matias has always been comfortable with his own mortality simply because he has long refused to confront the reality of it. he thinks of himself as invincible, that no amount of hurt or pain thrown at him would ever be enough to end him.[break][break]

the fact that their last words are etched into this random inn is unnerving. a part of him still refuses to accept that they're real.[break][break]

Palms meeting the edge of the bartop, she pushed herself away just far enough to slip out from her stool. From there she moved back toward the front of the inn, where the markings all laid scribbled out for her eyes to soak up.

If that vision was right, their deaths had become entangled. An end brought on by a pursuit neither could quite handle. If her words fell in line with his, it'd somehow connect. Or, at least, that's what she thought.

A faint smile whispered Penelope's soft bids of gratitude. Grip slackening, she was able to return her eyes to the sea of the names that ebbed and flowed across the decrepit wood.
