That little Remoraid was handing out some heavy hits, much to the Rockets' disbelief and chagrin. They'd been so focused on the bigger threats that they'd just let Lucky shoot at their weak spots! It just went to show that it wasn't just about size and raw strength.

[break][break]Jett was calm and confident, even as the Steelix rushed toward him. He trusted Julia to have his back, and she wasn't about to let him down.

[break][break]"Chester, Lazuli, go!"

[break][break]Again, Chester ran forward, launched himself high into the air, and landed a Jump Kick square on the Steelix. The Iron Snake Pokémon came to a stop with an annoyed growl and turned to face Julia's team... just in time for Lazuli's Water Pulse to hit it square in the face. Its tough hide made physical attacks like Chester's little more than a nuisance, even with his Swords Dance boost, but the Water-type attacks being thrown at it seeped through the cracks.

[break][break]"Come on, Steelix!" its trainer shouted. "You're tougher than these guys! Show them what you've got!"

[break][break]The Steelix raised its head high and let out a metallic-sounding roar, the metal scraps around it spinning faster. The ground beneath Lazuli rumbled and cracked, then erupted with a Stone Edge. She sang out a low, weak note, and then her long neck drooped as her eyes slid shut. Julia quickly returned the fainted Lapras to her Ball.

[break][break]But, once again, the Steelix had made the mistake of turning its back to Jett and Lucky.

Jett didn’t release a sigh of relief, he’d decided to place trust in the person he had only known for less than a day. A strange choice, but it paid off; now that she and her pokemon had bought them that moment, that time; it was only natural to pay them back properly. His Remoraid was calm, he felt calm, and with all of that.

”Ice Beam.” Simple words, Jett instructed Lucky, who did as told, a streak of a blast, a thing one, but even so. The air around it froze as it shotforward, taking advantage of the water-type attacks that had seeped into the cracks, the gaps, and suffused it so.

The icebeam struck; ice began to spread across the Steelix, and that ice expanded, it could move if it so wanted to, it wasn’t frozen, but it was a matter of pain, difficulty, and more importantly, teamwork. The Steelix released a roar as it thrashed around for a moment before it stilled, a white flash took over it and it had returned back to its original form.

”I recommend you guys run away, get your pokemon healed.” Jett said as he looked at the rocket men.
[break][break]
”...We won’t let it end like this…” The grunt spoke as a red light fell on the fallen steelix before it was drawn back into its pokeball, Jett had no interest in pursuing them, and neither did his pokemon.
[break][break]
”Looks like that’s our win huh? Though, these caves are crawling with them, so we should keep a wary eye out.” The fight had been completed, but that had taken a lot; mega evolution, what a frustrating phenomenon.

It was becoming increasingly more common across the region, something that had been rather rare to begin with. So how would he be able to deal with it in the future? Would it have to be something he had to take a deeper look at?

When the Steelix went down, Jett told the Rocket grunts to run away and get their Pokémon healed. Julia grinned, proud of their victory and glad to have someone like Jett on her side. He was proving more and more that he wasn't just some mean tough guy, despite his looks. Julia thought that was cooler than if he had lived up to his appearance.

[break][break]"Hey, you can't just—!" the other grunt called after her partner. "Grr! We'll be back! Wait up, you coward!" After shooting that not-so-threatening threat at Jett and Julia, she ran after the other Rocket.

[break][break]Julia turned her grin to Jett. "Yeah! That was awesome!" Well, minus Lazuli fainting, of course. Julia would have to Revive the poor girl once they were back to safety. Still, they'd taken down two Mega Pokémon and chased those grunts off, and that was enough for Julia to celebrate.

[break][break]Jett was right: Those two probably wouldn't be the only ones. "If they all make entrances like that, they shouldn't be too hard to spot," she said with a playful smirk. Ah, humor, one of the best coping mechanisms known to man.

[break][break]Chester cawed quietly, one of his heads nudging the saddlebags that now sat on the cavern floor. "We'd better get this stuff back on track," Julia said. Oblivious to Jett's inner frustrations, she hoisted the saddlebags back into place and made sure their contents hadn't been disturbed in the scuffle. They needed a little readjusting, but other than that, the supplies had avoided the brunt of the battle.

[break][break]"If we weren't carrying so much stuff, I'd say we could run the rest of the way."

”We can take it quieter throughout the cave, there’s a lot of paths, and I knew a few boys back in Dewford I used to run a bit crazy with back in my hay day.” Jett said with a smirk as they rode. ”Not like these Rockets are quiet.”

Jett was certain of one thing though, they’d be able to handle anything short of a beast comfortably, she was skilled, and he was confident in his own skills. Looking forward to it, he let Cyclizar begin to roll forward again; a silent howl, a soundless sound, it was an action that showed his being.

Different from the machine aided sounds Bubby had made, it was his true voiceless voice. ”Huh? Ain’t ya speaker working?” He said as he patted the top of his head, "I’ll get that fixed up when we get to a base of some kinda base, okay bubby?” He said as he began to ride forward.

”We can go at a good pace to run through these hallways, and back too; so we’ll be fine. I’m confident in us.” It was boundless confidence he did not feel, but he could pretend, just as he always did.

Julia hadn't realized that Bubby sounded different from other Cyclizar. Maybe she'd just thought the cave was distorting his voice. Either way, Jett's mention of his speaker caught Julia's attention. She didn't ask about it, though, knowing that asking about the origin of a disability was, to put it one way, rude as heck.

[break][break]Instead, she focused on their plan for getting through the caves. "Yeah, definitely! It'd just be more fun if we could race there or something." A childish wish, to be sure, but Julia needed that levity to shake off the remnants of her anxiety.

[break][break]Regardless of the cargo weighing them down, they found a good pace to go through the caverns at. Julia and Chester were both much more alert this time, three of their four combined heads looking out for any signs of Rocket activity while Chester's middle head focused on the road ahead.

[break][break]It was almost a shame that they didn't run into any more Rockets on the way to the rift. It would have been fun to see the looks on their faces when they realized they'd been spotted. Oh, well. Not running into Rockets was always a good thing.

Jett didn’t disagree, his jovial laughter echoed in that cavern for a moment; it echoed loudly for a little while before he stopped. ”Aye, that’d be fun. We’ll race on the way back, I’m sure Chester and Bubby will enjoy getting to cut loose after carrying all these heavy bags.” He said as he looked out, it was indeed quiet; the path was meandering, and it was working out well, right until they had reached the end of this pathway.

It was a wide cavern, guards were the first to see them, and he wasn’t the official league person, but he showed a card, and a scan later, they were good to go. ”We’ll go to depot D, just on the left. These runs are common, and Rocket’s been harassing a few of them from what I hear.”

That was their little excursion almost done, almost complete, and yet; the rest of the day ahead of them remained.
