"I wish I could be braver honestly..." She murmurs, taking a deep breath as she dips her brush into the ink. "If I were a lot braver, maybe I'd be able to make a decision instead of sitting here and pretending things will be fine."[break][break]

Pulling up her brush, she places it to the paper and begins to draw. Soft swirls, sharp turns, repeated over and over as she traces a pattern she's known for so long: A beautiful dragon that dances around a lavender.[break][break]

"Eris," he said, voice hushed in case anyone overheard her true identity. His voice was like a perfectly-prepared pillow; soft and comforting, but gentle and supportive. "Nobody should ever have to be in the mess you're in. Especially not a kid. But instead of falling apart, you just keep trying your heart out, even when it hurts like nothing else. How the heck is that not brave?"[break][break]

"Maybe the world wants you to rush. But that's just gonna hurt more. You need time, patience. Maybe someone to talk to that really knows their stuff." Like telling a dog about the v-e-t, Isaac elected not to say the t word. "I know you'll find your light at the end of the tunnel. But it's not your fault for needing a gentle hand. It's their fault for strong-arming you and being confused when you tell them it hurts."[break][break]

He looked up to the sky so Eris couldn't see the pain in his eyes. " 'Sides, I'm twice your age and in the same boat. Arceus knows I don't have an excuse. So at least you can take heart knowing you're braver than me, okay?"[break][break]

He knew exactly what he was going to wish for now. His art skills were far less practiced than Eris', but he still managed to make what looked like either flowers or stars out of simple, curving brushstrokes. Soon, his lantern looked good enough to send skyward, though it was far from a masterpiece.[break][break]

"Release 'em on three, same time. And don't say what you wished for, alright? Otherwise, it-" Ugh. Hadn't Eris been silenced enough? And was Isaac really going to let something as silly as fate get in the way of her being heard?[break][break]

". . . If life won't make it come true for you, then I will. Okay?"

[attr="class","inner-finally"]As much as she would love to believe in Isaac Merlo's words, she knows what she has done and she knows better than anyone that she has fallen apart in the worst of ways. The only reason she still tries to cling onto her sanity is because she doesn't have the ability to simply lock her heart away.[break][break]

And when she sees the way he doesn't meet her gaze, she feels bad even mentioning anything that would go against how much faith he had in her.[break][break]

"Mmm, it's like wishing on stars."[break][break]

Her brush goes for a little longer, specks of ink dotting the base of her palm as she scribbles down a few things on her mind. Better health for Chu-e Choi, a bountiful growth in her new garden, an abundance of adventures and safety for everyone that she loved like family.[break][break]

And on the bottom, a small line praying for peace and understanding between the two families she'd found. It was something that probably wouldn't happen without the greatest of miracles, but she lets that piece of reality sit at the back of her mind.[break][break]

"That's a rather bold thing to say." Instead, she'll focus on the things that Isaac dares to utter, raising a brow as she holds her lantern out to Reiner. "What if I said I wanted to see the Tooth Dragon?"[break][break]

The Luxray snorts as he presses a pawful of ink into the space left for him.[break][break]

"C'mon wishing star..." Her smile is cheeky, the candle of her lantern lit up with a careful spark from Reiner. "Count us down, alright?"

Wishes were never something he expected to come true. But with Eris putting even a shred of her often-hidden hopes in him, how could he not let himself believe? "But, hey. Even I gotta take a chance when I can, right?"[break][break]

He wished for the Hoenn region to survive the coming year, and for him to find his place among it all. He wished that, even in the midst of this war, his loved ones were able to find purpose and peace. He wished for the fallen, his beloved Kiryu among them, to find rest after the deaths they did not deserve.[break][break]

He stole a glance at the girl he was coming to love like a sister, and in one final brushstroke wished for her to be free.[break][break]

"Then pack your bags, kid, 'cause we're gonna find the tooth dragon," he said, a big grin on his face. Maybe he'd ask Andrea Vaneau to do him a solid, offer to help her out on the ranch for a bit as a trade. As if she needed a reason to dress up as a dragon. Huh, maybe she and Eris should meet. Both of them just seemed to want peace in the region. They'd have a lot to talk about.[break][break]

"Three . . ." He looked to the skies, the stars above a perfect mirror to the lanterns flickering along the ground below.[break][break]

"Two . . . " He thought about the prizes they had yet to win, the snacks they had yet to sample, the fireworks they had yet to watch. Even in a single night, they had so much to live for. There were so many nights left, even if not all were quite so busy. How could he possibly give up?[break][break]

"One . . ." Hks hand gently squeezed Eris', a silent promise to her he would never let falter.[break][break]

"Go!"

With Isaac holding one hand and Reiner gently clinging onto the other, she feels secure. For the first time in many nights, she feels like there'll be someone there to catch them when they stumble and watch their every step of the way. Her grip on the lantern tightens, her eyes tracing the quiet glow as it floats up into the sky, getting smaller and smaller until it becomes yet another star in that endless night.[break][break]

She isn't alone in this... and her heart feels just that bit lighter.[break][break]

"Next time, I wanna go light sparklers on a beach."
