A VAST DESERT LANDSCAPE dotted with rocky structures and monoliths. Curiously, they almost seem humanmade, though there are no signs of people here. Shrubbery and turquoise crystals are encrusted throughout the bright and sweltering dryland. Occasionally, you may stumble upon rocky terrain that is difficult to traverse.[break][break]

Mysterious obelisks with missing seals are situated throughout the desert. No one knows why they exist, or who made them.

The long awaited sequel!

"Nothin' of note 'ere... Let's continue. Desert Recon Squad, move out!" Boomed Colonel Sullivan as his palms slapped together, turning his gaze towards the vehicle's driver, Sigurd Holst, and nodding.

With one foot on the dash panel and his hand firmly afixed to the top side rail, Doug looked the part of the hardboiled movie sergeant just about right, so he liked to think.

Sweat poured down his cheeks as he swiped his forearm across his forehead and huffed, glaring up at the alien sun in the sky. Be it on Earth or wherever this was, it seemed as though a desert could be trusted to just be a desert.

The glaring heat represented an unavoidable obstacle that their team could only conquer through sheer grit alone. The harsh sunlight triumphed any attempts at weather control from their pokemon.

"Sheesh, gonna have to contract skyler dross at this rate!" Grumbled the youth as he swept the sweat from under his chin, panting as he turned his gaze over to the other two members of the squad— Elaine Highland and maverick noah ryder. "You two doing okay?"

By now you’d think he might’ve gotten used to the heat. But no. No matter how much time he spent within this endless desert, his body simply did not take to the heat. He longed for the days of cold, to feel the sensation of ice and snow, even if it was woefully sparse in Hoenn.

John Sullivan’s nod was returned with one of his own as he turned on the vehicle and readied it to move out. The Vehicle he drove offered woefully little protection either, not even a proper functioning Air-con.

Sweat poured from every pore in his body. His uniform was drenched by now. Was it not for the constant sips of water, he might’ve been dehydrated already.

One creature that did enjoy the heat though, was his Flygon which flew high above. Happy coo’s escaped it as it flew about keeping the skies safe and made sure to spot for any dangers ahead.

Apparently they did so well last time in the scorching desert, the league requested for them to go out on other run to explore this new area. Whether that was a good thing or bad, Maverick was still mentally debating it.[break][break]

Warm crimson colored orbs shifted over the vast landscape of hilly beige sand, feeling the harsh heat from the suns rays as a droplet of liquid ran down the side of his face. Despite the ungodly heat and the barren wasteland, the burnt scarred man still would rather deal with this than being underwater.[break][break]

A familiar shout of his name drew his attention to their Captain, a placid bored expression on his face when he meet his gaze. “Hmmm,” the man replied in a hum at first, taking a moment to process what John’s question was, “Oh yeah. I’m good.” His gaze returned to the landscape, boringly watching the hills of sand. “Probably shouldn’t have worn black again, huh?” He mumbled out loud and letting his comment trail off, “This heat is intense.”

2nd Expedition

The desert was no place for a woman from Sinnoh. If she was tossed into a harsh, unforgiving, snowy landscape, Elaine would have had nary an issue, even as a city girl. She would have been able to survive one way or the other.

But that meant that she was the type of person who would not have the best of times in the desert.

Even with her hair done up, she was pouring some of the water in her canteen onto her head to at least give her some method to cool down. Even as she had made sure not to pour too much onto her, some had clearly gotten onto her clothes to the point where her top was now sticking to her.

But all of that would pass in due time. The water would eventually evaporate and cool her off for just a bit.

As she rested her head against the back of top of her seat, she could see Tiamat in the sky flying along with Sigurd's own.

"I'm managing, I guess." Elaine sighed. "I've never been good with the heat. Though at least Tiamat is happy."

One eternity of complaining about the heat and a fair drive later, the vehicle came to a halt. Sigurd’s Flygon had noticed something and made them aware of it.

As the Vehicle approached whatever it was, a couple of Mandibuzz made their escape rather annoyed. Even from the driver’s seat Sigurd could spot the remains of a now-dead buzzwole,a rather big one at that.

But as he stepped out of the vehicle and walked closer to inspect it, he noticed long slender appendages as well. It seemed a Pheromosa had died here as well.

Perhaps they killed each other? Sigurd thought as he took a moment to study both corpses.

Maverick continued his blank stare out into the vast desert, a heavy bored sigh escaped him as the sun baked him. He had to admit that he was kinda thrilled to go here again, but then remembered how boring the ride out here was. The man grumbled to himself, sitting back in his eat as he gaze shifted at the seen before them.[break][break]

A brow rose, spotting the mandibuzz that swarmed something ahead. The driver was quick to head into the direction, pulling up to the scene as the wild pokemon scattered from what looked like remains from something. It was Sigurd who hopped out of the vehicle first, Maverick leaning himself half out of the car to try to get a better look. “What is is?”

The long awaited sequel!

Unsurprisingly, no one was a fan of the ungodly heat.

"Tell me about it." Said Doug to maverick noah ryder as he fanned his face with a roughly drafted, work-in-progress map, the youth huffing as he peered into the horizon. "I don't think this coat was a good idea."

Doug wore his cape-esque overcoat wherever he thought he could get away with, but he had clearly been wrong in this particular instance. Did it mean he was going to take it off?

So long as the wind continued to blow their way, hell no. The coat flapping in the wind looked badass.

His gaze was drawn skyward by Elaine Highland's words, eyeing the Flygon's as their silhouettes cut through the orange skies. They were probably getting a far cooler breeze than the car squad.

"Maybe we'll join them up there next time." The youth said wryly as he continued to watch them, before his brows furrowed as the Flygon suddenly took off ahead and went off their path. "... Follow them!"

Nothing would've prepared him for what the desert dragons had found.

"Let's find out!" He said to Maverick as he hauled himself out of the car and followed behind Sigurd Holst.

He hadn't been expecting much; probably why he was blown away.

"Friggin' hell." Muttered Doug under his breath as he stood by the rest of the squad, brows furrowed deeply into a tense frown as he bit onto his thumb.

Two of the few bugs he didn't have laid in the sand before him, bodies brutalized beyond sustaining life. Mandibuzz had been having at them earlier before, but they hadn't been able to completely ruin the corpses.

"... Think there might be more of these around here?" He asked after a moment, eyes shining with the madness of a bugcatcher as he slowly palmed two empty net balls.

Even the corpses of Ultra Beasts could be useful specimens.

2nd Expedition

It wasn't just Sigurd's Flygon that had caught onto the sight in the distance either. Tiamat had seemed to notice it at the same time considering she had been circling around the abnormality from above by the time the group had made it there.

Without waiting to open the door, she hopped off the side of the vehicle only to see the same site everyone had been reviled by.

And yet, the young woman seemed almost unperturbed by the macabre sight before her.

"The bigger question is how did they..."

Did they fight each other and take each others' lives? Or was there something else that had taken them both down and left.

Her head turned in the direction of multiple fragments of red and white exoskeleton that she had been noticing were a decent distance off from where the corpses lay. That was not good...

"TIAMAT! TAKE ME UP!"

She backed off a bit so that her Flygon's descent would not disturb the scene before she jumped atop its back. Rather than landing and reascending, it simply went down and back up, causing a small bit of sand to be tossed up.

As the two ascended, she tried to scan as best she could throughout the entire landscape.

"Sand...sand...sand...no prints...sand...sand...sand...coarse and rough and irritating...sand..."

But Elaine sighed out of some relief. If the corpses were left behind by a third party, they were long gone (unless they were underground, though the possibility felt unlikely for now).

"ALL CLEAR--wait..." But as she attempted to signal that there were nothing beyond the scavengers that they had just shooed off by their presence, she saw something else from that height. "What's that there?"

Her hand blocked the sun beaming into her eyes as she tried to focus her vision on something in that distance. A metallic structure that definitely not sand.

“It is possible?” Sigurd gave John Sullivan a rather uncertain response.

“But would we want there to be more of them?” Sigurd continued. He couldn’t help but feel unease. Weren’t these supposed to be those ULTRA BEASTS that were known to cause a lot of trouble wherever they were.

A wary gaze looking out over the sands praying they weren’t about to be ambushed by the living relatives of these dead ultra beasts.

Everyone got out of their vehicles as soon as they came to the site. Following everyone else’s lead, the burnt scarred male did the same and jumped out of the car. He approached the remains, brow rose impressed by how large they were. It made his mind wonder, what happened? The seemed so big, legendary or ultra beast sized. Did they fight to the death? And if so, for what?[break][break]

Of course, Maverick was silent the entire time. He had a hard time prying his gaze off of it. Secretly, the man wanted to touch them. He’s never owned an ultra beast before, but heard there were a select few who did. This would probably be the closest he would ever get to it.[break][break]

Yet as he silently debated with himself, it was Elaine Highland suddenly lifting off into the air with her flagon that snapped him out of the trans. His gaze followed her the best he could, hand rose to shield his pupils from the blinding sun to keep track of her silhouette. And after a good look around, it appears she spotted something.[break][break]

Crimson orbs shifted to their leader John Sullivan, a single brow rose in curiosity. “Should we investigate it?”

1st Expedition

"Should we investigate it?"

For someone like Elaine, the answer was obvious. The others were investigating the mangled corpses on the ground and she had found a few hints of her own, but that was it. Chances were that unless there was some major areas where there were changes in the sand or if there was another patch of quicksand like last time, further investigating here would remain futile.

"Of course, we should investigate it." Elaine smiled as she looked off to the distant structure. Though the star of wherever this was beating down upon her with heat, the convection of the air caused by Tiamat's wings was keeping her surprisingly cool.

"I'm going to go on ahead, then. There's nothing popping up in between here and the thing in the distance. There should be nothing that will ambush you guys so it should be a straight shot there. I'll scout the area to make sure it's safe."

Without much more of a word, she zoomed off to what was clearly not sand and clearly not of this area.

The long awaited sequel!

"Alright, thanks— oh. No thanks?!" He called out when Elaine Highland began to give them the clear, before she called it off, having noticed something in the distance. "Aw crud, what now?"

God bless Sigurd Holst's laser focus on the bugs; Doug too wished they could just focus on those and ignore whatever else might be lurking in the desert— unfortunately, the bug hunt would have to wait for a more opportune time. This was still a reconnaissance mission.

"We can look into it another day; we should try n'help— Oup, there she goes." He said, scratching at his cheek before shrugging the blonde man's way. Turning his gaze towards maverick noah ryder, the young soldier grinned. "Well, she wasn't wrong. Something that big and man-made-ey is just beggin' for us to get in there. Shall we, gentlemen?"

Hopping back onto the vehicle, the youth waited for the other men to join him before they sped off behind their scout.

The desert revealed an enormous vessel, stranded and weathered. Its metallic hull was cracked, and its size commanded attention, casting vast a shadow over the sands. The vessel's outward architecture was alien to the eye, impossible and unreal as if it had leapt from the pages of a penny dreadful, with corridors twisted by time, rust and force, and mysterious markings covering every inch of its many surfaces.

Pulsating masses of crystals emitted faint, otherworldly lights as they spread across its hull and inner halls. The desert sands surrounding the vessel took on a muted, reddish hue underneath its glows.

"Phhheeeeeew." Whistled the Colonel as he looked up at the behemoth machinery. "So... who wants to go first?"

Beat.

"One-two-three not-it."
