She’d do anything to numb her own pain, even if that meant absorbing the pain of others in return. At least it wouldn’t be her own. It would be an excuse for feeling the broken way she did, an elaborate charade that made it acceptable for her heart to still keep bleeding. Each drop that fell slowly drained the life out of her, driving her towards the edge of a complete breakdown.

Whatever thin strands she clung to kept her functioning. She was more like a machine than herself. Each movement out of necessity, not desire. The necessity to survive.

Littleroot still reeled from the destruction of the battle. The viciousness of their fight did more harm than good. Though it looked much better, the sight was still heartbreaking. Where a quaint theatre once stood, a pile of rubble grew taller and taller. Around them the steady beat of hammers and beeps of construction vehicles attempted to rebuild the homes lost.

But they’d never bring back the lives lost.

Eva hadn’t visited Littleroot in quite some time. She used to do a lot of volunteer work in the outskirts, bringing advance medical attention to those that needed it since the rural areas lacked anything beyond the basic pokecenter.

Now she was here to help, observe, bring hope.

Hope.

How could she bring hope when she didn’t have any herself?

Her chin tilted towards the sky, a silent prayer to the one she knew was listening, “Give me strength,” but she was met with silence. A Peacemaker couldn’t bring peace when she couldn’t find peace within herself.

As Eva had her head up to the sky, something would lightly bounce off of her forehead and onto the ground. It was a pale yellow color and smelled faintly of flavored chips. Focusing above would reveal a steady beat that was coming from above.

Crnch. Crnch. Crnch.

It was atop one of the one story buildings where a lone woman lay on front. Her legs kicked up back and forth, hands digging into a bag of chips as she'd swallow a mouthful of pecha berry flavored chips flavored snack. She'd continue enjoying her break before her eyes moved downward to interlock with Eva's. A moment of silence between the two sounded out until the redhead was the first to break it. "Oof, phfforreh!" Sylvia called out with a mouthful of chips, swallowing them whole. She beamed in elation at Eva, hopping down to land on one of the overhanging ledges that was above Eva. The woman slowly walked out, idly chewing on a chip from her bag.

"You ever try the berry chips here? They're pretty good. I've had like 3 of these things so far. Here, try one!" she said, tossing the bag at Eva in case she wanted some. Sylvia wiped her mouth on her sleeve before taking to pacing around on the ledge, digging into her pockets for a little notepad. She flipped a few pages and cleared her throat.

"Dr. Eva Morales. Veterinarian, Major in the Hoenn Army, Head Professor of the League, blah blah. None of it really matters. But I'll tell you what does!"

Sylvia shoved the notepad back into her coat pocket before motioning towards the woman, her arms full of a grandiose energy. "You're the Avatar of the one and only Rayquza! And just the Hero that I'm looking for! But as some advice:" A hand raised above her head as she took on a theatric performance. Her free hand was placed over her heart, with the redhead teasing the good doctor a tad. "The world is a cruel and unforgiving place, my darling Hero. Nobody is going to ever give you anything. Not even an ancient being himself. You're the only one who can give you anything. Trust me, I tried to understand why life was so hard for a loooong time before it clicked. But don't worry! I'm going to help you rise up to something big, Hero!"

Her tone was cheery and brimming with a type of childish energy as the woman sat back down. She crossed her legs and continued to snicker devilishly to herself. Her hand shot towards her waist and pulled out a Pokeball, tossing up and down. Her emerald eyes scanned around the city before returning to Eva again.

"Every hero needs a good call to action! But first, do you wanna play a game with me? It'll be fuuuun~"

The sudden light weight of . . . something against her forehead made her flinch. Her eyes snaped open beneath a furrowed, mildly concerned brow. She gently rubbed her forehead, glancing down at the ground to see what it was that fell. Was that a-

A feminine voice called her attention back towards the sky, moving to fix on the red head that seemed quite invested in her snack. It was a chip that fell. Ew.

A lot of things ran through her mind in that moment while she watched Sylvia nimbly jump down and meet her on the broken cobblestone road in front of the small building. The most significant of these feelings was confusion.

What the fuck was happening?

The look that fixated on Sylvia was obviously one of confusion. It only twisted into more bewilderment as the stranger continued to go on and on about her titles and something about heroes and rising to her true potential? Honestly she wasn’t paying attention. Her distracted mind was busy with more pressing matters.

Eva shared a look with Syah the Machamp who seemed just as confused as she was. Quite frankly, Eva didn’t have time for this – or the patience. This woman was obviously crazy. Normally, the doctor would have been moved to speak with her, make sure she was ok and guide her back to sanity. Unfortunately for Sylvia, Eva wasn’t feeling philanthropic or social.

“Um,” she furrowed her brows, eyeing the pokeball rising and falling from the palm of her hand, “No thanks, we’re busy so we’re just gonna go,” she pointed further down the path where they were expecting her and began walking past Sylvia followed closely by the Machamp.

"Heh, I knew that you- wait, what?"

Sylvia froze at her words being immediately discarded by Eva. The woman pushed by her followed by the Machamp going beside her. She stood in place, bewildered at the sheer gall of this little woman to just ignore everything. All that effort thought into an epic introduction. The appearance of the villain fit for the main character as their eternal struggle would continue. All ruined and thrown into the waste basket! "H-Hey! You big jerk! I spent all night coming up with that introduction and you RUINED IT!" She spun around, storming back up to catch with Eva. All the while mumbling all sorts of colorful language at the woman. She'd bounce right back in front of her. Her teasing, playful expression had now turned into one of frustration. Of course, Eva could either be forced to entertain her flowery prose or the theatrics up to a point, but sooner or later, Sylvia would get the message that she was flat out not interested in anything she was saying.

"Fine! Since you clearly don't have any taste for proper storytelling, I'll stop bugging you." Sylvia pursed her lips and crossing her arms. She began to walk away in a huff, speaking loud enough she'd still be understandable to Eva.

"I was about to tell you about the explosives that Rocket placed all around Littleroot Town to blow it and everyone inside to kingdom come, but you're clearly not interested. Have a good day, Doctor."

Jerk? That was a rare descriptor of the professor. Normally, she would have given this stranger more time but her emotionally fragile state tested her patience in a way she had never experienced before. Irritation combined with a subtle hint of guilt swelled in her as she turned around, a normally friendly emerald gaze narrowed on the red head.

Red head. All she saw was her. and that only escalated the irritation.

Of course, mentioning Rocket peeked her interest. In fact, more so that the mention of bombs because she didn’t believe it, “Bombs?” a critical look fixed on Sylvie before she spoke again, “I don’t believe you,” Rocket was many, many things but Littelroot was not a strategic place to bomb. As much as Eva wanted to believe it, she knew Rocket wasn’t stupid.

Oh, now she was interested. You just casually make a bomb threat and then suddenly everybody gets all serious and gives you all of that undivided attention. Sylvia scoffed at Eva as she replied in full. And to be fair, it was a pretty reasonable statement to have some bit of skepticism about. Littleroot was the farthest thing from important locale, and nobody would be caught dead wasting Rocket resources on some stunt like this. But Sylvia wasn't really one to play by the rules and all. She dug inside of her pocket and produced a piece of parchment bearing the Rocket symbol on the front.

"Then how'd I get my hands on this juicy Rocket document about the timings? Let's see the first one....Bomb location is at the derelict construction site abandoned due to misuse of funding. Blah blah blah...Latitude 40.7127281, Longitude -74.0060152. Timer discrepancy: t-minus 5 minutes until 12:50. Which means that it should be going off-"

An explosion rocked the land near town, as one of the unused constructions sites would suddenly be up in flames. Debris and shrapnel went everywhere as Sylvia looked behind her. Of course, she hid that happy grin that everything was going according to plan! If this wasn't certain to get that dumb doctor up off of her ass, then nothing would!

"Right about now. That's why I was looking for you, Mrs. Avatar. See, I don't know this place like you do. And this here official document says there's a bunch of other explosives around. I need your help to find them all so I can deactivate them and make sure that Littleroot doesn't turn into Littlecrater."

The skepticism began to slowly dwindle as her gaze trained down to the parchment produced by the strange. An unforgettable red R displayed on the document made it’s origins clear – unless it was fraud.

Which it wasn’t.

The explosion caused Eva to flinch, snapping her attention away from Sylvia and towards the plume of smoke rising above the shattered rooftops, “Fuckin hell!” her hand snaps to her belt, a wave of crimson light cracks across the ground and rises to form the silhouette of a Gallade, “Get the pack, go see if anyone is hurt,” he follows her pointed finger to the black cloud before disappearing with a TELEPORT to retrieve the medical pack.

The Machamp beside her snarls, turning its raged attention back towards Sylvia, “Alright. Talk. How’d you get your hands on that? How many and where?” her mind raced with the possibilities. Was she a concerned citizen? A rocket grunt meant to distract her? A silly girl looking for trouble?

Yesss! Now she got her! Sylvia would have pumped a fist in victory had she not been trying to keep a simmer on her true intentions to this woman. And that Machamp, for as cute and fearsome as he looked, could probably break her in half if he had a good reason, so it was probably within her best interests to keep that on the down low. She played up that little angle of somebody that would get a file like this. A citizen of Littleroot? No, that was too obvious a lie. What about some kind of person who found it somewhere? Probably also a good lie.

"I'm a wannabe Ranger and I knocked out some Rocket grunts to get some revenge for my friend, and I got it from one of them!" Sylvia explained, waggling it in front of the woman. As a sign of good faith, she handed the document over to her as a show of good faith. Eva would be able to see the sites and locations of the bombs. In total, there were a total of 7 across town, and with the first already exploded, that left a total of 6 unclaimed bombs.

"So, do you wanna waste time playing 100 Questions and watch the next building explode, or do you want to help me save this place?"

Eva’s suspicious gaze continued to follow the stranger as she neared with the piece of paper. Her lips pulled into a tight frown as she snatched it from her grip to look at. The Machamp moved closer, leaning over to also view the paper.

“A wannabe ranger, huh?” she didn’t sound convinced. After all, why would a wannabe ranger waste their time munching on chips, waiting for someone to walk by that could be helpful instead of taking this directly to their designated Captain? “You could have a whole squad of Rangers defusing these bombs by now,” she chastised. Instead, one had already gone off, “It was a stupid mistake not to take this to a local Captain,” or the Police or literally anyone instead of wasting time eating chips.

Eva took a quick look around to judge where they were then a quick picture of the paper with her RotomPhone, “Syah, go get the local authorities involved, give them this, we’ll start with the ones closest to us right now,” the paper was handed off again, this time to the Machamp. She nodded before obeying and turning to run off towards where a local station might be.

“Alright, let’s go.”

Hm, more intricate Ranger stuff. Sylvia would have to take things a little more carefully now as to not blow her cover. She'd work up her best frown at Eva, trying to play up that guilty angle like the best actress she could be. "Ah-I'm sorry, okay?! It was my day off and I didn't want to fill out paperwork, s-so I waited for a superior to wander by." Her eyes were big and pleading at her to fix this mess before the good doctor agreed to help her dispose of the bombs around Littleroot. "Perfect! The next bomb that's due to go off is behind the Pokecenter! I don't really know this place well, so I'll let you lead, Ma'am!" She smiled, happy to play the role of the grunt who was trying to make up for their little slip up!

If this stranger thought she was quelling Eva’s frustrations by complaining about paperwork, she was only stoking the fire further. Eva spares a glance back at Syliva, one that has a sharp whip to it with obvious judgment, “So bombs in a city isn’t important enough to take action right away?” she turns back to the most direct path towards the closest explosive, “What do you need? Another frikken meteor?” she vaguely motioned towards the skies.

Her frown lips quickly turned into a frown when Sylvia wasn’t looking. Something about this didn’t smell right.

Littleroot’s Pokecenter happened to be her little pet project. The idea of it going up in flames so quickly after its completion put an extra pep in her step, “Hurry up,” she encouraged, picking up the pace to a light jog to get there quicker.

A flash of light brought a Politoed to the party, hoping his DAMP ability will provide some sort of protection against an EXPLOSION, “Where around here is it?” she glanced down at copy of the paper Sylvia has provided.

Yep, she totally bought it! 100%! Sylvia was, like, the smoothest criminal ever. She mentally smirked at her handiwork, congratulating herself for a good performance as Eva ran ahead of her. The other girl sped up to match her pace as the PokeCenter would come into view. Eva brought up the document again as the two scoured its contents to try and figure out what kind of dastardly villain would plant the bomb and just forget about it?! Luckily Sylvia knew where she'd be able to plant it but play along. The coordinates would read another coordinate, but she'd have to think of some excuse to stumble upon it. "Lesse...That's around the side of the building, right?" she asked, leading the way there as sure enough, a little neatly packed plastic explosive device would be beeping and glowing as the clock counted down. "Perfect, we found it. Lemme just..." The woman carefully dug into where the wires met the box as the timer deactivated. In Actuality, all Sylvia did was to remove the connection from the battery powering the timer.

"That's one!" Sylvia said, pumping her fist. "Let's see. According to this paper, the next two bombs are near the town hall. One's inside, near the kitchen and the other is somewhere in the office..."
