"A second chance at life is no gift, either. Aren't you still burdened with the same regrets?" she asked, her emerald eyes narrowing to thin slits as they beheld him. "What have you done since living, that has made circling in your purgatory worth it?"[break][break]

At this point, the origin of her drunken emotion was irrelevant. The bitterness coursed through her, tinged with a grief that she didn't know how to name.[break][break]

His calm demeanor infuriated her further as she froze mid-step, whirling about to face him again. She searched for the right words to pierce through him, like a blade seeking a place to slide between the ribs.[break][break]

"Did he kill you?" she blurted out finally, voicing her silent suspicion aloud. "Is that what this is about?"[break][break]

but she has a point: he has done nothing since his return. he has only been floating with nothing to anchor him down. at least not yet.

his composure falters just a little at the mention of FERNANDO SILPH even if their name remains unspoken.

Is there? She'd wanted to believe that, once.[break][break]

She'd taken those first steps of freedom in Hoenn and felt such thrill at being able to own her own home, to have her own solitude, to meet people who didn't immediately judge her for who they thought her to be.[break][break]

That joyful wonder had been short-lived, as all joys were. Reality settled in the cracks of the fantasy her wishful thinking had created. Men remained monsters. Life remained hollow and unfulfilled. Those who proclaimed to care for you secretly held conditions for that love, and would withhold them from you until you learned, too late, what they were.[break][break]

If there was more to living than spite, maybe she'd simply lost the ability to know what it was to be contented. Maybe happiness simply eluded her.[break][break]

"If you find what makes life worth living, then," she said, turning her back on him, "be sure to share the secret of it with me. I cannot say I have ever found an answer that satisfies me."
