Remiel wonders if being paired up with another ranger had been done intentionally. Perhaps dahlia goode thought it would do him some goode to spend time with a few. After all, weren't the rangers of Hoenn typically known for their nobility and good-hearted natures? He'd found out for himself when one had nearly gotten him arrested for excavating in METEOR FALLS without a permit.

Nevertheless, he can't help but find annalise henderson oddly familiar. They'd seen each other somewhere before... right? Or was the INTERDREAM MIST simply making him think they had? Given his previous experience with the mist at the STAR SOIREE, the mere sight of it made him uneasy and uncertain of everything. Could this... could this all just be a dream?

No. He must not fall into the paranoia of such thoughts. Thankfully, his SHINY POIPOLE is there to give him a HELPING HAND, snapping him out of it with a nudge.

It's only then that the royal realizes Annalise had asked him a question... of sorts. "Last I checked... yes," He responds, turning to her with a slightly baffled look as they walk through the dripping cavern. "You've heard of me before, I take it?" Considering she'd been the HEAD RANGER, he hoped it hadn't been through the incident report years ago.

The fact that she feels the need to whisper such a thing in such an empty place might have brought the hint of a smile to his face if he didn't feel so uneasy. That being the case, Remiel can only bring himself to nod in confirmation before his attention shifts elsewhere. Was that a footstep he'd just heard down the corridor? Or something else?

"Do you ... know me?"

The royal stops to acknowledge her next question, turning around to find her looking up at him. "I know of you," He responds, recalling an intel report on his former desk as Admin. "Your name is annalise henderson and... you're HEAD RANGER of Hoenn, is that right?"

Meanwhile, ZLATO scouts ahead to explore the eerie chamber they're approaching. Strange fungi inhabit the area, surrounding what appears to be a pit of bones.

the forest shimmers like a highway mirage on a hot day. occasionally, the mist loosens its grip and she can see gaps in the illusion where the starry night sky is replaced by glittering cave ceiling.

Though real-life Remiel Calcifet had left Team Rocket with a personal cache of resources at his disposal, intel did not come as quickly or neatly packaged as it once did during his tenure as Admin. This rang particularly true for the intel he was not expressly seeking out. And the shift of his focus was certainly not on the rangers these days.

Though, technically, it was now as he showed annalise henderson understanding with a nod. "I stepped down as Galar's ambassador recently myself," Abandoning Team Rocket as Admin. Practically exiled from his home region by his brother. Dropping his ambassadorship before they dropped him. His life had certainly changed drastically within the last few weeks. "Sometimes it's best to know when to relinquish a position of power."

It only took a meteor to help him see the light.

The visions that surround them in a haze, however, prove to interrupt the conversation at hand. One would think that they would show more panic in a situation like this, but the two remain eerily calm despite it. At least until an alarming hiss echoes down the chamber and puts them on guard.

"I did," Remiel responds, narrowing his eyes upward at the alien forest sky. The clouds shift away slowly to reveal a crescent moon. Though, oddly enough, it bears no light of its own. It appears to be eclipsing another moon's light behind it instead. "Is that..." Normal? Certainly not.

That much is made clear when a draconic yellow eye appears, preceding an aerial swoop down.

"It's headed our way! Zlato, DRAGON PULSE!" The prince commands, stepping forward to shield Annalise and give her the chance to find cover and summon a Pokémon.

the conversation feels very dreamlike, like her mind has conjured up some sympathetic link between her and Remiel Calcifet so she could grapple with her mixed feelings about leaving her head ranger position. [break][break]
it seems too perfect to be talking to someone who also left their big, important role. even more so that he's giving her encouragement that she made the right choice. [break][break]
she follows his gaze towards the moon overhead, blotted out by a shape that stirs a sense of alarm in her. before either of them can speak, the eclipsed figure twists its body and divebombs down towards them.

"wait — " i should be protecting you! [break][break]
he places himself between her and danger, giving her time to crack open one of her pokeballs. her meowstic appears, working quickly to create a shimmering dome of protection around them. the beast strikes the barrier with a roar, allowing annalise a glimpse at it before it flaps back upward toward the sky again. [break][break]
"is that a salamence? in here?"

Zlato's draconic pulse misses, but serves to illuminate the divebombing beast for a split second prior to Annalise's MEOWSTIC fending it off. Remiel's eyes widen with shock (and, soon after, amazement) at the sight of this otherworldly variant. "It's unlike any SALAMENCE I've ever seen..." He remarks, watching as the barrier surrounding them falls before he steps ahead.

"It must have come from the rift... right?" Surely it wasn't a product of his dreams... or, at least, not one he remembers. Looking around, the royal watches as the mist enshrouds all. The large chamber they inhabit disappears and seemingly transforms into a dark forest illuminated by aurora borealis and a crescent moon in the night sky above.

"I need to locate and capture it. Its existence intrigues me, and it could prove to be important to our efforts here." He adds, turning to face Annalise afterward.

there's no known records of salamence that look like that in any ranger document or league file she's been privy to. she's worked with countless salamence during her past agreement with freya morningstar — none of them seemed as large or as feathery, either.

Remiel Calcifet 's desires are unveiled shortly after the beast slips back into the darkness. under normal circumstances, annalise might've balked at him coveting such a rare — endangered? — pokemon for himself but nothing about today, nothing about this place is very routine.

Remiel shares the same reservations that annalise henderson harbours about a rare and possibly endangered species. His conservation efforts for Dragon-type Pokémon, after all, had lead him to build the draciary on ROUTE 115. This was a well-known fact to the Ranger Corps, who sometimes visited the draciary to pick up and transport rehabilitated dragons back to their natural habitats.

Considering the mission at hand, however, and their otherworldly surroundings, the benefits of capturing and studying this bizarre variant outweighed every reason not to. So he nods, pleased with her affirmation. "I do. It won't be easy, but I agree. Baiting it out and ambushing it is our best move." With that, he sends his Poipole out onto a stone platform just ahead before summoning an AERODACTYL with the toss of a Luxury Ball.

As his prehistoric beast soars upward in search of a branch to perch on, the royal continues. "Zlato can draw them out using his Dragon—" But then is rudely interrupted by a pair of screeches as the trees ahead rustle with activity.

Caught by surprise, Zlato is punished with a ZEN HEADBUTT from ROARING MOON 2 and knocked UNCONSCIOUS. ROARING MOON 1, in the meantime, makes a beeline for annalise henderson and her Pokémon.

Thankfully, it doesn't take the prince too long to recall his Poipole and direct OTHNIEL for an interception. "WING ATTACK!" He commands, prompting his aerial terror to swoop in and strike the first Roaring Moon away.

it's a great idea.

or, rather, it was a great idea until the canopy trembles and a pair of them surge into her dreamscape, diffusing the interdream mist with each powerful snap of their wings. one draws up short to clash with Remiel Calcifet 's poipole, but the other tucks its wings and dives at her and her meowstic.

before the psychic-type can put a barrier between them and the oncoming dragon, remiel's aerodactyl swoops in to intervene, leaving annalise to level her attention on the one standing where the poipole had been. it lashes its tail as it approaches the edge of the stone platform, wings spread to take off once more.

her ring sparks with energy as she reaches for another poke ball. as the dragon lunges from the platform, her altaria rushes out to meet it, form bathed in white light as she mega evolves. talons rake across the salamence's back as she flits over its head, attracting its attention away from her trainer.

The prince watches as Annalise prompts her ALTARIA to undergo MEGA EVOLUTION. Hoping to distract their Roaring Moon and grant said Altaria the chance to strike, he summons a LIGHTNING BOLT in his hand and casts it, striking the dragon's wing accurately. The tactic proves successful, and the Altaria lands its attack.

"Agreed!" Remiel calls back to his companion, watching as the enemy Roaring Moon he's dealing with strikes back at his Aerodactyl with a fierce FLAMETHROWER. Thankfully, his prehistoric terror tanks the hit easily. In fact, with Remiel's activation of the TERA ORB charm hanging from his neck, it emerges from the flames as a full-fledged DRAGON of its own. A battle shriek fills the cavern as it hits the opposing dragon with a devastating IRON HEAD.

a light in the corner of her eye pulls her attention away from her altaria, stealing a glance at Remiel Calcifet . she does a double-take at the lightning bolt in his hand, eyes widening.

she follows its arc through the air, watches with a grimace as it sears the salamence's wing in time for her mega altaria to score her claws across its back. it favors the struck wing, flapping its other wing hard to stay airborne, but ends up dropping to the ground in a plume of dust and glittering debris.

"thanks for the help!" she flashes the prince a smile. "how'd you even do that?"

the dragon strikes its tail hard against the earth, rolling onto its stomach with a rumble like distant thunder. even wounded, it gets up without trouble, skittering over stone with its wings tucked. annalise watches it approach, scrambling in a winding path to try and avoid her altaria's dragon pulse attacks. it stumbles each time a blow lands upon its back. [break][break]
she throws a poke ball once it gets uncomfortably close. the capsule splits, swallowing up the dragon in a beam of red light. the ball shakes once, twice —

the beast breaks loose, jaws snapping shut like a spring trap against empty air. annalise is already gone, seated comfortably on the fluff of her altaria's back.

"Of course," Remiel responds, flashing Annalise a small smile back. Her following question might have gotten answered as well, if not for the thunderous sounds of combat that interrupted their moment just then. Remiel is forced to heed his own conflict as Othniel, now terrastallized, takes extra damage from the BREAKING SWIPE of the Roaring Moon's tail before being cast backward.

"Tch... excuse me one moment."

Leaving the former head ranger to her own devices for the time being, the exiled prince shifts aside his poncho to reach into one of his gear packs. From it, he retrieves a small grenade-like object. Sharp cobalt-blue hues scan the territory as the two dragons continue to tussle above. When the moment (and placement) is ripe, he pulls the grenade's pin and lobs it beneath them. "Now Othniel! ROCK SLIDE!"

The cavern surrounding them quivers as a rockslide is summoned to barrage the Roaring Moon, knocking it down from the sky and crashing into the ground below. Just then, the STICKY GLOB grenade that Remiel threw explodes, covering the rock pile and the Roaring Moon alike in a viscous and debilitating substance that prevents movement.

Remiel's Roaring Moon roars angrily as it struggles to free itself.
