Melody grins as she was going to have another battle with new types of Pokémon from Paldea! [break][break]

She was thinking of using her Meowscarda that Mars saw in action when they were trying to catch pokemon but decided against it as he'd be able to already guess what it could do. Instead, she decides to whip out a new one she had caught since then. A gargancle. [break][break]

"I hope you're ready mars!" she smiles as she was excited to get started right away as soon as mars sends out his pokemon.

Despite Mars’ relative knowledge about Paldean pokémon (read: he knows the species he used to see around when visiting the region), training them is a whole different matter altogether, and when it comes to learning about the battle capabilities and obedience of a new partner, mock battles are always good practice.

In this case, it’s an exhibition match following all of the League’s careful guidelines and regulations, and that works just fine for the banker. He greets his opponent with a smile, ever glad to see Melody Miro even under such circumstances.

The pun master himself sent out an equally funny looking pokemon, wait, HE EVOLVED THE GIMMIEGHOUL SHE GAVE HIM?! "What the heck! How did that cute little guy I gave you-" she says as suddenly a screech metal sound rung out throughout the field. Gargancle covered it's ears as it's defenses dropped. "Salt cure!" she orders, he was a spirit so maybe it would be effective against it? She questions? [break][break]

She continues her thought from before "How did it become that!?"

”Me? Pun-ish you like that? I would never.” Okay, maybe he’s taking all these pun jokes a little too far. Doubtlessly, if BARNABY FINCH were here, he’d roll his eyes at him. Thankfully, the beginning of the battle also means that Mars’ attention turns to the pokémon.

”Try to avoid it.” The command is given verbally this time, and making use of some of its coins to create a golden board, the Gholdengo glides over the arena in an attempt to escape from the Garganacl’s SALT CURE. Some salt still manages to get on it, though, meaning that Mars has to do a quick change of strategies.

”They evolve when they gather enough coins.” He tells Melody. ”Like this… MAKE IT RAIN.”
[break][break]
One last pun is used to call for an attack, and it's a mass of coins that shoots out towards the rock type — like a golden tidal wave that the Gholdengo surfs over.

”Don’t worry, the Gimmighoul you gave me hasn’t evolved. I still haven’t picked a name for it...Hmm... How about Plata?”

Jesus christ these were DAD level jokes "MARTIN!!" she shouts at him in defiance, refusing to laugh at his jokes or else they'd just continue. [break][break]

That momentary lapse in her focus was enough for them to get a potshot in, the Gholdengo uses MAKE IT RAIN on Gargancle [break][break]

It cries out as coin after coin pounds down upon gargancle. Half way through the attack, Gargancle manages to throw up a PROTECT barrier. "Try ruin it's path! Earthquake!" she orders as she tried to obstruct the arena and make it difficult for Gholdengo to skate around on. [break][break]

The ground shakes violent as abrupt pillars and cliffs form from Gargancle destroying sections of the arena.

While Melody rightfully scolds him for his terrible, awful, and downright disgusting puns, Mars chuckles to himself, giving the Elite Four a wink before returning his attention to the pokémon between.

In the time between the PROTECT and the Garganacl’s retaliation, Oro (as is the name of his Gholdengo) is smart enough to skate away from the other pokémon, retreating to the periphery of the arena. It helps, but it sure as hell doesn’t mean it can avoid the EARTHQUAKE. Thankfully, Gholdengo can always RECOVER.

Mars whistles one short and sharp note, and just like that, damage is undone.

The Gholdengo snickers, as if it were PLOTTING something.

She watches as suddenly it starts to gather up it's coins to restore it's body. "Woah! what the hell!" [break][break]

She panics as she didn't really plan for it, in fact she had no idea what it could do. Hopefully the salt cure would continue to whittle away at it. "Avalanche!" she says as suddenly it raises it's hand and begins to cause icicles to form on the roof. [break][break]

Icicles begin to crash down and drop onto the gholdengo, Melody unaware of the dual steel typing of Gholdengo that would provide a natural resistance to the ice type attack. Melody had to try and figure out how the heck to beat this thing...she had no idea what it could do so this was gonna be tough "Run up on him!"

It takes a lot for Mars to resist the urge to make a pun when Melody calls for an AVALANCHE. Thankfully, the prospect of well… you know… a goddamn avalanche sure is helpful when it comes to distracting him from making jokes.

A decision is made quickly.

He whistles one short and sharp note, and in response, the Gholdengo makes a turn and surfs towards the Garganacl. Coins are summoned once more, MAKING IT RAIN onto the rock type. The NASTY PLOT had done its job, making it up for the decrease in special attack previously caused.

Mars himself takes one step back, making sure not to be in range of the avalanche.

”You know, that’s not what I’d call a winter wonderland.”

He says when the snow comes plummeting down onto the arena and hits the pokémon.

The Garngacle grimaces at the attack again and before Melody can even give it an order it decides to take matters into it's own hands and rush towards the gholdengo as he saw red. "Wait! What the heck! Gargancle!" she shouts at it but it was still a new Pokémon of her's she didn't earn it's respect yet.[break][break]

It charges forward, coating itself in salt cure to try and grab onto the goldhengo to bear hug it until it submitted and fainted "Go go go go!" she orders as they had to take swift action all of a sudden and just go with it. however it was WIDE open for Gholdengo to score an easy knock out
