Kouji jumped up, the cold chill of a ghost type using its move overtook him, and made his hair stand on edge as he jumped up to his feet. This was one of the underbosses, maybe he was luckier than most to run into them, but at the same time…

That didn’t mean he could claim anything special for himself, he was just a rookie that had gotten lucky, that was all. ”Here to aid, sir. Here’s the package.” He said as he handed it out, unsure of just how to handle this person, maybe an introduction? ”I’m Kouji Matsubara.”

Hopefully, that was all that would be needed of him, but he knew better; he had another job after this one. To scramble communication lines properly.

Kouji raised his eyebrows for a moment, but then nodded at the introduction; it was a strange thing for him, but at the same time it was appreciated; a small smile on his face. But that went the moment the inside of the rift was mentioned.

”No, SIr.” He said the words rather simply. ”I’ve been busy between deliveries, and intervention, there’s been no time, and also no reason for me to go inside yet.” He gave his answer in a straight forward manner, the day had been brutal, and it wouldn’t end anytime soon.

He had gotten his hands dirty, bloody, and he was sure that by the end of all of this, the smell of blood that had stuck itself onto him would only get stronger. But that was fine, it was why he had joined in the first place. ”Do you need me to go inside?” He asked.

”Understood.” He said with a nod, before he noticed the footsteps; they would have to step through the rift. But he hadn’t expected it, the shock was pretty big to begin with, but at the same time he went for his pocket; wondering whether his pocket knife or his pokeball would be better before he decided to settle on the pokeball. They were in the thick of it soon enough, but he also didn’t know if he could deal with that many people.

Maybe if he sacrificed his team for the sake of a violent human victory, but that wasn’t worthwhile, he would just have to believe in Gavin. ”Sir, here to back you up. On foot, I don’t think I can run away with pokemon moves in the mix. I think we should just wipe them out, and then we can carry on the movement of…” He said as he held the box in one hand, but the other was in his pocket, picking between the two.

If it came down to it, he’d rely on his pokemon who was wielding a sword of its own, Absol. At the end of the day, Kouji was someone who really only knew how to solve his problems with violence.

Kouji hadn’t expected things to end up in such a way, but he didn’t mind it in the end, with league trainers it had always been a matter of going with things in a more straight forward manner, a fight was fine. In fact, it was his mode of operations, he bounced on his heels even as tired as he was. It looked like he was going to take a boxing stance for a moment, but he simply took out the pokeball of his and threw it out; revealing Absol, and another for Weavile. The two looked just as ready to fight as he did.

Still, there were the signs of wear on them, bruises and scratches; even patches of red on Absol’s fur from the earlier battles of that day. It looked like neither was going to be too effective, at least until Absol took the forward step. Scraggy protected Kouji’s back.

The white furred pokemon looked smug for a moment before rising up on his rear legs, and doing a spin on spot, it was a strange thing until he waved his tail at the Vikavolt, mocking it; taunt. ”Good boy, now then. Leave the Cloyster trainer to me sir, I’ll deal with it.” He’d take that pokemon for himself and his team, but he kept his eyes peeled to assist at any single moment.

That was what should have happened at least, until Absol’s eyes flashed grey for a moment, detect going off allowing it to leap up as a pulse of draconic energy rocked the floor it was standing on just a moment ago, leaving a crater in place.

Kouji didn’t have time for the dragon though, he wasn’t suited to fighting that right now. ”Hey, Absol; ignore ‘em.” Cloyster, he’d just have to leave it to Gavin to watch his back and vice versa.

In the meantime, he looked for an opportunity to get to the trainers.

Kouji knew things would be bad if they were held down here, but at the same time, he was the pawn in the fight, the throwaway piece. If needed, he could be left behind, he had done the same with his troupe back in those days, when the odds were stacked against them, being a leader meant prioritizing yourself. So that was why, he took the actions he did; showing his thumb to Gavin, as a sign that he was confident in the next action he was going to take.

Absol had a better time of it, shaking his head side to side, he sharpened his blade, but that was enough time for a shell smash, a powerful move if anything as the Cloyster was freed from his shell, but what followed was a terrible barrage. A flash of the future, a glimpse of what could be to come, Absol used the move detect as a series of rapid fire icicle spears were shot towards him, each one narrowly missing him as he tried to close the distance, shearing his fur and sailing past only to impact at the back walls with explosive force.

Without a shell, what had usually been a slow pokemon had gotten far faster, dashing up and around him; but he was stronger now. He could feel it, the moment in which the attack would come, he would dive in before hand, a waiting game between the two, but it wasn’t just the two of them battling.

Kouji backed away from the fight, sneaking into the shadows, he knew he was being watched by one of them, but at the same time; he was looking for the trainers themselves. He placed his box, the one he was charged with, behind a rock. He knew that was a risk, probably too big, but there were three trainers, the rift was right there, and he had to fight now.

Scurrying in the shadows of the battle, keeping himself close to the walls and the shadows, he could see the three trainers at the very least. A vantage point, away from the battle, he would have to cross through the most dangerous part, the center of the cavern in order to reach them.

The question was, would he get an opening?

Kouji had to stifle his laugh, or any sound even as he pressed himself against the wall, they had a plan; he left the final nod to Absol; he knew it’d know just what to do, and for that, he scrambled back to safety in a sense, drawing himself closer and closer to the backwalls of the cavern until the moment he was beneath where he had heard the voices, pressed flat, and looking up, it was a dangerous idea really, now, where could he get the boost he needed.

The battle between Absol and Cloyster was a constant one, icicle spears were met with a psycho-cut that slashed through two, but exploded out equally on the third; it was a wave that passed through the room, it was a series of strong attacks, and the Cloyster was also significantly faster than him now.

Its eyes landed behind the Cloyster, landing on the finger of his trainer before repeating the same move twice over, two Psycho cuts that sailed past the Cloystery who had followed it up with an Ice-Shard, a move that hit Absol square, it was a strike that had impaled itself on his shoulder, but it was a worthwhile sacrifice.

As for Kouji, he had no choice but to dodge the attack sent towards him, which cut into the rock face, and provided a series of steps up. He pressed himself flat against the floor, and held his breath within the dust cloud that had formed.
