Eva steadies the Delbird ornament as it bounces up and down on one of the lower branches. It reminds her of a kitten‘s toy and makes a mental note to herself to not let any of the kittens in the menagerie of pokemon loose in the living room any time soon. They’d wreak havoc on their carefully crafted tree!

“Most of the things you want?” she turns to give him a quizzical look, “So that means there’s something,” she plucks out another ornament to hang on the tree. Once she’s done she turns back to him, eyes growing wide like a Lilipup’s, “C’mon, tell me pleeease I need ideas,” she admits, “If you tell me I’ll tell you.”

"well, there's only one thing i want, really, and i've been wanting it for a while now. ever since i saw you again in lilycove, actually."[break][break]

if it wasn't obvious before then it should be now.[break][break]

taking her hand in his, he lowers to a knee, graced by a swirl of MAGICAL LEAVES that flows into their space. with his free hand, he reaches into his pocket and pulls out a small box.[break][break]

"you're my best friend, eva. you've made life so fulfilling and i wake up every day grateful to have found my way back to you."[break][break]

"...will you marry me?"

Her Lilipup eyes were working! But that cute wide-eyed look is quickly replaced with one of curiosity. Since Lilycove? That was ages ago . . .

And she doesn’t quite have more time to think about it before he is down on one knee with her hand in his. Eva’s eyes widen for a different reason this time: shock. Her other hand moves to cover her gasp when it all clicks into place in her mind. She barely notices the MAGICAL LEAVES that add to the moment because she is just entirely fixated on him and the way he reaches into his pocket to pluck out a tiny box.

“Ohhhh wow,” she whispers past the lump building in her throat. This better not be a joke, she’d kill him. It’s something they’ve talked about before so she should not be surprised, but she whole heartedly is.

It couldn’t be more perfect.

The way her smile lights up her face is an answer within itself. She falls forward to drape her arms around his neck and take his lips with hers for as long, passionate kiss; all the while nodding her head yes.

even though there was never a doubt in his mind, the yes still feels elating. his happiness is almost palpable as he returns the kiss, cherishing every moment of it that when they eventually pull away, he finds himself needing more. so he kisses her again, and again, until finally stopping if only to peer down at the ring.[break][break]

it's a simple ring, modest and beautiful. lowkey yet elegant. he plucks it out of the box, taking her hand once more to slide it onto her ring finger.

She welcomes his kisses again, and again, smiling and laughing and swallowing back tears of joy. She perches herself on his knee, and keeps her right arm wrapped around his neck, content to never let go. She’s on cloud nine, flying higher than Rayquaza even could.

“Ohhhh wow,” she repeats, quieter this time as she glances down at the ring. Her smile widens as he slides it onto her ring finger. It fits perfectly. How curious. She admires it by wiggling her fingers. It feels a bit surreal, being engaged.

“It’s beautiful,” she murmurs, her gaze shifting back to him with a grin on her face, ”Sneaky, sneaky. You caught me off guard,” she admits, glancing back down at her left hand.

they also had talked about getting should they survive the meteor. with rayquaza intervening and helping to ensure their survival, it almost feels natural to propose. encouraged, even.[break][break]

"i guess we have a wedding to plan now."

Eva smiles and wiggles her fingers again, watching the colorful lights of the tree behind them dance off the sharp cuts of the elegant stone. The new piece of jewelry feels strange, but right.

“Hmmm, right,” she hums, briefly remembering the conversation prior to the meteor. She had forgotten about that.

A small laugh rings out from her lips, “Guess we’ll just add that to our loooong list of things to do,” she grins back up at him, leaning in for another quick kiss, “This still doesn’t get you out of telling me what you want for Christmas.”

Eva patiently waits as Matias collects his thought. She just basks in their little bubble of happiness that he created just now. Her thoughts wander to how grateful she is that things turned out as they did. The smallest change in plans could have led to a very different future. When they first reconnected, she was quite hesitant to pursue anything with him. It broke her heart when she had to leave him in Kanto, and she couldn’t bear the thought or having to leave him again. Now, she never would.

“Oooo,” she hums in thought, considering the thought of a vacation. They have been talking about that for probably a year now, “Alright. Our gift to each other: Taking a break and taking time for just us,” that sounds very nice.

“I don’t think we ever decided where we should go . . . someplace warm maybe,” her gaze quickly darts over to the window and the snow outside.

the sight of it still feels odd, not quite unnatural but perhaps something that shouldn't be happening. briefly, he wonders if DESOLATE LAND could override it. temporarily, maybe.[break][break]

"how about alola? i hear their beaches are really nice."[break][break]

barely visible, his urshifu can be seen figure skating across the frozen lake.

Eva follows his gesture out to the snow. A small frown follows at the unnatural sight of it. She would have agreed with him prior to taking her little excursion to Kyurem’s frozen tundra. Now, the cold and snow just gives her anxiety.

Someplace warm and the complete opposite sounded nice, “I’ve always wanted to go to Alola,” she muses out loud, “Can we visit every island?” she asks with a hint of excitement in the tone of her voice. They’re all so different, it would be a waste not to take advantage of already being over there.
