As Gunner and Dagonet closed the distance between them and the dark-haired woman with the wolf mask, he could see that the gunshot had hit home: a chunk of the mask was gone, revealing a bloody gash along her jawline. Gunner grimaced. If only the sniper had aimed better, then there would be one less Rocket to deal with.[break][break]

No matter. Gunner came to a halt several yards away when she summoned an enormous Aggron. Dagonet stopped at the same time and glanced at him for orders. Before Gunner could speak, however, another DEFOG cleared the immediate area and a second figure stepped into view, accompanied by a Decidueye. The newcomer spoke, calling the woman 'Marza', then greeting Gunner himself.[break][break]

Be wary of her wrath, the stranger said.[break][break]

"Be wary of mine," Gunner replied, a dangerous edge to his tone, the technology in his mask distorting his normal voice into something lower and sinister. Grabbing a Poké Ball off his belt, he released its contents forward. His Typhlosion, Guinevere, emerged with a thunderous roar that echoed throughout the cemetery.[break][break]

As soon as she was out, Dagonet burst into action. Still looking like its master, the Ditto lunged at the opposing Aggron, appearing as if to aim its 'gun' at the Pokémon before TRANSFORMing mid-stride. One moment, a booted foot lifted off the ground; the next moment, an enormous clawed foot slammed down into the earth. In mere seconds, Dagonet had become a second Aggron, snarling and hungry for battle.[break][break]

While that was happening, Guinevere charged after her ally on all four paws. Once Dagonet had finished his transformation, she leaped onto his back, then pushed off to jump high into the air. The flames along her shoulders burned hotter and brighter, and from her mouth spewed forth a column of fire as she aimed an INFERNO at the Decidueye.[break][break]

Meanwhile, Gunner aimed his pistol at Marza. He had no reason to kill her outright — he was not a murderer, after all — but he could certainly incapacitate her. She seemed the most likely to attack him directly, so in the chaos of the Pokémon battle, he fired, aiming for a nonlethal injury to her leg to keep her from climbing the mountain.

Marza was thankful that at least the man seemed to have a spine, even if it wasn't going to save him. He picked the wrong fight and she'd make sure he'd pay for it, especially having noted the gun in his hand. Still feeling the sting of the shot across her cheek, she put two and two together. It didn't much matter to her if he had been the culprit or not.

The space between them was suddenly swallowed then by the size of the two behemoth beasts. Vishna didn't seem to appreciate the mimicry all that much and her roar simmered with a mirrored reflection of Marza's anger. She and Fern had worked together long enough to know that despite his dramatics, he could usually handle his own. So her concern for him dropped pretty damn quickly.

Vishna lunged at the imposter aggron with METAL CLAW, surprisingly fast for her size. The gun raised and Marza only needed to be shot once that day to know not to stick around. Even then, she felt the sharp bite of the bullet graze her thigh. With another muffled curse, she whipped around behind the looming form of her Aggron.

Marza had never been a passive participant in any fight and she didn't intend to change that letting herself get crippled from the start. Vishna ducked a little, almost a feint-like movement that allowed her to scale up the Aggron's back. Vaulting over an armored shoulder, she cut the space between herself and the man. Rolling as she hit the ground, she struck out at the weapon in his hand. The wound slowed her down though, so she was either going to be successful or get shot a third time that day.

It’s a nice entrance, isn’t it? Not as flashy as Fern might’ve preferred, but it could’ve been worse by far. A brow lifts behind the tall-eared fox mask he dons when their impromptu opponent replies in a gravelly threat. And then the jackal laughter starts, rolling out from under the mask and bouncing off the rock-face of Mt. Pyre in echoed cacophony. His hand lifts to his chest and presses against his heart.[break][break]

He mimes wiping a tear from the corner of one lupine eye. “I’ll take that into consideration~” Laughing in the face of a very obvious danger is foolhardy and ill-advised, and thoroughly Fern. Besides, Marza’s got the silent, feral rage covered.[break][break]

Things divide from the moment the ditto shifts away from a humanoid form with mildly disturbing liquidity. Working jointly with Marza means trusting that she can hold her own, and so his attention turns to the second pokemon released. Before he can instruct Mabel, Gunner Graves ’s typhlosion springs into movement and launches itself off of the morphed aggron’s back.[break][break]

“Evade!” he calls out, “get somewhere high before–” The searing heat of infernal flame follows the decidueye too voraciously. The flames lick at her taloned feet and curl up her legs and tail feathers as she tries to fly straight upward in evasion. The shriek that follows ensures that damage has been taken, and though she manages to perch on a higher, rocky outcropping above him, her slowed speed informs her of that severely weakened state.[break][break]

Fern whistles regardless, because even if she’s hanging on by a thread, she’ll at least attempt to retaliate. Mabel draws herself up, wings outstretched and feathers fluffed as bright eyes glow eerily from under her hood. Her LONG REACH ensures that she can still wield an attack while keeping her distance, and the unearthly, piercing shrieks she aims at the typhlosion nearly drown out the gunshot that follows. If not very damaging, the result will hopefully buy him enough time to reassess.[break][break]

The way Marza pushes through the direct attack earns hoots and whoops from Fern – encouragement from the side as she attempts to disarm the man. He’s not getting in the middle of that unless he absolutely has to, but he can absolutely contribute to the aural chaos.

Dagonet roared with an Aggron's throat as its adversary's METAL CLAW caught a weak spot between two armored plates along its chest. The transformed Ditto retaliated with its opponent's own tactics, whipping around with an astonishing speed to strike with IRON TAIL — but not before the unknown woman, Marza, leaped off her Pokémon's back, lunging straight for Gunner.[break][break]

The next few seconds were a flurry of action. Marza rolled as soon as she hit the ground and sprang up expertly, warning Gunner that she was skilled in a fight. Though her hand whipped out and smacked the handgun out of his, he stepped in with left fist clenched. A lightning-quick jab shot at her right temple while Gunner's now empty right hand rose defensively to block any blows to his own head.[break][break]

Meanwhile, Guinevere hit the ground on four paws, snarling. The Decidueye's ASTONISH smashed into her from afar, sending her staggering back a couple of steps. She shook her head furiously, but whatever attempt to temporarily stun her had not worked. Sighting her prey, she ran straight for the owl Pokémon with a FLAME CHARGE, dashing up the rocky as flames burst all along her body.

The bastard wasn't a lightweight, by any means, but that only made things interesting. She hadn't exactly started out on easy mode so far, so why would the universe quit now while it was ahead by giving them a weakling? Movement flashed behind them as the ditto-aggron's tail slammed against Vishna. With a roar, the Aggron back-stepped thrown off balance and nearly falling on fern delaney before catching her balance. Fury emanated off of the behemoth as she gathered her strength once more with IRON DEFENSE, before throwing her weight forward with a HEAVY SLAM. Big and bulky as she was, she had limitations and Marza knew that eventually the big tank of a pokemon would tire herself out at some point. She needed more training in restraint and control, but that wasn't exactly Marza's forte either.

Yet, right then, her attention wasn't on the aggron but on the adversary in front of her. It had been a long time since she'd had a fight with someone that could actually fight back. She smiled dangerously under the cracked half of her mask as the weapon thudded against the ground out of reach. Even ground was only fair, after all. Not that they were exactly playing fair, considering it was 2 on 1.

The blow to the head made the wound on her jaw burn, making a searing pain seep into her skull. Pain was acceptable, tolerance was ideal. Frustratingly, her own strike was blocked. One step in, she feinted back, a heavy kick was aimed for the other's gut while her arms guarded against any quick strikes.

The sudden backward lurch of Vishna out of the corner of his eye has fern scrambling to get the hell out dodge in case the aggro can't catch herself. The last thing he wants is to join the specters of Mt. Pyre by being flattened like a pancake. She does right herself, but her tail nearly clips him as she lunges back into action, and while Marza Volchitsa and Gunner Graves continue to tussle, he is falling flat on on his backside to scuttle backward.[break][break]

A quick, embarrassing dust off later, his attention returns to the typhlosion and her persistence in pursing Mabel. The flinch maneuver rendered ineffective, Fern is out of range to call the decidueye back before Guinivere reaches her rocky hiding spot, fur blazing and singeing tawny feathers further. He whistles to rouse her back into retreat, but this last attack has done the trick and she collapses, unconscious and incapable of continuing.[break][break]

Not about to lose ground, Fern quickly releases his galarian corsola in a bid to distract the typhlosion so that he might recollect the decidueye into her ball for safekeeping. Cora, like his dragapult, is one of his most seasoned pokemon, and so knows what to do right out the gate without a direct, verbal command. They've practiced for things like this - his little escape artist.[break][break] Scuttling forward, she hovers like the ghost she is and blasts a bright, blinding beam of shimmering POWER GEM at the typhlosion as it hopefully is returning from the ledge.

Despite very much appearing like an Aggron and acting like an Aggron, Dagonet did not have the Iron Armor Pokémon's endurance or hardiness. Its opponent's hard-hitting attack knocked Dagonet off its feet and the wind out of its lungs. Unable to maintain its transformation, it reverted back to its original body.[break][break]

Gunner watched Dagonet's defeat in the corner of his eye, but Marza's kick caught him squarely in the abdomen, sending him staggering backward. She also seemed to be fighting on the defensive, with her arms up to protect her head, so Gunner took the opportunity to recall his Ditto. As he strafed around Marza toward his dropped pistol, he switched to another Poké Ball and released his Inteleon, Balin.[break][break]

"Get the Aggron!" Gunner shouted. The reptile darted forward, all speed to combat the Aggron's bulk and strength. As he ran, the clouds above rumbled with foreboding, then unleashed a torrent of rain upon the area, soaking everything. His moves boosted by the RAIN DANCE, Balin aimed a SNIPE SHOT at the Aggron.[break][break]

Unfortunately, the rain was not going to help out Guinevere. She received the brunt of the Cursola's POWER GEM, forcing her off the rocky ledge and back down near the headstones. The Typhlosion immediately dashed back to Gunner's side, disappearing in a flash of light as he held out her Poké Ball for her return. Switching capsules quickly, he unleashed another Pokémon onto the field to deal with the Cursola: his Zoroark, Mordred.[break][break]

But a Zoroark is not what came out. Instead, what appeared was another Ditto. It dashed across the battlefield with a speed not normally associated with the Transform Pokémon, boosting itself with HONE CLAWS before striking at the Cursola with NIGHT DAZE.

As much as she wanted to go all out, it felt like a waste to spare her energy on a single man. Especially when they still had the peak of the mountain to deal with and all of the league that came with it. Beyond Fern, she'd yet to see another Rocket and it was beginning to aggravate her. Rather than attacking outright, she chose instead to conserve energy on the defensive. However, Gunner Graves ' attention moving to the weapon did not escape her. "I suggest you focus on your opponent, instead of your crutch." She growled, though her attention was drawn by the furious and pained roar from Vishna.

The Aggron didn't have much energy left, but she couldn't afford yet to pull her back. Not with her opponent's focus returning to the pistol. Instead, the Aggron decided on last ditch effort of ROCK TOMB, using the surrounding of the mountain to its benefit in attempt to crush its opponent. Marza took the distraction then to rush forward, either taking her opponent off guard or manage to beat him to the gun.

The retreating typhlosion is a good sign in the wake of his decidueye’s collapse. Fern is able to successfully recall her while Cora does her work – as is expected of the corsola who remains vigilant for any new opponent.[break][break]

His near-crush experience with Marza’s aggron has Fern darting around the field, more out of an attempt to stay away from the crossfires of their clashing pokemon again. While not the strongest or hardiest, Fern has always been quick enough on his feet. It’s a skill he used to his favor when he was young and constantly finding trouble. Or he would argue that trouble found him, rather. Whichever it is doesn’t really matter in the moment as he watches Marza Volchitsa and Gunner Graves grapple with one another in attempt to reach the man’s first.[break][break]

Maybe he should help with that, huh?[break][break]

Lickety split, Fern closes the distance and draws close – obviously aided by the fact that he is, well you know, not physically inhibited by an opposing force. The sole of his boot steps down on the barrel with only enough force to drag it back further from reach. “Oops. Were you wanting that?” he asks with a tilt of his head as he looks down at the stranger. Obviously the remark is not meant for Marza.[break][break]

He hesitates on actually picking the gun up, because well, it’s not his weapon of choice (those are strapped to him inside his jacket.)[break][break]

He is momentarily distracted by the second, freaky little ditto that zooms across the field with a speed that is very…not ditto-like. As it boosts itself, Fern whistles in signal for Cora to twist away from the darkened shock waves that come from the blast of NIGHT DAZE. She’s not quite quick enough to fully evade the attack and it briefly stuns the corsola before she scuttles around and fires back with an erratically aimed ANCIENT POWER that uproots old earth around them.

Despite Balin's speed, ROCK TOMB clipped the Inteleon, causing him to stumble. Changing tactics, he rushed straight for the Aggron and climbed upon the hulking Pokémon's shoulders. Balin's tail lengthened to wrap Aggron in a BIND, squeezing tightly before pouring water all over his opponent using LIQUIDATION.[break][break]

Nearby, the Cursola's ANCIENT POWER smacked Mordred, knocking him aside. The illusion of a Ditto wobbled and faded, revealing the true form of the dark-furred Zoroark. Snarling, Mordred staggered back to his feet and rushed forward. His form blurred as AGILITY brought him to his foe's side in a heartbeat, his eyes glowing with another NIGHT DAZE aimed point-blank at the Cursola.[break][break]

Between the humans, the pause in combat was only long enough to catch a breath. Then Marza charged Gunner and the strange man reached Gunner's weapon before he could even lunge for it.[break][break]

In the span of a heartbeat, the agent made a snap decision. He dropped into a defensive stance. As soon as Marza was upon him, he grabbed the front of her shirt. Using her momentum, he attempted to throw her onto the ground — though there was the very real danger he would fall, too. But if he could daze her even for a moment, he could rush at her partner and get his weapon back.[break][break]

The rocky ledges of Mt. Pyre were steep, their edges jagged.

The aggron let out a pained noise as the Inteleon unleashed one last critical attack. The sound of heavy weight on rocky earth was all that Marza needed to know Vishna was down. It was just enough of a distraction, however, to pull her away from the fight. Shit. Bad idea. A moment of fractured focus and she knew she'd fucked up. A heavy grip caught the front of her shirt, weight suddenly shifting.

The world spun and then she felt the hard earth underneath her with a barely muffled grunt. Under normal circumstances, she might have attempted a quick retaliation, switched to a hold or grapple. Yet, admittedly, she was tired and jarred. The rocky earth knocked the wind out of her. This had not been part of the plan, but that was sort of the plan, wasn't it? Chaos was Rocket's greatest ally.

Still, she couldn't leave Fern's scrawny ass to deal with the assailant. So, she lashed out with a kick, one last attempt to knock the legs out from under him.

If he could like, legitimately help, he would. Unfortunately Marza was both taller and stronger than him so there was no way that he was going to be able to yank her up out of the way of Gunner Graves ’s dive against her. The best he could do, in the frenzy of the moment, was kick the gun a bit further away out of sight– obscured by the fog that had begun to rise once again now that his decidueye was out of the game.[break][break]

The rattling cry of his corsola pulled his focus once more, and Fern caught sight of her cornered by what apparently was actually a zoroark, and not a ditto at all, as she took the heavy brunt of a second NIGHT DAZE. The point blank physicality of it tripped her WEAK ARMOR and with the last bit of stamina she had, Cora wiggled away in a hasty retreat back to Fern’s side before collapsing.[break][break]

Gathering her back into her pokeball, he freed his dragapult once again and turned back toward the fight, bracing for the fact that he might have to make a run for it if Gunner Graves freed himself from Marza’s efforts to topple him. But then again, that’s what utilizing Cecilia’s PHANTOM FORCE was for, though he hoped it wouldn’t come to that because he was pretty sure he couldn’t fit the two of them, plus her unconscious aggron through the rift all at once.

As soon as Marza hit the ground, Gunner backed off, narrowly dodging a foot that sought to topple him. His golden eyes snapped to her accomplice in time to watch them kick Gunner's pistol even further away. Swearing, the agent lunged for his next opponent when a sharp cry froze him in place.[break][break]

That voice. It belonged to PENELOPE LIVY.[break][break]

She was nearby.[break][break]

Gunner whirled around. There, along the steps leading up Mt. Pyre — he caught a flash of dark red hair and the light of a Pokémon being released from a ball. Opposite Miss Livy stood a short, masked man. A Rocket.[break][break]

In mere seconds, Gunner assessed the battlefield. He had the upper hand in his corner of it, but a threat to the councilwoman's life took precedence over any personal victory. Resigned without feeling bitter, he whistled sharply to Balin and Mordred.[break][break]

"To me!" he snapped. At once, they obeyed, following their master into the fog to pursue greater foes.

Well this was a little embarrassing, now wasn't it? She was still grounded and things were out of her control, which she didn't enjoy. Fern got to the gun first and he... kicked it away. "Are you fucking serious right now?" She grumbled, locking eyes with the scrawny bastard. Leave it to him to throw a perfectly viable weapon away. Luckily (or unluckily), their opponent seemed to have set his sights on something else.

She should've been happy at the break in tension. The fight was to be cut prematurely short. Instead, it only managed to piss her off, this wasn't the first time that she'd had a fight cut short.

She sat up as the man vanished into the fog. Returning Aggron to her pokeball, she cast another look at Fern and remarked. "Well that was bullshit."
