cause the councilman pain, or had there been another reason for it? Silently, he hopes for the latter, for no one deserves to lose their life because of someone else’s mistakes.

Calm, he merely looks at the stone, watching the way the autumnal breeze carries fallen leaves away from it.

FERNANDO SILPH deserves to suffer, he deserves pain, he deserves to pay for everything he has done, and he has earned everything Team Rocket has done to him.

”True enough, there hasn’t been a lot of news about what happened that day…” He had been there. He had seen it. He knows Team Rocket lost much more than what the League could even imagine. He knows they had protected Sootopolis’ civilians and that the safety of the city had been a priority. He knows Team Rocket isn’t to blame.

Martín del Mar has no reason to know all this, though. Martín del Mar knows as much as most civilians do. He has no reason to have been affected by Necrozmas attack and such is the neutrality displayed in his unshakable façade.

the click of his tongue reminds him that his mouth has long gone dry. a heavy inhale brings volume to his chest, raising it os that it may search every nook and cranny for his confession. against his better judgement, it slip between ground teeth, remorseful and pained.

Well… that sure is a take. Colour Mars impressed.

A crack seems to form in the often stoic and almost robotic demeanour of the councilman, allowing for signs of lament and grief to show themselves in his confession. Mars can hear it as much as he can see it, and yet it’s not in the nature of someone who lies for a living to assume people are being honest. Lies are always what he expects. Is that what this is? Some clever PR move? There’s no way Silph believes that bullshit, right?

”I remember Tapu Fini.” This time, there’s a nostalgic tone to Mars’ own voice. He had only really seen Tapu Fini once; during the Hoenn Star Tournament, on the day he first met FERNANDO SILPH. He doubts the councilman himself remembers, given all the battles he had taken part in during the tournament, but Mars himself does remember it clearly. He had respected the Land Spirit’s power back then, and despite it all, that respect remains.

He chooses his words carefully.

”I can't even imagine why they would do such a thing...” Rocket had never intended for Necrozma to take the legendary, after all, and the consequences of it taking any legend would have likely been nothing short of catastrophic. Mars forced himself to push away his anger over the damage caused by Silph’s escape – burning those feelings for the time being. ”My sympathies, Fernando. Although, may I ask how you know that she's gone? ...Is this something you can sense as her avatar?”
