"What? You think you're weak?" Temp scoffs at the thought. But he doesn't mock Gavin for it. Doesn't laugh at him.[break][break]

"Babe, we've been beating ass all day. I know for a fact you were exhausted even before you started fighting that one-eyed freak." Temp tries to appeal to Gavin's more logical side to try and pull him out of his own mental muck.[break][break]

"If I was about to pass out and some guy beat the fuck out of me, would you be embarrassed I lost? I wouldn't be! I would be pissed the guy didn't give me a fair shot to break his jaw!"

Temp attempts to battle his demons with logic; it would work, most of the time, but these roots are entrenched far deeper than his husband knows. Tugging at them will only reveal the depths to which they plunge into his person.[break][break]

"It's not just him," he insists, speaking of Raziel. "Dross and Vestri, too. And I ran into Lopez when we split up before. I had to sacrifice one of my shadows to escape."[break][break]

Bitterness floods his tone. His shadows were his strength. Without them, what was he? Weak, as Raziel had proved.[break][break]

The day had not consisted only of losses. There were gains, too, but it was hard to find pride in them beyond the oppressive weight of defeat.

While Temp prides himself on his power he knows he can't stand up, alone, to legends. The sheer power they had was epic. That didn't mean Temp wouldn't raise his fists and fight gods- but it put him at a disadvantage.[break][break]

Lopez Temp couldn't speak on. While he had met the man a few times he had never directly went against him. He was the Champion, though. It wasn't unreasonable to believe he was extremely powerful...[break][break]

"Nothing about you is weak." Temp whispered, fiery. He tried to pepper kisses against the shell of Cillian Quinn's ear.[break][break]

"I walked with you in your mind. None of them could have survived what you went through, Cill."[break][break]

More important, to Temp at least, was Gavin's mental strength. Gavin had so much working against him. So much trying to tear him down. Yet he stood tall despite it all. Not unchanged or even unflinching; but ready to keep moving forward.

The moment they'd impacted the water was the moment it had ceased to be fun for Gavin. It had turned into a desperate fight for survival, one that he might not have pulled through had it not been for his husband.[break][break]

Lugia had been trying, too. He knew that. Had felt her weakening the whirlpool's force against him. But what if it hadn't been enough?[break][break]

Gavin's lip trembles as Temp whispers into his ear.[break][break]

"Raziel did." He spits the words in disgust. "That's his name. Not Raziel Beckett. Raziel Pryde. Dr. Pryde's son."[break][break]

He's sure Tempest Quinn can piece the rest together without further input from Gavin. The Head Scientist's missing arm, the horrible burns that marred the Ranger's face. He had been through Kanto, too. Survived it, too.[break][break]

And Gavin loathed the idea that Raziel had come out stronger than him.
