The crisis was over.

99943 METENO was no more. Hoenn had been saved. While the region knew peace again, it would certainly be a fleeting one. Shalin was so close to opening the Halls of Origin. Having unearthed the Meteor Medallion alongside Isaac Merlo and the Ethereal Medallion with a huge help from THEO BECKETT , just the unbeknownst-to-her Thermal Medallion remained. This one, hidden in by far the most inhospitable area of Hoenn, was giving her by far the most trouble. She had yet to even locate the entrance to Death Crater; the heat on the outside of the mountain was so oppressive that it severely limited the length of every expedition. She had combed several sections of the volcanic peak already, having made numerous trips out here.

This time, though, Shalin had a new weapon at her disposal. All of her water-type Pokémon she had used until now were strictly aquatic. Rielle, the giant Vaporeon she was astride, ensured a steady layer of cool water flowed all over her body to keep her rider from overheating. Waterproofing Rielle's gear was something she had to pay extra for, but it had to be done with aquatic Pokémon. Though she wasn't going to be able to go flying over the crater easily, like she had with her Flygon, this was going to let her expedition last much longer, and it would be far safer.

Having scoured much of the north and east sections of the crater with no luck, she would resume her search for the elusive entrance to the crater cavern. Now where was Ashley Shepard ? She could have sworn she gave him the correct time of day...

Eh... he was out of the hospital. He just couldn't use his arm, was all. Walking with a sling, the black-haired Rocket came out of courtesy to Mt. Chimney, where a friend had been. A pre-Rocket friend. Shalin was likely waiting for him, and he didn't have to heart to just hurt the girl.

There was some key differences. Aside from the broken arm in a sling, his hair is black too. He looks different, and despite this, he is here with just one Pokemon with him. His Glaceon, Maple.

When he sees Shalin finally who loos to be scouring the area, he holds a hand up. "Hey. Been awhile."

He looks like shit, but at least she's not going to focus on it too much. He's dressed for the occasion of the heat, pulling out some of his summer gear to not overheat. That's what Maple is for too. "Doing well?"

Shalin blinked several times when she saw someone approaching her. It wasn't until he was within spitting distance that she recognized Ashley. "Sawyer!" she greeted him. "I almost didn't recognize you! Did you dye your hair or something?" she asked, immediately noticing the color change, then the sling. "What happened to you?!" she exclaimed, deeply worried her friend would be so willing to come out to such a dangerous part of Hoenn with such a serious injury.

At the very least, Ashley was prepared, his Glaceon keeping him cool. While it wasn't quite as efficient, the flowing layer of water fueled by her mount's HYDRATION kept both Rielle and Shalin from burning up. While it was still relatively cool, she dismounted long enough to retrieve her seven Medallions of Eight to show what she had been up to. "Remember this?" she flashed the Chrome Medallion toward Ashley. "Well, I have seven of them now." She crouched down to lay the seven of them in a nearly complete circle, in the order the pedestals inside the Halls of Origin were arranged.

"There's just one left, and it's somewhere on this mountain. It's just a mater of finding where it's at. Unfortunately, it's proving to be an incredible challenge," Shalin sighed, citing the crater's heat as the primary reason for the difficulties she was having. "I've been trying to locate it for weeks, with no luck at all. It's just so hot down there. You should be okay as long as you're with your Glaceon. The moment just one of us starts to feel it, though, we both turn back." Once Ashley had a good luck at them all if she wanted, Shalin would stow them, hop back on Rielle, and lead the way toward the far side of the crater, where their search would take them.

That's where the lie begins. Shalin asks him, greets him, and he's forced to explain what happened. Rubbing his neck with his free hand, he says it plainly. "Oh, rough day recently. Don't worry about it." It's not that he isn't giving the truth, but he's giving a half-truth at best. "Yeah. I do it on the occasion. I like it black, but it'll grow back."

No way he was saying he was in Rocket now.

Still, Shalin seemed to have excitement, and as she shows medallions, he chuckles. "Oh yeah, like I could forget." They almost died getting one of those. But... it was nice knowing her ambitions were almost reaching a goal. He gives the medallions a good look, but tells Shalin plainly.

"Arm might make it hard to go help you on that, but decided that I should at least get out of the apartment. Got a boyfriend now too. How time flies, am I right?" He laughs quietly, as Maple changes the pressure and moisture in the air to be a little cooler. Made it easier considering what he was wearing.

"We'll at least find the entrance if we can. In the meantime, might be nice to find some Pokemon here."

It seemed like Ashley had just dyed his hair. Shalin did, too; her natural hair color was definitely not green. That was how she liked it, and there was nothing wrong with artificially changing one's hair color! Though her friend would not be able to tell due to the Timelord winding the clock back in Littleroot, Shalin had been through a hell of her own. She very nearly lost Kiara's life, among several other of her Pokémon, the day she fought to defend the Primal Point at Littleroot. Even as a sniper, she was not out of danger, what with so many terrifying Pokémon being flung at one another.

Shalin stowed her set of seven medallions before beginning the journey toward the far side of the volcanic crater. The sound of bubbling magma tickled her nerves, despite her many trips through the Fiery Path to their south. "Sounds like we have a lot of catching up to do!" she replied, Rielle slowing down a little to take care around a narrow pass. "You should let me take the lead, then. With your arm in that kind of shape..." She didn't want to finish that sentence.

The sound of a Typhlosion's fur exploding made Shalin flinch, a magmatic ERUPTION splashing molten rock near the two explorers and their Pokémon. Rielle's aquatic, HYDRATION-powered shield protected her rider from being singed by molten rock, but not from the resulting steam! The potent fire-type attack evaporated and temporarily disabled the veil of water that kept the girl safe and cool. The fog they created was so dense that she could hardly see. Just barely able to estimate the Typhlosion's position, she threw one of her precious Quick Balls at it. If her catch succeeded, great! If not, it would be the perfect distraction to flee.

Catching up... yeah. Ashley can't help but feel like a traitor. It occurs to him that he will never be comfortable around anyone. He'll always be labeled by the League as a Rocket if he shows himself, and now Rocket will always consider him as a turncoat who'd leave. There's no victory. Only the fact that he just feels at odds constantly.

It was nice knowing Shalin would take the lead. It gave Ashley a minute to just kind of nod, and follow. He'd be able to just relax. A nice moment where they could move on thier way.

Maple would do his best to help the heat of the cave, but the heat complicates this; its just enough to cool off, little else. "Yeesh. Yeah, it's toasty in here alright." Maple did his best, but this is the best he can do. He'd run out of energy before long.

When Shalin goes to catch that big honey badger bear, Ashley leans against a wall. Some kind of... he doesn't know what it is, moves around, walking about the place. Ashley and Maple leave it well alone. No way in hell he's messing with that peppery thing.

"You know, I'm feeling milkshakes after this."

Rielle turned back toward the caught Typhlosion, Shalin able to hear the Vaporeon's breathing as she leaned down to retrieve the catch. "You holding up okay, Sawyer?" the explorer asked, apparent that his Glaceon was also having trouble keeping them tool. She had been to Mount Chimney several times in search of the entrance to the labyrinth containing the missing Medallion of Eight needed for passage into the Halls of Origin beneath Sootopolis. She didn't remember Mount Chimney being this hot, though. Even with Rielle keeping her cool, it was still uncomfortably warm.

"We have to be close," Shalin remarked as the two blue-hued Eeveelutions descended, the ambiance of bubbling magma growing louder the lower they traveled into the crater. She could hear the noise of a magmafall in the direction of a giant basalt dome that was previously hidden from view. Around the corner, a glimpse of a bright, white light caught her eye. It was a wild Charmeleon bathing in the crater, the light of evolution being suppressed by an EVERSTONE it carried!

"I'm not turning this opportunity down, Sawyer," Shalin announced to her friend her intent of making a catch. She switched rides to Letheia, her Alolan Ninetales, to allow Rielle to fight. "Now, Rielle, trap it with your WATER PULSE for me, okay? And try to be sneaky about it!"

The steam cloud from the heat clashing with her HYDRATION was enough to tip the Charmeleon off to Rielle's presence, but not quickly enough! Her WATER PULSE not only doused the fire-type, but hardened the magma around it into a hunk of solid rock, ensnaring the Pokémon within! Desperate to escape, the red lizard's tail glowed with a blue flame, building a heat dome that engulfed Shalin, Rielle, and Letheia. To Ashley, it might have looked like they were wavering back and forth in a desert mirage.

With a loud bellow from the fire-type, the dome exploded in a blistering INFERNO, piercing right through Rielle's HYDRATION and leaving all three of them with nasty BURNS that needed to be treated as soon as possible. With the Charmeleon snared, Shalin desperately hoped the empty Poké Ball she hurled at it would contain it. Not only would a Charizard be a perfect way to explore the crater, but if it escaped the Poké Ball, a second INFERNO could spell bad news for both of her badly hurt Pokémon!

The question itself is difficult to answer. On the one hand, Ashley is holding up decently enough, but his decisions since their little descent into those ruins leaves a bad, poisonous taste in his mouth. It's not that he doesn't want to answer, it's that no answer he comes up with sounds good in his head.

"Yeah. I'm good." Maple gives a mew nearby, but Ashley merely smiles when it seemed Shalin was pressing forward. Same old same old. That was good to see at least.

With a bathing Charmeleon in a crater, Ashley put two and two together. Old days in Kanto when he was a kid, he remembered seeing Charizards aplenty. He got the memo, and merely let her handle business. It was nice being able to just relax, not fight or do anything. There is a Trapinch eating rocks nearby, but...

Best let sleeping dogs lie. The way it unhinged its jaw was... unnerving.

The battle seemed intense, so much so that Ashley was almost afraid for a moment that Shalin's Pokeball wouldn't contain it, that inferno looking so painful that he'd need to get a Burn Heal to both Letheia and Rielle. Luckily, he stocked up before he left home, and would cautiously approach with Maple.

"Come here." He holds the little green spray bottle. "Let's get them patched up."

The INFERNO was not only painful for Letheia and Rielle, rippling through the Vaporeon as though her fire resistance were nonexistent, but also Shalin, both of her elbows seared from the brutal Fire-type attack. Without her BLUE VEST protecting her, she would have been grievously injured, and the duo would have to end yet another trip to Mount Chimney short. It was a good thing Ashley Shepard had found a cave that was far away enough from the crater to not be boiling hot. The phials of BURN HEAL would have exploded in his hands, otherwise!

"Good eye," Shalin sighed, her eyes growing heavy, both from the reduced light level in their natural shelter and the substantially decreased temperatures. She looked like she could fall asleep at any moment. "Your name shall be Corona," the explorer decided what she would call her new Charizard. She stored Kiara's now-locked Poké Ball inside her supply pack, sending out Corona and helping dislodge the EVERSTONE fragment from his left claw. Minutes later, she fell asleep, on the brink of heat exhaustion.

Only the brilliant light of EVOLUTION aroused the sweating girl some time later. A groggy Shalin opened her eyes to a Charizard curled up on one side of her. A warm smile grew on her face, her eyes only staying open for a few moments before closing them again. It looked like all the Charmeleon wanted to do was evolve, but could not without human help!

ooc: Passing. Corona the Charmeleon is evolving into a Charizard next post, pending a shop purchase. Kiara is returning to the PC.

It was probably true, those Burn Heals he had would have probably made things a little difficult, but at least he was able to not only bring just in case. Preparation was everything. If he had a flier, he'd probably feel a lot better about joining Shalin's future expeditions, but... this would be enough for now.

While Shalin slumbers, Ashley proceeds to apply whatever Burn Heal spray he can on Rielle and Letheia, it being being hot enough in hear to require Ashley to wipe his brow. "Maple. Right next to her. Do your thing." The Glaceon quitely moves closer, and begins to hum, allowing the SNOW CLOAK around his form to help cool the sweating girl, as he takes one arm at a time, to apply the spray onto her elbows as well.

At least she would wake up with just some light wounds. Best to apply the burn heal now, after all it would help for later. It'd be a nasty case of sunburn later.

He shudders. Sunburn. He's glad he was over that from Farhan's Solar Beam up on Mt. Pyre.

"Sheesh, Shalin. You gonna sleep here? Might be a good idea to hop out of this place before you sleep, don'tcha think?" He can't help but smile. Shalin is an old friend. Even if their views are opposed. He just hopes... he never has to show that to her. Ever.
