It was a matter of pride now, he was locked in; his teeth stuck onto the man, and he bit only harder. The pain was huge, it was great; it spread across his body as the scales got into him. Everything, every part of him was hurting, but that was fine…

A muffled scream as he bit down only harder; he was going to force himself further; biting down made him ignore the pain for a moment even as his teeth threatened to crack, even as his gums and the inside of his mouth began to bleed; even as blood covered his eyes.

He would stay biting down even if he died, and if he tore off flesh, he’d bite some more, that was Kouji’s idea, even as his mind went red, even as his consciousness threatened to fade, even as he felt himself losing sight of the reason behind any and all of this. Because…

It begins

Post Dormitum Mission: Cave, vs. Kouji Matsubara

Maybe there was a reason cliches were cliches. Pride cometh 'fore the fall, and what not.

The hand on the other young man's hair tightened like a vice as John's agonized screams turned to swallowed growls, his teeth clamping down into a furious, determined scowl.

With only a moment of preparation, he went and just ripped off the bandaid.

"AAAAAAAARGH!!!" He screamed as he yanked on Kouji's head and tore off his parts of his own flesh, running on adrenaline and spite as then shoved dropped back and attempted smash the young man's face onto the pavement with his weight!

Kouji hadn’t expected his hair to be ripped back, his teeth had taken a chunk of flesh but he ungripped in a moment as he felt his teeth being tugged against the clothes; his mind was in pain, his body was in pain, but he felt his head hit against the hard, cave floor. It was something he could see something through that pain.

He yanked his arm back, as bloody as his entire body had been, and wrapped it around his opponent’s waist, turning at his waist; pressing his butt against the floor, and setting them into a rollout against the uneven floor; the slide that led to a lower level, a constant role in which he sought to get himself free.

”How the fucking hell are you doing all of this?” His annoyance was too loud, too apparent, too present. But he felt it churning in him, the emotion was absurd, and the taste of blood in his mouth was too much.

It begins

Post Dormitum Mission: Cave, vs. Kouji Matsubara

His breath refused to even out as they rolled down an uneven path, stubbornly maintaining his grip on the other youth until they ran into a wall— unfortunately, with him first.

As his hands slid off Kouji's hair, it as slick with blood as seemingly everything else, he tried to instead kick the youth away if he couldn't keep him in place, panting hard.

Doug could only offer a pained smirk as the at the other's frustration.

"What, you new or something?" He said as he pressed his back against the wall and tried to stumble back up to his feet.

If the young man found that vexing, he would probably not like the fact that the chunk of flesh he had ripped out of the John's chest was visibly regenerating as he spoke either.

"Did you skip the rocket primer or somethin'?"

Kouji gritted his teeth as he was kicked away, they were seperate, a bundle of blood, he was pressed against a rock outcropping. ”Look, this is my first mission, I’m still in the middle of training…I’m just a lot better at fighting than most of the rest.” He said with annoyance as he looked at Doug, his eyes fixed onto the man as he did so; he didn’t mind any of it really, but at the same time.

He felt unprepared everytime he ran into one of these wackos.

The ones who could do things that one like himself couldn’t dream of, was it really something beyond absurdity? Beings of legend, for a boy who had been taken out of school forcefully at 13, the start of his teenage years…

Complicated matters were not for him, he was raised to kill, to take his father to the heights of rocket, and then, he had ended his father’s entire career with his own two hands, twice over. ”It doesn’t matter anyway, just tell me what the hell you are?” He said as he looked at the man.

Post Dormitum Mission: Cave, vs. Kouji Matsubara

"Tch. Just my luck." Doug muttered as he spat some blood aside, feeling the inside of his cheek slowly seal together. "Rolled me a baby Rocket Beast... Gotta nip this bud early."

The information was so widely available to just about anyone who lived in Hoenn, under any normal circumstances, Doug would've just told the other youth with some minor exhasperation.

As things were—

"I don't fucking know, ask your cellmate when you wake up!" Doug hissed as he pushed off the wall, his injury now fully healed. It was becoming very clear that even if Kouji was the better, grittier fighter—

The youth before him could quite literally 'do this all day'.

Kouji forced himself to his feet; hisses and grunts followed the movement. ”Tch, you’re a monster.” The baby rocket beast, the goal; he had aimed to be a sword of rocket since his inception, he had been forced to be a sword of rocket since the day he was born. His mind was set; ideas such as ‘surviving’ had never been on his mind, he was a simple star that would burn himself out.

”I can do this…As long as you want.” He said as he raised his fists, his blood covered fists; the fists he could barely see through the red haze of his eyes. He looked forward at his opponent, his breathing was harsh; heavy.

They were heavy, his blood dripped into the floor; it was a constant flow.

But he stepped forward regardless, to join in the fight once more; he threw all of himself and more into the fray; his fists charged, his eyes red, and adrenaline giving him a small boost.

His blood pumping yet again, the youth squeezed his fists tight and raised them up, taking a single step towards the other youth.

And stopping.

What... the hell was he doing?

Was he really squaring up against a single rocket newbie like he was fighting Cillian Quinn himself? Wasting time and letting his temper and anger get the better of him?

With all the time he had wasted getting into a scrap with this guy, who knew how many rockets had managed to sneak past the blockade and into the cracks by now...?

Yet again, he felt the anger in his gut, coalescing with his rage at the youth before him. He had killed a friend, gotten the better of him, and possibly made him fail in his mission...

Enough.

"No." There wasn't enough time in this day to go easy on a murderer.

"You can't."

He would just have to survive this on his own.

Kouji stared at the pink glow that coalesced around that fist, so this was how he was going to die huh? ”Won’t know till I tr-” He felt a force at the back of his collar pull him, before he found himself soaring through the air and then touching back on the ground; the stone at his feet was his megastone, embedded wtihin his knife from before.

”A-Absol?” He seemed surprised, but the pokemon snarled as it charged forward; past the Drowzee; his horn glowed the deepest of black before he dived like a Peregrin falcon, rotating as he aimed for the weakest point of his opponent, his neck. Uncaring of the injured trainer of his he swung around within his maw.

Post Dormitum Mission: Cave, vs. Kouji Matsubara

"Da hell do you think yer going?!" Snapped the youth as his opponent was suddenly whisked away, eyes wide and furious as he tracked the killer and his mega evolved pokemon with his eyes, his tight fist turning into a finger-gun as he attempted to shoot them down, shooting them with concentrated scales.

They all missed their mark, the pokemon too fast and agile for the youth to sharp-shoot, specially at such a distance.

Wait— where was Reeven? Eyes wide and a cold sweat dripping down his neck, the gaze swiveled across his cavernous surroundings with fear in his chest, the thumping of his heart briefly stilling as he finally found his pokemon.

Reeven had been outmatched even before the Absol mega evolved. The fact was clear as day in the way it barely hung to consciousness, its body brutalized by the encounter with the other trainer's ace. Yet another mistake from Doug; a failed attempt at ending combat before it even began had turned into a match the Drowzee couldn't possibly win.

Doug felt guilt and self-loathing well up in his heart, as his teeth crashed together in an anguished grit, his fist tightening briefly before he lifted it in a rush, pointing his healing scales towards the Drowzee.

He could still fix this!

Bang!

The scales flew towards his injured pokemon— and striked right at its chest, sinking underneath its skin. Relief flooded Doug's senses as he saw cuts and bruises begin to hea—

Swish!

Couldn't well heal a missing head, could it? He had learned that all the way back in Sea Hoenn, courtesy of King Kazimir Wynter .

Couldn't hurt to try.

"REEVEN!" Screamed the youth as he sprinted towards his decapitated pokemon, horrified.

Kouji gritted his teeth as he was doused in blood; he could tell in a moment. His opponent was beyond pissed off; the shots that were fired, the deadly, terrible, shots. He could tell in a moment, if he were to be hit by one of those, he would die.

”Tch. Guess we’re out, I don’t want to fight after that one. Let’s leave.” Absol nodded as it jumped across the space, rock to rock; with his trainer firmly held in his mouth. There was no sounds for a moment, right until the opening of a cave passage, towards a rift.

”Oi, I’m Kouji Matsubara, what’s your name?” His pokemon halted for a moment, as if wondering what the point behind such a thing was. For a creature without a name, these introductions made no sense to him.

But for Kouji, it meant a lot. He would fight this person again, at some point, some day, just not this day, not anymore.

His body ached, his consciousness swam, and yet he forced himself awake, to hold strong for just a little longer as he waited…For an answer.

Post Dormitum Mission: Cave, vs. Kouji Matsubara

Nope, nope, nope, putting body and head together was not working. Why were his powers like this? Why couldn't it be like Lopez'? Was it his fault? Should he have trained? Studied medicine?

”Oi, I’m Kouji Matsubara, what’s your name?”

Kouji should've perhaps read the mood better. One could almost hear the snap in the back of the soldier's head, his wide eyed scowl turning to look the young killer in the eyes.

"FUCK YOU!!!"

He blasted forth one last shot of scales, as many as he could put in that single moment of fury, giving into his anger yet again.

It was big, the shout; the throw, and the lead up to it, all of them, together, were far too big to be missed. But Kouji couldn’t help but sigh, it was a shame but then again that was war; you only needed to be on opposite sides to be enemies, and he had done far more than just that.

Absol never had such complex thoughts as it jumped and turned; the large blast of scales had it against his magic bounce; but the powers of that source of infinity energy, and his own, there was no bouncing that back; instead, he found himself being shot forward as it pushed him forward, the barrier that was his magic bounce, a natural protection; cracked.
[break][break]
It cracked, and began to break, peel off, and then finally shatter as he ran forward, a wave of pink, a powerful blow.
[break][break]
But, by the time it had; they had gotten just a little out of reach, survived by a hair. That was the absurdity of what Kouji had been fighting, what he had bitten, what he had made an enemy of.

”Holy shit.”[break][break]
And so they ran, with their tails between their legs.
