Beyond the Primal Rift's border and into the Ultra Deep Sea, the battlefield is vast and largely unexplored. The dangerous mists of the INTERDREAM ZONE further corrupt and confuse their surroundings, twisting and warping them into strange combinations of dream and memory. Around Gavin, the smoke and ash of Kanto thickens the air.[break][break]

It is somewhat easier to manage now that he understands what is happening, straining his mind to focus on his memories of expeditions into the Deep Sea and forcing the landscape to remain largely untainted.[break][break]

His head throbs with the effort of focus, but he cannot break from the chaos.[break][break]

Over a line of communication specific to the ROCKET UNDERBOSSES, he calls, "We've driven the League east. Should fall between your forces for a pincer attack. How goes the battle?"[break][break]

They'd both hear him click his tongue before the line cuts; Theo alone would understand that he was signaling an attack.

The sharp clicks of the tongue popped obnoxiously through the static, followed by a shrill whistle that kept ringing in the underboss's ears. Annoying.[break][break]

"Fine enough on my end," she responded tartly, eyes narrowing as the grunts in front of her saw to a particularly mouthy League soldier that had encroached on their territory. "If a bit tedious."[break][break]

War strategy wasn't her forte, but she'd done her due diligence in reviewing specific formations beforehand and committing them to memory. The pincer attack was simple enough to handle, particularly with the remote coordination, but a faint anxiety nagged at her all the same.[break][break]

She felt a bit out of her depth, though she wouldn't admit it aloud.

Like THEO BECKETT, Gavin feels at home on the battlefield. It is a different experience to be a leader, rather than a follower, but he'd learned enough from the likes of Kanto's brass to hold his own.[break][break]

Though he hears Theo's whistle and knows the attack has commenced from his side of things, Elisabeth offers no confirmation.[break][break]

Annoyance borne of stress and throbbing temples nestles in his mind.[break][break]

It is absent from his tone as he asks, "Elisabeth. Have you sent your soldiers?"[break][break]

He doesn't realise in the heat of the moment that their clicking and whistling would be alien to one so divorced from Kanto's regime. They'd briefed the grunts beneath them on what to expect and how to respond, but not their counterpart.[break][break]

They'd hear Gavin whistle, this time. Theo would recognize the lilt of it, the meaning. Stand down, defend. This to his own swath of soldiers, who shore up their front line to prevent the League from regaining ground, from having a safe place to retreat to when the others collapsed upon them.

Despite Gavin's calm demeanor, the implications of his comment rankled. He'd checked in on her, after all, and not THEO BECKETT.[break][break]

Was this because she was the newest underboss of the organization? He didn't seem the sort to underestimate a woman, but she would be lying if she said that tiny bit of pride wasn't injured in his comment, too.[break][break]

"Of course I sent them out," she snapped back, watching as the battle continued to play out. The whistle meant nothing to her, but she did note that there was a shift in the troops nearest to hers, and it perplexed her. "Pincer formation. Was that not the agreed upon attack?"[break][break]

Unspoken simmered the following complaint: Why are you changing strategies without telling me?

"I am changing no plans. I've driven them between the two of you."[break][break]

Or are you not confident in your own abilities? The petty thought comes unbidden. It was unlike him to sneer at his allies, and he frowns to himself. He shelves the urge, reminding himself that this is her first taste of war.[break][break]

"My forces are in place to ensure there is no retreat. If I were to drive them forward, we'd be leaving the Seal open to attack."[break][break]

Not that they'd been able to find it, yet, on account of the DREAM MIST, but their allies had to be protected during the search.[break][break]

Like THEO BECKETT, he continues to click his tongue in the command of his Pokemon.

Her own POISON BARBS mirrored THEO BECKETT's, their dual-positioning on the battlefield serving to prevent the League from escaping too easily from their clutches.[break][break]

"So it's just me being attacked with a barrage of clicking noises. Lovely," she remarked drily. "Are we sure the League isn't hacking into our headsets with a new form of psychological torture? You should hear it, honestly. It's misery."[break][break]

A sour mood after many hours of battle had left her loose-tongued and full of complaints. She popped her own tongue loudly in mimicry of their clicking, never realizing for a moment they had been intentional signals of behavior.[break][break]

If she had accidentally conveyed some form of tactics with the action, she was utterly oblivious to it.

Tension breaks on Gavin's end as he laughs, finally catching on.[break][break]

It was so second-nature to the two seasoned veterans of Kanto that he hadn't stopped to consider their counterpart's inexperience with their strategies.[break][break]

Like THEO BECKETT, he's unconcerned with making it known. Several of the League have faced him in battle and witnessed his methods first hand.[break][break]

"We came up with it in Kanto."[break][break]

Not wanting to leave her further confused, he says more plainly, "We've crushed those that tried to double back. Apologies about the earache from the Scatterbang, if it was picked up."[break][break]

In contrast to Elisabeth Fiorelli's annoyance, Gavin sounds light of mood. They're early into this battle, and spirits are high. Exhaustion and annoyance for him will come later, when the bloodlust and adrenaline wear down.
