The days had not been kind to a little ms Penelope Livy.

Decked out in an oversized hoodie, ragged leggings, and dirty converse, the councilwoman was in her mundane disguise. Not many would come to recognize her, especially with her loose red hair dripping down her shoulders and half obscured face, hidden by the hood of her jacket.

She knew better than to show herself in public like this. It looked bad, not only for herself, but for the league she represented. But ever since that day spent at MATIAS SILPH' ranch, then the following afternoon at Elisabeth Fiorelli cottage, Penelope's entire head had melted so far down, that even the formalities of her work had become far to complex to recall. Especially for a short trip to the grocery store.

Hands curled tight around the handle bar of her shopping cart, the young heartbroken woman mindlessly traveled down the narrow aisles of the humbly quiet grocery store.

the days have been kinder to the hoenn hotshot but they haven't always been. after what has felt like months of stormy weather, he has gotten a glimpse of the sun, and he could not have done so without the help of kyle lopez and noah faber.[break][break]

he will be forever in their debts.[break][break]

which is why he's at the grocery store today to pick up a few groceries for them. he plans on cooking lasagna, a cursed dish that he hopes will soon be uncursed.[break][break]

Where recognition flooded him, Penelope was left dried and clueless. Eyes set down at the tiles below, she looked to move her cart out from the crash site, readied to speed off onto the next aisle.

That voice. In the sea of her own self-pity, it was easy to ignore it. It sounded no different than the other murmurs of sound that surrounded her. But the further it called out to her, the less she could dismiss the distinct familiarity of its tone. It grappled her heart, strangling it between tight fingers and vengeful fingernails.

When she finally looked up to face him, it wasn't as councilwoman livy, the woman of valor he'd come to know, or even HBS journalist livy, full of life and fiery passion. Instead, hidden within the cloak of shame, was the shell of a woman. Lost, but not completely forgotten. Emptied, but not numbed.

Deep-set purple bags lay right below her eyes and her cheeks looked washed of any color. If there was ever a cry for help, this would be it.

The awkwardness served little to break the tension. If anything, it only made it more suffocating.

Because she wasn't. She felt gutted, emptied, and discarded. No better than a can of tuna.

"I shouldn't," she shook her head. Guilt still warped her insides as memories reminded her of the reality of her actions. Not even a week after their breakup, she'd sought comfort in the bed of another. Her ex, ollie morales, no less. Then, a few days later, MATIAS SILPH. The man she'd cheated on him with.

And, worse of all, her thoughts were captured by him. Encaged by the memories of his smile, of the taste of his lips, and all else that'd accompanied her that painfully short month spent together.

She let him put his hand over hers and eventually push their carts up to the cashier.

Refusal perched itself on the tip of her tongue, but after everything that's happened, silence felt easier to fall into.

Throughout the checkout process, Penelope did her best to keep to herself. Each item was quickly scanned, bagged, then ultimately paid for with the speed befitting an employee more than a customer. It was all to hopefully finish fast enough to evade CIAN MAHER's offer of help, though, by the time she'd finished, he was done with his already.

Shame flushed her face in a tinge of pink - a rarity even Cian wouldn't be used to seeing. For all the pride she'd normally well up inside, the vulnerability of heartbreak had removed all pieces of her armor. It made even the simplest concealment of her own emotions impossible.

Grocery bags twisted around the palms of her hands, Penelope gave a meek nod before heading out. Her hotel was no more than a short block north of the grocery store.

"So you've been staying with kyle lopez and noah faber," she forced a smile, eyes focusing on their path forward. "How's that."

The answer would most likely feel like needles in her skin, but if it meant keeping the spotlight off of her, she would do anything.
