He had the afternoon to himself for once.

No work, no prior obligations. For a moment Barnaby had almost given into the temptation of staying indoors and curling into bed for an early night of scrolling TikTok.

Instead, he opted for a late afternoon jog. The weather was still cool, making it the perfect time to get outside and exercise.

Barnaby's light afternoon jog turned into a bit of a slog. He'd popped in his earbuds and gotten lost in the upbeat, synthwave tones that flowed from his head to his feet, spurring him on. Before he knew it he'd ventured farther than Route 111 than he'd intended.

Past the thick line of trees along the road and into a more open plain. To the side of the path, off a little ways but still within view, was a large sandy patch. Normally he would have run past without a second glance, but something huge and red stood out in his peripheral vision.

A SKELEDIRGE.

"Oh, you're coming home with me."

At this point, there were very few Fire-types that Barnaby had yet to own. This happened to be one of them (and lots of the other Paldean Pokémon, but we'll GET THERE!!). Releasing his STARMIE, Evangeline, he nodded for them to take care of it, Luxury Ball at the ready.
