Having said this, Elisabeth took one of the bread loaves in hand, a knife delicately cutting a piece for herself. The silver gleamed in the ambient light of the restaurant before she discarded it, soaking the slice of white bread in the oil.[break][break]

"If I don't look out for my own interests," she continued, her voice calm despite the intensity that flashed in her gaze, "then who will?"[break][break]

She took an unhurried bite of the roll, giving him space for his response.
