"Sure!" Frank said, enthusiastic. "Let me see. I went with a Ranger and his friend, both of whom were really handy at defending us against a strange Pokémon. It was like a Cofagrigus, but twisted?"[break][break]

He shrugged, unsure how he was going to describe such a unique phenomenon.[break][break]

"It actually killed one of the Ranger's Pokémon, but somehow we were able to bring it back to life." Frank shook his head, still finding the experience difficult to believe, though he had witnessed it firsthand. "I'd never seen anything like it, Hazel. It was insane!"[break][break]

Suddenly, out of the sand popped a Wiglett. Frank's Malamar entangled it with WRAP to prevent it from disappearing back into the ground. A squeak of alarm alerted Frank to its presence. He threw a Pokéball to save it from further harm.

His head tilted, a soft frown of confusion marred his expression though it was soon replaced with a wayward excitement that often showed itself whenever Hazel was confronted with something new and discoverable.[break][break]

“A cofagrigus, but twisted? I’ve never heard of such a thing!”[break][break]

A cleffa toddled into the open, and Hazel was quick to step over to the baby Pokémon in order to scoop it up before some larger Pokémon tried to pick the little fella off. He patted it on the head as he turned back toward Frank.[break][break]

“Admittedly, I’m jealous! I think I’d quite like to explore some of the more ancient seeming areas. It sounds terribly exciting.”

"Do you want to come with me next time I go on one?" Frank offered as he scooped up the Pokéball with his new Wiglett. "I heard about this cool desert with ancient ruins that look like they have writing on them, or something."[break][break]

After his experience at the Border, he had no interest in returning to it.[break][break]

"That might be something more up your alley. We'd have to bring an escort who can take care of the strange Pokémon, like a Ranger, maybe."[break][break]

A Crawdaunt scuttled toward them along the sand. Queenie the Malamar dealt it an unexpected blow with a quick PLUCK, giving Frank the chance to throw another Pokéball.

At the offer, Hazel’s eyes lit up with obvious interest. “Yes, absolutely! If it’s not too much trouble, and I’m not imposing, of course.” A desert with old artifacts and structures sounded completely ideal.[break][break]

His mind had already begun the process of whirring at higher speed. Ideas about what might be out there, and what sort of histories might be possible to uncover amid potentially foreign ruins filtered in, and his mouth opened briefly as he thought to begin sharing, before it quickly snapped shut again.[break][break]

This was not Hugo Albrecht, who humored his (very) long winded tangents. And the last thing Hazel wanted was for Frank to regret making the offer for an obvious history buff to come along. “An escort sounds fine,” he replied with a short nod. “I’m not the most astute battler.”[break][break]

A wide smile settled on his face, further brightening what had been a somewhat solemn demeanor before he’d run into Frank. “Thank you for the invitation,” he commented before glancing down at his watch, “Oh, but it seems I’m running a bit behind. I should be off.” Check-ups and all that. “Do let me know when you’re available.”[break][break]

He’d worry about the health factor later, and figure out some way for it not to complicate things. He’d never let it stop him before, anyway.
