"you got it, buddy?"

it's terrible but the uncertainty in annalise henderson gaze that mirrors his own makes him feel just a little bit better knowing that he isn't the only one that's a little bit freaked out by all of this. everyone else in the league seems to take all of this with stride, but he knows that annalise henderson and him are the same.

the horrors of this place start to melt away. even the strange beating grows muted beneath the amusement in their laughter. things are just easier with ollie morales around, more bearable. she feels like she can face anything with him at her side, even a war.

she can almost taste the memory in the back of her throat. she grimaces. [break][break]

"what ground, anna?" he laughs, pointing out the space in front of them. the islands shift and shape, disappearing beneath their feet as they walk. it doesn't matter, because whatever mysterious force that holds this region upright, the one that makes it seem like a metaphorical sea rather than an actual ocean, lets them float freely.

[break][break] he was expecting a silly response from her, but blinks when she offers something real.

[break][break] memories fill his thoughts then, of the first time that he and penny had gotten drunk together. the first time she'd thrown up in a toilet bowl over expired sushi, held her hair up and told her jokes for the entire night. the second time that he'd gotten high off painkillers because he'd bruised his ankle over a ranger mission.

[break][break] ollie didn't really know Greyson Connors that well, but he figured - if there was anyone who could be nice to his friend while she was throwing up on a first date, he must have been a cool guy.

MATIAS SILPH had handed her a ticking bomb, but she's not so carelessly inclined to blowing up relationships like he is. [break][break]

a puff of smoke plumes out on the path ahead, punctured by the gleam of a whistling bullet. her breath catches in her throat as ollie morales pulls her towards him, heart pounding against her ribs long after the threat harmlessly strikes the barrier erected in front of them.

she flinches at the sound of the scatterbang, trembling from the shock of adrenaline surging through her veins.
