"in some cases, i guess not," he answers.

he crosses his arms as he approaches the lake, building up a list to hit matias with.

"i don't trust you in cooking, in public talking, in group missions of more than three people, in watching over kids..."

the list goes on. kyle would be able to add more, but he figured he probably shouldn't. he's bound to hit a sensitive spot eventually, so he stops himself abruptly.

to see matias worrying about something was new. he wonders if it's because his job is in jeopardy, or anything that compromises anything that he cares about.

kyle catches his cold line of thinking and corrects it like a bug in the system.

"you do get the job done, so it's hard to get rid of you. the league has trust in you in that regard."

he turns to matias, a brow raised alongside the question that he's pondered about every since the start of the question.

"did you something anything wrong again?"

that's his belief as well, that as long as he gets things done and that he has power, the league will keep him around.[break][break]

but what PENELOPE LIVY had dug deep, roots of doubt spreading across his entire person. it's unfamiliar and it's the unfamiliarity that worries him.[break][break]

"reputation. background checks. crime scene investigations. a lot of those are part of the deliberation process, fair or not."

he's seen a lot of criminals go free, and the unfairly accused go to jail. it's not new to his chosen career, and the only thing someone like him can help is through evidence.

in matias' case, that part doesn't help him anyways.

"tell me though, what exactly started it? i'm sure you omitted parts of it from the report since it's, well, personal."

kyle sighs heavily.

"the report said it's a training accident. between an avatar being used by its patron versus one whose bond flourished from being indebted, it's easy to paint a picture that differs from the truth. especially since, well, one of you has a habit of starting fights."

behavior between legends was more easily excused than those of humans. they can't be policed as easily, after all, and as matias mentioned, the subject of trust is weighed when certain parts of the story are omitted.

kyle brings up a fair point. a valid point. because the whole fight was painted as a training accident which brings into question their abilities to keep their legendaries in check. it's only natural for aqua to get involved.[break][break]

but, still, the fact that he was slapped with an ankle monitor while Eva Morales is off running around in kanto is sickening.[break][break]

kyle scratches his chin. he already sees it happening, no matter how subtle the signs are. microaggressions are fairly easy to recognize, especially when they're unusually polite to everyone else.

"they're trying to be professional, at least."

he tries to diffuse the topic, but he cannot say that it's entirely wrong just to cheer him up. an awkward chuckle takes its place instead.

"if you weren't detained, i bet you'd push those limits instead."

the awkward chuckle turns to a genuine snickering. it wouldn't be an appropriate response, but it would be a matias response. he always gave him the impression that he always felt cornered.

"it's the same case for them. you don't attempt to understand them."

as much as kyle shares matias' view on most meetings held with him around, there was always a case of him watering it down until it becomes palatable for the tastes of everyone else in the table.

"you're a speedrunner. they're completionists. same game, different playstyles. they cannot afford any sacrifices, while you can."

most of hoenn fit the latter. people that make decisions for the region compromise it as well. with only a few arbiters, matias easily becomes the black sheep of the league for being the odd one out.

"it's easier to hone in on you since you don't fit the mold. have you tried seeing things in their perspective?"

he scratches the back of his head, knowing that it's true. it's one whose reasoning behind the decision still eludes him.

"a compromise is difficult when majority makes up for the other extreme end, i'm with you on that."

he stretches his arms as a way to let go of frustrations he shares with matias.

opinions he has are usually shared by very few people on the table when it comes to the discussion table. it doesn't help that his brashness causes people to see him superficially, especially in a room of people who cannot dig deep beneath the surface.

he is met with relief when he hears that kyle agrees with him. more than relieved, actually, as the reassurance tugs him away from the edge he had been so ready to jump off.[break][break]
