a month ago, she would have said yes. and now, with rifts ripping the dimensional structure of hoenn into ribbons, it's more truth than a masking falsehood.

"is it? i'm surprised... usually i have to double down on my reasons."

she lets out a tinkering laugh, easily swallowed up by his barked chuckle.

"not unless you're willing to lend a hand."

even then, she's not so certain she'd succeed. the concept of successful contact has continued to elude her long before this conversation. she doesn't quite believe it'll ever be within her grasp.

"i think the first problem requires your help, though. sea hoenn has to be dealt with sooner rather than later."

later means gathering strength. and while it'd be nice to buy hoenn time to prepare, time is a luxury they might not even have.

perhaps out of necessity more than anything. for the sake of the region.[break][break]

"i'll give you a call when i'll need you, then."

a stark contrast to her never speaking to him again, perhaps, but this time there's a purpose behind contact. before, it had been nothing more than chasing a long dead feeling.

"i worry they have something horrible up their sleeves now after the meteor."

and if they do, how would they even know? the incessant itch to know more returns with a vengeance. besides, if the rift beneath rustboro has changed since the other rifts have ripped hoenn open, what has it become?

the mention of red shards distracts her from what ifs and she's almost grateful for the redirection.

"do you have any leads on where they might be yet?"

it only dawns on him then that the rift under rustboro may very well not be the only one anymore. with all these other ones opened up, the likelihood of them surviving an invasion from sea hoenn has lowered, but he'll make sure they survive.[break][break]

"i'm not sure if you remember but it was your golurk that finally shattered the RED ORB."[break][break]

its z-move specifically.[break][break]

"the shards are in the universe i retrieved groudon from."[break][break]

finally, he reaches the question he's been wanting to ask.[break][break]

"does the league still have primal crystals?"

she forgot about that. it felt so small compared to the rampaging groudon and the odd merging of dimensions. here and now, however, she plucks the memory out of the brain and replays it for a moment.

"i believe so, yes."

she frowns, however, at the thought. and it looks shocking, perhaps, for her to question the primal crystals.

"i'm not sure if they're the best options to use, though. the ones from the meteor plan are specifically calibrated to sea hoenn's dimensional frequency."

whether that's due to the primal points themselves or the primal crystals, she leaves up to him.

the shape and make of the primal crystals will be a small oversight, he's sure.[break][break]

his phone buzzes in his pocket, alerting him of the time.[break][break]

"shit. i gotta run. but before i do..."[break][break]

he actually has to get home because he has a movie date with Eva Morales. he's not sure what christmas movie she's going to pick but he hopes it's die hard.[break][break]

"how are you planning on finding palkia?"

[attr="class","illeana i"]she hums understanding. and after a moment, her body shifts to turn its back on the water. it feels like a grave mistake but sea hoenn is not here yet.

her doppelganger is not here.

matias asks one last question of her. it brings a look of confusion, then, before curiosity overwrites the expression.

"maybe distortions or one of the rifts? i'm not quite sure yet."

her eyes narrow slightly, more in scrutiny of herself than him.

"honestly, though? i don't think i'll find it."

she pauses, lingering in the faint drama of it all.

"perhaps palkia will find us instead."

that seems the most convenient of the options and surprisingly the most logical one as well. he imagines legendary pokemon do not want to be found in general. even so, he knows that won't stop people from trying.[break][break]

he clicks his tongue, correcting himself.[break][break]

"actually, you should be focusing on all of them."

"focusing on all might have the same effect as focusing on one."

a little sight escapes at the concept.

"they are great assets to the league but as i'm sure you're aware... legendary pokemon are not something we can force to come to us."

heaven knows she's fucking tried.

a pokeball cracks open, calling out his charizard. he wastes little time and mounts the dragon, ready to fly home.[break][break]
