The Gym Leader wishes he could have been there... right in the thick of the race as rest of the dragons in the race, all glowing purple, hurtled toward the finish line. He could tell all four of them, even Jackie and Alphamax, were giving this last push everything they had. Resting his arm around his Salamence, Josh could still feel the dragon's pounding heart. "Don't sweat it, bud," he consoled the winged Pokémon. "It happens. It's part of racing."
While Lyndon and Resheph were in a commanding lead going into the final stretch, the other three spots in the race were quite contested. He wanted to award Ghost the Quick Badge. After clawing back so far on the second lap, he deserved it. He simply crossed his fingers for the young man and his Salamence. There wasn't too much to the end of the course; it was simply about drawing every bit of speed there was from one's partner. There would be plenty of time for the teams to catch their breath after the race.
Shawn, with no fear at all, dug his heels into Kokusho's sides. With a roar even Josh could feel, the Hydreigon hurtled forward, DRAGON DANCING alongside Ghost and Roxie in a battle of speed that left even the Gym Leader impressed. All eyes were on those two rather than the EXTREME SPEEDING Dragonair that left even the weakened Lyndon holding on for dear life. He had underestimated just how much power a dragon carrying him could put on his body. How did Josh withstand such force?
With one final thrust, the dark-type went snout-to-snout against the challenger and his Salamence, and there was no telling who would cross the finish line first. As Roxie began to pull away, Shawn had realized he had made a grave miscalculation; he had started the Dragon Dance too early. Its purple dragon energy faded out before Roxie's did. The race's results were clear; Ghost was the runner-up, with Shawn behind, and Jackie behind him.

Grandprix Ending - F-ZERO X ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK After the racers had time to catch their breath, Josh included, he approached Ghost and his Salamence to congratulate them on a strong performance. "I know you're disappointed you didn't win the race, but Resheph's a tough one. She's my dragon of choice for races, and Lyndon did a remarkable job piloting her." The Gym Trainer's smile grew with the praise Josh gave him. "All you had to do to win the challenge, though, was to beat me. And you handily beat me, even after being so far behind early. That kind of tenacity will see you far in the Pokémon League."
Reaching into his pocket, he drew one of his Gym's Badges into a closed fist before presenting it toward Ghost. Opening it, the mark of prowess was plainly visible to them both. "Take it. It is the official Hoenn League Quick Badge. You and your Salamence shall be enshrined in the Gym's list of Qualified Riders as champions." He paused to let his friend claim his Badge and let the title sink in. Stumbling to his feet, he guided Ghost to the Gym's back door to check out. "...Ghost, we really should spend some quality time together soon. Shouldn't we?" ghost fireheart
