Honestly, had CIAN MAHER not been the coverboy for the city, Penelope would've been a little less keen on spending so much time there. It wasn't like there was anything wrong with the city-- it had all the basics, like anywhere else. But something about it's architecture always brought her mood down.

[attr="class","illeana i"]rustboro always brings with it memories she would rather not breathe life into again. they're too stained with death, regret, loss.

truthfully, she tries her best to avoid the city but...

this is a purposeful trip. this is a bonding moment and she'll be damned if she lets her own ghosts get in the way.

her head turns to steal a glance at PENELOPE LIVY, eyes attentive as a question rises. her shiny garchomp snorts but otherwise lets the women talk in relative peace. it's too busy, perhaps, watching the bushes for signs of life.

"hopefully. i'd like to see some dragons in particular..."

she's placed too much of a focus on her beloved ghost types, after all. it'd be nice to add some more friends to the dragon tales.

the path before them opens, then, into rock scattered dirt and she places a slight carefulness to her step. her garchomp is not as cautious, however. the dragon stomps in front of her and crushes stray rocks beneath its feet. a primarina notices the approaching garchomp and scurries away to hide as they pass.

"they're powerful yet elegant. i'm almost envious of it, truthfully."

Unlike Illeana, Penelope displayed no caution with her steps through the rock and dirt. She wasn't the elegant type -- not like the head scientist was, at least -- and so, she found no point in pretending otherwise. Small spits of dirt flew with every kick of dirt she made, exemplifying that fact.

"unfortunately, i'm sure there's a few that have tried to replicate them."

somehow, she suspects her father might have been one of them.

a dracozolt stumbles awkwardly across their path. she flashes it a small smile and continues on.

"it's a shame they're hard to come by, though. everyone should experience at least one or two dragons."

Illeana's darkened expression didn't go unnoticed.

Eyebrow quirking upward, she offered the scientist a quick glance before returning her attention to the road in front of them. One wrong misstep could cost the more than she was willing to give up.

"It's not much of a shame," she shrugged. "They're there for those that look for them."

Like a treasure locked behind an adventure. Just put in the slightest bit of effort and you'll be rewarded.

A flash of red blurred their vision as her Ampharos came jumping out from its ball. Immediately, he sent out a thunderbolt toward the Kommo-o. After, Penelope would finish the job with a simple toss.

in the background, her garchomp manages to find a shuckle. the dragon pounces on the funky looking turtle and snags it in its jaws. the scientist tosses a pokeball quickly to save the shuckle from further torment at the teeth of her garchomp.

"perhaps it keeps them safe to be more elusive?"

poachers are still existing in small numbers here and there. and unfortunately, nothing is more valuable than a dragon and its scales.

[attr="class","illeana i"]the garchomp at her side struts forward with a purpose: knocking down all obstacles in its path. an aurorus is its next victim for the sole punishment of getting in its way. the pretty dinosaur lets out a groan as her garchomp tackles it down into the ground. and when it's pinned to prevent escape, she tosses a pokeball at it.

"not much, i'm afraid."

a small, awkward smile rises.

"the meteor's aftermath gave us too much to clean up to really focus on anything else."

she's grateful, however, in a small sort of way. busy work keeps her occupied, distracted, contained.
