[attr="class","illeana i"]she arrives a little behind schedule, rosy cheeked and bundled up. somehow, even with many layers, the cold still finds a way to bleed into the bones.

she shivers and pulls her fluffy coat closer to the body.

there's an eerie sensation to this new, uncharted part of hoenn. quiet, untouched, foreboding. even the wind makes no sound, not even a whistle.

her golurk rumbles out an alert: someone up ahead. she squints as another gust blows powdered snow across her line of sight. when it retreats, she sees sunkissed hair sticking out against the pale landscape. and briefly, like an afterthought, she subconsciously guides her own back into place once the wind subsides. it blends in against the snow, light and cold.

"hey, sorry i'm late!"

it's habit, perhaps.

"i'm illeana reyes, head scientist for the league. have you been waiting long?"

faintly, she hopes not... it's too cold here to be kept idle for long. she imagines the body would shut down all functions to preserve warmth before finally succumbing to sleep and then, hypothermia. she shivers at the thought and pushes it down with a small smile.

ELAINA PIERCE

As Elaina stood there in the frigid cold, she saw someone walking in the distance with what appeared to be a Golurk walking with them. As the woman got closer, Elaina believed she was the professor she was guarding. In fact, when she greeted herself, Elaina's assumption was correct. "No worries," Elaina said, attempting a smile despite the biting cold temperature seeming to get worse by the minute. Despite the practically frigid weather, whatever Illeana needed to do must have been important to some degree. Why else would they have hired a ranger as a guard for this place? It was uninhabitable as far as she could tell. What's more, was that Elaina found it hard to believe that these frigid icelands were a part of the Hoenn region. "My name's Elaina Pierce - Cadet Ranger," She said, making her voice a bit louder than usual as the wind whips around them from every known direction making it harder to hear with its constant whistling

"If you don't mind me asking professor, what is it exactly that you came here to do? This place doesn't seem like a normal area to research. What happened here?" Elaina had said, as the two of them walked together. Elaina would understand if that information were classified, however, a part of her was also curious ... She knew very little about the Hoenn Region and it was apparent that whatever happened to this area of the region wasn't just some mere natural disaster. No, something had to have caused this... not anything good either ...

really, she appreciates it. who knows what lurks in the depths of this place?

she just hopes they're both prepared...

they begin moving further into the icelands landscape. the deeper they get, the more the wind picks up. here, drifting closer into the heart of it all, the wind begins to pick up a loud whistling sound. it's hollow, eerie, unnatural.

"this place not being normal is exactly why we're here."

she grins at the thought.

"it came into existence when the meteor fell toward hoenn. the appearance of a creature called kyurem could point to this place's creation but... i have a feeling it was spatially transported here."

in her pocket, there's a small detection device for frequencies from the league's headquarters. it had previously been used for primal energy detection but perhaps it'll work here to study the dimensional structure of this place.

"the goal is to research what this place's structure is like on a dimensional level. if it's similar to the rifts or something entirely different, i want to know."

ELAINA PIERCE

Elaina smiled, giving her a nod, ignoring the cold but at least a moment. As the two women went further into the icelands, Elaina decided to bring out Ira, her Annihilape. When she saw that even her own Annihilape was affected by the biting cold weather, she realized just how unnatural this weather truly was. Ghost pokemon normally never actually felt natural weather conditions, possibly because they weren't alive. Elaina explained to her about a meteor falling near Hoenn, which apparently caused Kyurem to appear - a name that was actually rarely heard of in the Unova Region's history. It was a Legendary pokemon that was considered to be a dragon as well as an Ice-type - a rare blend of pokemon types. "Kyurem, huh? Well, that definitely explains why this area is so cold, as well as uninhabitable," She said while continuing to walk beside the professor. "Kyurem was rarely mentioned in Unova's history books, so I know a little bit about it..." Elaina had said. She knew that it was a powerful pokemon, but she didn't know how powerful it was until now. "Could it be possible for one pokemon to cause this much devastation?" She thought to herself.

"Ohhh, I get it," Elaina had said, finally understanding (albeit somewhat) what Illeana was trying to do. Elaina admitted that she wasn't a scientist, however, she understood the general basis as to why the professor was here in the first place. "Do you believe that your research could find a way to restore the habitat back to its original state?" She asked Professor Reyes. After all, it could've been a possibility. Sure it would take some doing, but it was possible.

she forgets about the regions outside of hoenn's realm and the way they exist so persistently. are they riddled with disaster, too, or is it just hoenn's curse to bear?

"do you?"

her smile is warm, encouraging. somehow, information is exactly what she'd like.

"anything you can share with me? it could be helpful here."

she knows little to nothing of kyurem at this moment. the old dusty tome of unova's legends has been left untouched for months. perhaps it is finally time to crack it open once more.

a thoughtful hum escapes. she chews on the question until her mouth grows tired of the taste.

"it's possible, but it's hard to say without knowing why this place is here."

was it a rift? kyurem's appearance? something else?

"i'd like to close all of the rifts if i can, at the very least."

she suspects hoenn's dimensional stability depends on it.

ELAINA PIERCE

"Well, what I know is probably what you know currently. The history books back at home have a way of making something informative into what should actually be a folktale," Elaina said, sounding unfortunate. "The only informative part about it was that it was said to be an ice and dragon type with the power to cause an ice age. Then there was something about it pertaining to the other two legendary dragons, Reshiram and Zekrom, however, their connection with one another was pretty vague in my opinion. I couldn't make heads or tails of it," She admitted, disappointed in the fact that she couldn't be helpful in that regard. "But, even if we did have the correct information needed, we would still have plenty of unanswered questions," Elaina said in a perplexed tone, while her hand lay underneath her chin while she thought to herself. All three legendary pokemon were considered to be myths in modern times. As someone who used to be an avid trainer, she had never encountered a single truth behind them. Then again, she never really bothered to even try. In her opinion, searching for answers like that could be extremely dangerous.

When Illeana mentioned rifts, Elaina said, "Wait - Rifts? As in like portals to another dimension?" She couldn't even begin to fathom what had caused such a thing to happen. After a brief moment of thought, Elaina spoke again. "Can we close them now? If so, I want to help," Elaina said, having a determined look on her face. She may have only just become a ranger, but it was considered her sworn duty to protect both people and pokemon alike. If she could learn how to help in regards to closing the rifts with Illeana, then perhaps the place would be somewhat safe, despite the frigid environment. That would have to more than likely be handled at different times. She didn't know how to help exactly in this regard, but Illeana knew a lot more than she did, which was better than nothing.

[attr="class","illeana i"]an ice age... another disaster to add to the list of things hoenn has faced over the years. hadn't the meteor been enough? and before that, the ultra beast war? the littleroot incident? the night market?

she's exhausted just thinking about it.

the mention of zekrom causes a brief look of recognition to rise. it's fleeting but it breeds a question: does Remiel Calcifet know of kyurem?

"well... hopefully we can prevent an ice age from coming to hoenn next."

elaina is right, however. they have more questions than answers. it bothers her to no end.

"perhaps this place will hold some answers for our questions?"

she hopes, anyway.

her head shakes with an unfortunate motion: a no.

"we don't know enough about the rifts to even begin working out a solid plan to close them."

she's going to change that. she knows it, right down to the marrow in her bones.

"i've been recruiting volunteers to study the rifts with me... would you be interested?"

more eyes and minds pushed to the limit for her whims. is it cruel or necessary? the wind whistles sharply with a bitter cold mouth and answers for her.

Elaina had come to realize just how dangerous the Hoenn Region was. Not only that, but it was also the second time that she felt completely helpless, unable to do anything at the moment to help. The first time she felt this way was when her mother died. Now, it pertained to her actual job. She was a ranger, which meant, ensuring the safety of the region's people as well as its pokemon - domesticated or wild. However, such a danger as this ... made Elaina's faith in herself and her capabilities quiver in despair. Elaina pondered for a moment, thinking of just how she would be able to help at this time.

I'm sorry," Elaina choked out slightly, her words faltering slightly. If it weren't for lack of knowledge, then maybe they'd find a solution right away. However, Elaina still knew better, knowing that her inferior intelligence wasn't to be blamed here. However, she still couldn't help but feel that her knowledge of Kyurem wasn't satisfactory in helping the professor. The people and the pokemon who suffered here when the Icy dragon's glaciate froze them, encasing them in ice eternal, only making Elaina feel all the more helpless. They were right there - right there!. Yet, she could do nothing but look on ...

However, Elaina was still going to make sure that Illeana would be kept from harm. That was something that she could do, at least. She wondered though why this was never mentioned to her when she first started her job. Were they afraid of the newbie rangers resigning after knowing the truth? Whatever the case was, That didn't necessarily sit well with her. Not because they withheld information like this, but rather because no one had been out front with it, to begin with.

they'll figure something out. they always do.

her hand extends with a gesture to continue, to persist in the face of uncertainty. it's small growth, she thinks. in some minute way, she's changing.

"come, let's collect what we can and get out of here."

the cold is starting to reach sub zero levels. before long, it'll be unbearable...

she works with a quickness. her eyes stray every now and then toward the ranger at her side. there's a subtle concern laced into her. it does little more than exist for now, however. she places her work above all else, even those around her.

and maybe she isn't changing as much as she thinks in that regard.

the thought keeps her quiet as they begin to take their leave.
