It begins

Post Dormitum Mission: Cave, vs. Kouji Matsubara

Guard duty wasn't glamorous, nor bound to get a great many accolades. He suspected he might've pissed someone off, to end up there while the shit went down inside the ultra space.

With so many alternate entrances that didn't require the effort of fighting off the league, it was almost surprising just how much action the rotating gallery of league guardsmen had seen in the past hour.

Which was why, when one of his sergeants failed to report in with an update, he did not wait before searching for them himself.

Given he circumstances, he shouldn't have been surprised at the scene he came to find them in.

And yet.

"!" His breath caught in his throat as he reached the area, finding his sergeant flat on the floor, his pokemon strewn around the area like broken dolls.

And an unknown, unmasked, and very armed stranger standing over them.

His hand flew for the gun at his side, jaw tensing as he shouted.

"Don't move!" He shouted as his digits barely touched the firearm.

Just as his battle had come to an end; his knife arm extended; the slash completed; the disgusting feeling of a knife against a throat, the pumping of blood inside his ears, the beating of his chest, it was all sickening. But he had completed those movements because they were ingrained of him, expected of him. Well, not expected by everyone, a shout that told him to not move.

Kouji had been on this end a few times in his life, but it was rarely in such a disadvantageous case; he didn’t smile, he didn’t smirk; his knife had been wetted; but his arms went directly for the man’s shoulder. ”Gotcha, gotcha. I’ll just hug him real well and good.” Why had he chosen those words? Was he really going to piss off someone else who could hand him his ass today?

It looked like it, but it wasn’t a simple matter of pride. It was simply how he was, cheeky, using another body as a shield. ”Who’re you? This guy’s friend? How about dropping that gun of yours? Or do you want to confirm this kill for me?” A series of questions that he didn’t care for any answers for. He looked at the pistol over the man’s shoulder, his forearm was getting covered in the slippery blood.

”So, how about a battle?” He had just completed one, and yet here came another.

Post Dormitum Mission: Cave, vs. Kouji Matsubara

The usual irritation that followed a lack of recognition didn't even register. In the face of his friend's corpse being used as a meat shield, there was only the building fury in his gut.

"Are ya touched in the head?" The youth said with eyes wide, the veins around his temples throbbing as his digits slowly became white around his gun.

'How about a battle?'?!

"Fuck you!" He shouted, teeth grit as he slowly moved the pistol towards the other's face.

No matter how good a shot he might've been however... it still ran the risk of damaging the corpse. The thought alone...

"Yer gonna rot in a cell, bastard!" Hissed the youth as he palmed and threw out a pokeball, it flying into the air, it arcing towards the murderous youth. It popped open as it soared, releasing a white silhouette that swiftly took a yellow form— "Reeven, Hypnosis!"

The Drowzee flipped in the air and turned its gaze towards the other youth as it brandished its arms on either side, weaving them mysteriously as it attempted to put the other youth on his ass.

Kouji nodded at the choice. ”Alright, you’re up Absol.” He sent out his ace, his partner, Absol himself. The pokemon jumped out into a blaze of Red light, he was physically strong, stronger than most he’d ever met, but even then; holding up a limp body with one hand was hard; a struggle, that was why he ducked as he threw out that pokeball.

Still, the waves of Hypnosis, the feeling of being forced to sleep; the heaviness of his eyelids. He moved his pokeball back into his pocket right before he stabbed his knife into his leg. It wasn’t deep, but the pain was high enough to keep him awake, to shock him out of that feeling. ”Use Psycho-Cut.” He told his pokemon, so that the feeling didn’t come back.

The black horn of the pokemon began to glow pink just before it shot off a cutting blade through the air in an arc. As it traversed the space, it began to scrape against the floor; flicking up dust, and dirt as it made its way towards the Drowzee.

As for Kouji, he went for the corpses’ waist, the holstered gun before he removed the safety. He didn’t like guns, would never like guns, but he was confident. ”We’ll have our stand off while our pokemon battle, huh? Can’t say I like a Paldean Stand-off much, but let’s do it.” The body dropped to the ground unceremoniously.

Post Dormitum Mission: Cave, vs. Kouji Matsubara

The Drowzee threw up its arms and clenched its teeth as it tanked the sharp blows, landing heavily back onto the ground. Type resistance was all that prevented the fight from ending immediately.

"Ya think so?" Doug said ominously to the other young man's reply, looking surprisingly unfazed.

Wary of the pokemon before it, the Drowzee inhaled suddenly before ejecting without warning a large cloud of poisonous gas— a curtain to hide from the Absol's dangerous gaze. And also, coincidentally, creating a dangerous visual barrier between the two young men.

One that the soldier clearly thought nothing of as he sprinted right through it, emerging from the curtain without warning at full tilt. If he was worried about getting shot (or being poisoned), it certainly did not show.

Kouji couldn’t help but grin once he saw the man run down for him, the poisonous cloud was certainly a problem, for Kouji, not for his Absol; who used another Psycho Cut to create a visual space, as if the explosive force of it crashing against the ground directly would part it in front of him.

But that was fine. ”Ahaha, you’re insane.” Yet it was he who was laughing, the sound of footsteps; the wonder of when he’d come out, maybe…It was better to rush in too, ignoring the pain of his leg, he charged into the smoke cloud, a gun in one hand, his knife in the other. He dived into the cloud of smoke, his breath being held.

A fight, that was what he sought, and that was what he was going to get. There was no time for voices, if the man was taking the shortest path towards him, and if he was coming from that direction, then the moment to meet would be right there, just before the middle, and Kouji knew that, so he threw his gun forward, he didn’t need a weapon he wasn’t fully trained in.

The knife he’d been using for as long as he could walk would be fine.

Post Dormitum Mission: Cave, vs. Kouji Matsubara

His choices were not making much sense. He should've known better than to let his anger cloud his judgement, but he hadn't witnessed such flagrant, dismissive regard towards a stolen life in some time; maybe he had grown sensitive towards it.

The murderer before him resembled what he had believed dorian westcliff to be; a man he despised more strongly than anything. Perhaps that was why...

More than anything, he wanted to pummel his face until he was as scared as the man he had murdered had felt.

They meet in the middle of the cloud, neither bothering with detours in their bee line for an ass whooping.

At some point, Doug had completely given up on actually shooting the gun, his tight hold having been switched from the grip to the barrel proper, wielding it more like an improvised hammer as he immediately tried to pistol whip the unknown youth across the face the moment he came within sight.

"You're one to talk."

The gun made contact with his forearm; it felt as if his bones were creaking; even if it wasn’t broken, he would be feeling that one for a long time; but Kouji was completely fine with it. He could feel all of it.

It felt great, this was a fight, someone taking him on in a fight between two men.

It couldn’t get better than this.
[break][break]
But here he was, in the midst; in the cloud of poisonous gas that was being dissipated in that moment, just before he slashed upwards with his knife, a move to create space, as well as getting a knick onto his opponent, before he went to dive low, bending his knee, sliding his foot foreward, and trying to invade his opponent’s space.

The target was the legs.

”Ahahaha…Yeah, well, looks like we’re a match made in heaven then.”

Post Dormitum Mission: Cave, vs. Kouji Matsubara

He clicked his tongue his swing was stopped short, his advanced halted by the other youth as the poisonous cloud was suddenly whipped away.

A knife flew in an upward arch, meant to create space and an opening for the other to take him to the mat.

Instead, it dug into uniform and flesh as the soldier refused (or was perhaps too slow) to move out of the way, his hand instead coming down sharply to grip at the other's wrist as the knife dug in, trying to stop it from going any deeper.

"Hck! Tch... Bit- bit painful for heaven, don'tcha think?" He grunted as he held onto the other's wrist, keeping his grip tight.

Kouji couldn’t laugh much, he looked at the hand that gripped his hand; it was a tight grip that held him down into place, what a tactic. ”Guys gotta know pain to feel heaven, don’tcha know?” He said as he struggled against it for a moment before he suddenly stopped, his footwork was switched as he bent his elbow, bent his knees, and then charged forward with a shoulder charge.

This was fine; as long as he could unbalance the man enough not to be shot, he was happy with this kind of arrangement.

Unfortunately, Doug had no way of nailing his feet to the floor. The moment the other threw his weight into him, shoulder ramming into his chest as charged, he found his feet leaving the ground.

There were several things he could've done. Throwing an arm around the other's head and trying to clamp onto his hair as he was toppled was probably not a great idea, his gun flying off his grip and landing elsewhere as he landed with a wheeze underneath the other, now gripping onto hair and wrist.

Something about this tactic... didn't quite add up.

"Hah... Hah... Say— Do you know how cancer works?"

A ground attack, he had his hair being gripped; so Kouji did the best thing he could; force his thumb into the armpit of his opponent, and then twist it. Into the nook to free his hair; losing an arm to this was fine, he just needed one.

To free his hair, to get the leverage in order to kneel and cross his feet behind him in order to lock those legs down. ”I don’t really need the brains to know I’ll die or not, it’ll happen when it happens. What about it, tryna kill me?” He said with a smirk.

"Fair enough... " He said, gritting his teeth as he felt the other's youth encroaching hand. Best to finish things before things got even worse for him. "I'm just gonna let the next part be a surprise, then."

Suddenly, the soldier's pitch black eyes glowed unnaturally, a rich magenta staring back at the other as what might've been mistaken earlier as his mere grip became alien, the scales he had been subtly letting into the other's skin before now coming out in full force, pushing the ones already inside into action.

"Sorry 'bout this— But yer comin' with me."

Kouji screamed; it was the first time that day he let out that sound; but as blood gushed from the top of his head, across his knife holding arm; which dropped that same knife…It was a pain, a strange sensation he hadn’t felt before. ”What the hell are you talking about! The fuck is this?” He shouted, the pain was too much; it was too high, his muscles tensed; his jaw tightened.

But he regained some of his senses as the initial pain began to move out of his head, as he regained his senses. His hand continued its movement, to get the thing out of his way. ”Goddamn. What the fuck is that? Who the hell are you?” Why couldn’t he do the same thing? Was it a secret martial art? Was it a unique power that one could only be born with.

He didn’t know but he hated it.

”Fuck it…You’ve got your tricks, and I’ve got mine.” And so he bit, through the clothes, and tried to go for the skin.
