Locke landed Latias at the back of the theater-the farthest he could get from bryan delarosa for the time being.

"If he didn't want anyone near the theater," he grumbled between catching his breath, "then maybe he shouldn't have trapped us here."

The courier slid from the legendary's back while giving the new area a careful inspection. It didn't seem like there was way out here either, the thrashing vines had completely surrounded the building in a makeshift dome.

While Locke wasn't finding any luck with their search, Latias did spot something.

They had only a brief second to react to the flash of alertness sent through their connection, before their companion fired a Mist Ball somewhere to the western corner of the theater. Dust exploded in that area, obscuring their view as they tried to catch whatever danger Latias had sensed first.

he's running out of pokemon he can safely throw out.

his gabite is staying in its ball whether it liked it or not. his main method of intimidation to avoid conflict in the form of his ultra beast was down. his ways of diffusing a fight with illusion or teleport weren't doing well either.

he's stuck with a shadow pokemon and an incendiary pokemon.

he holds two pokeballs as he mulls over his choices on how to proceed on his way to regroup with bryan delarosa, he gets stopped in his tracks by a move.

"dude! not cool!" he shouts. "if ya wanna fight, don't jus' go throwin' a sucker punch in! where's ya manners, bro!"

in a split second, priam makes a decision and throws his koffing's pokeball on the ground. vision remains obscured as poison gas seeps form the koffing, lacing it with its neutralizing gas.

priam's helmet provides protection from it, with the added bonus of muffling his voice. it doesn't, however, hide his mannerisms in his speech.

The other man was quicker on his feet than they were, further hiding himself beneath a wave of billowing gases. Locke instinctively raised a hand to their face, but it failed to protect them from the cloud of choking poison and they immediately went into a coughing fit as their body tried to expel the foreign substance.

But there-the flash of a helmet. The accent was familiar, but the only masked person on the League's side was Kazimir Wynter, signalling the stranger's allegiance.

Their companion suddenly dropped beside them, flailing uselessly on the ground as her Levitation gave out and surprising her enough to fumble her reflection of the Koffing's type-and only defense against the poisonous gas it emitted.

"L-Latias?!" he coughed.

Cursing under his limited amount of breath at the loss of their only escape, Locke retrieved another Pokéball from his bag and released his Shaymin as he moved protectively between the legendary and his opponent. The hedgehog immediately moved to cure him of the poison, but he stopped her.

"Wo-Worry Seed!"

Hesitantly, Mini-Mini complied, launching a bombardment of seeds in the direction of the opposing Koffing in the hopes that one would find its target.

the poison gas only grows thicker with each passing moment. visibility lowers, which not even priam expects to get it this bad. a thud from the other side of the curtain was the only clue that tells priam what happened on the other side of the curtain, but nothing else.

he remains oblivious to the barrage of worry seed thrown at them, managing to only notice it when it hits him instead of his pokemon, given that he's a bigger target. he picks up the shell of one, and upon recognizing it, realizes that the person he's facing against was taking an approach he's not expecting.

the coughing only suggested more of it.

"y'er gonna die, dude! clear the mist!" he shouts. "i was expectin' angst, y'know, but this is so lame. where's the energy?!"

as much as themes of death being common in his day-to-day life, assisted suicide was too far from what he was used to. he was supposed to move as soon as possible, but he finds himself staying, too intrigued for the reaction of the other.

he picks up one of the worry seeds that missed him and throws it back.

His snappish reply was interrupted by another hacking of his lungs. The other guy was right, even if it made him consider dying anyway just to spite him. He'd gotten too caught up with Latias' grounding, and ignored the more pressing issue.

They nodded down to Mini-Mini for her to start her Aromatherapy, ignoring the exasperated look she flashed back at them. Flowers bloomed along the Shaymin's back, slowly siphoning away the Poison Gas in the area.

Breathing and thinking both came more easily with the ebbing poison and panic. They could firmly place the accent as Vermilion now-the same they themselves often tried to cover, ever since one prudish teacher told them they sounded like a hooligan.

An original member from Kanto, then? It only meant they couldn't let their guard down, in spite of the stranger's overly friendly attitude.

"'ta get ya off, duh! i ain't here for murder. i'm here for treasure!"

as the gas slowly lifts thanks to the shaymin, he finds himself staring at a friendly face he's met before. the tongue click echoes inside of his helmet, not expecting this development at all.

he knew chances of miss morales and miss reyes appearing on littleroot was low, and even if elite four member silph was around, it would be likely that he's near the primal shard. he didn't account facing off against a friend that seemed timid enough to not consider standing in the frontlines.

his tone changes from banter to reprimanding.

"get off! shoo! scram! go hide in a corner 'till the cage wears off!"

priam walks up, hands in his pocket, as he attempts to look intimidating. with a height towering the other, the only thing that makes the act unbelievable was the rarity of their pokemon.

"you should just stop troublin' us. one more stunt and i'm not pullin' my punches again."

Anger bubbled in Locke's chest even as he stepped back from the approaching Rocket, careful to keep the wound on his back hidden from sight as the other man's tone shifted. Behind him, Latias' feathers puffed out as a low tone left her throat-her own warning to keep a distance.

"Why don'tcha take another look, huh?" they argued, their own accent slipping through under stress. "You're the ones troublin' us. Gonna burn down the town again-like last year?"

The last of the Posion Gas finally dispersed, and the courier's gaze flicked between the Koffing, Mini-Mini's blackened flowers, and the theater's back door.

this was the only thing that gives priam gratification. conditioned to follow orders, there's no ending that can sway his decision away from rocket's main objective. outside of a mission, maybe, but not within.

"guilt trippin' ain't gonna work, buddy. i'll have ya know too that fire wasn't a rocket thing." referencing bryan delarosa's work brought little to temper his emotions. "still, ya don't seem to plan on backin' off..."

priam recalls the koffing and replaces it with his gabite with a quick draw, and alongside it, a fast command.

"sand tomb!"

the gabite appears, swiftly commanding the ground even before it lands from its ball. the earth from below locke shifts quick, forming into a dome around it and his shaymin.

the move is protective instead of harming, unlike the usual variations of it.

The disruptive Koffing was recalled, along with its unending supply of Neutralizing Gas. It was replaced in the same instant by a Gabite, on the offensive before the ability-suppressing fog had even fully dispersed.

Mini-Mini launched her Seed Flare in tandem with the attacking dragon, soaring over the rising earth just before it swallowed herself and her trainer.

What little light had filtered through bryan delarosa's Black Briar vanished in as the sand sealed off above Locke-trapped in a cage within a cage. Unusually, the Sand Tomb did not close in any further than that, but this fact did nothing to ease the spike of panic in their heart.

Desperate, the courier immediately pounded against the sand. The wall shook-not from their fists but from the impact of a Mist Ball as Latias, too, attempted to free them. A few loose grains trickled down from above, but the dome held strong.
