kyle briefly activates his key stone, starting the mega evolution sequence for his lucario. it comes off just in time for the lucario to tank the hit with the boost it gives.

close up, the lucario fires an aura sphere that knocks it back.

"we're the law here!" kyle shouts, head groggy from the nap.

his mental had reset, but so did his efforts to deal from the rift's lingering effects in his head. though he doesn't notice it yet, he'd adjust his act accordingly once it comes to his attention.

[break][break] kyle lopez's aura sphere is effective in knocking the empoleon, who takes the brunt of the damage by flashing it's fins up like a shield. behind him, a trio of piplup sprint out one after the other.

[break][break] they go for ollie this time, combining their forces with a HYDRO PUMP attack.

[break][break] mocha rears up with a LIGHT SCREEN, which protects them for the moment. but eventually, it shatters, taking out his aipom with it. ollie returns the poor monkey, before calling out an attack:

[break][break] pink energy glows around the three piplup, who are suddenly flailing in mid-air. they squeak with indignance, before they're thrown against the empoleon like a sack of flour.

ollie gives him an opening, and kyle is too tired to let it drag on like previous fights. intimidation is sometimes better than a total knock out, if only because it saves him the effort of dealing with the rest of their pokemon, if any.

with what remains in its reserves, the lucario charges up its z-move in a form of a large aura sphere. like a spirit bomb, it grows larger than anticipated before it bursts like a water balloon, aura washing over like waves at the bunched up pokemon

lucario launches a massive AURA SPHERE that also disrupts the senses of those nearby. this affects all five senses.

kyle doesn't take long before he turns back to ollie, perhaps having grown impatient after the disturbed nap he asked for. "it's interrogation time after, right?"

the moment the mega evolution wears off, the exhaustion hits the lucario in waves. alongside the recoil from its earlier steel beam, it falls to the ground. kyle recalls the pokemon to rest.

"i'm not really an expert on interrogation, but i watched a few films about it."

most of them don't really show the usual way of doing them, with many movies doing an exaggerated version where it was lowkey unethical. he cracks his knuckles as he prepares before turning to ollie.

"they just beat them up, right?"

the suggestion makes so much more sense. it always escapes him that a wyrdeer is a psychic-type, especially since it's one of the newer pokemon discovered.

even if the pokemon wasn't a psychic-type, he'd probably forget about any other options. he really needed a rest, but the day was still long and there are still jobs to be done.
