this was a first. on hindsight, the only other person on the council he can consider himself close with is matias' own brother, of which they don't talk much about politics.

"makes sense on paper. you can always replace a member of the elite four with any other talent, but you cannot with someone who has field experience, higher education and workable personality."

and the legendary pokemon they have, of course. "i suppose rayquaza always trumps groudon on legends too."

he smiles at matias. it's more teasing than anything, but he stops listing things that prod the beast.

he's too lazy to do the air quotes motion when he asked the question. maybe he should have, just to clear things up for poor matias.

regardless of what he says, kyle knows the answer is no. he's the type of person who says he doesn't care just to make it easier for himself. he knows since he's been the same before.

he responds with a cold hard stare and a apathetic expression before bursting into laughter. he can't hold himself in when matias makes a joke like that.

"no!" he manages a short answer before getting it out of his system. "it's because you're different."

he exhales.

"you see the world in a different way. it clashes with other people's realities and, well, they're going to fight to prove that theirs isn't invalid."

he tilts his head as he turns to matias. "does that make sense?"

his phone rings from his pocket. kyle takes a quick look at his wristwatch, and then snatches his phone up from his side. it only takes a glance on the screen before kyle's face turns gloomy.

"well, i have to go." he quickly finishes off the bottle. "life's unfair, but that doesn't mean you go against it. don't cause trouble while i'm assigned to you, alright?"

kyle takes off in a hurry.
