Melody and Navy split off, somewhere along the way. On the chaos of an open battlefield, hundreds of things could go wrong. Every moment to moment decision of every individual ultimately contributed to the outcome of the battle. Fafnir returned to his pokeball to rest after the skirmish with the grunts. The powerful, all-devouring wyrm needed its rest after being released to rip and tear. In his place, Navy unleashed Roland, his Gallade.[break][break]

Sensing the chaos, Roland stuck to Navy like glue. Its keen red eyes surveyed, ready to defend from the encroaching rockets. One of them, wearing a mask, locked eyes with Navy. Whatever blood flowed through Navy’s veins turned to ice at the sight of the masked man. Navy knew that mask. He knew it very well, as a matter of fact. After his brother’s death in Sootopolis, he had reviewed every scrap of information he could. Every fact, every camera, every video. That masked man was one of the most well known figures from that day, having killed an ace Pokemon.[break][break]

He was a beast. One of the strongest trainers Rocket had. A walking symbol of their power. Everything the grunts aspired to be. A rallying cry.[break][break]

And Navy could not have cared less about any of that. Even if the man before him wasn’t personally responsible for his brother’s death, he was a symbol of Rocket. One of their main weapons.[break][break]

Gallades lacked their sister evolution’s pronounced empathy abilities, but Roland still knew something was amiss. Enough of that latent ability remained for him to sense the inferno boiling inside Navy. The detective started marching towards the Rocket. There was a boundless fire in Navy’s eyes. His gloved hands were balled into fists.[break][break]

“Nothin’ personal, huh, mate?” He spat. “That makes one of us. This is plenty personal for me. Roland, get in close. Fuck ‘em up.” Roland understood his master’s order. He understood it very well. The red scarf Navy gave him fluttered as he dashed in a reckless rush for the trainer and Pokemon. At the last second, perhaps not wanting to harm a human, Roland redirected his attack on the jet black Greninja.[break][break]
