To think this was the Sub, the place he had not been in yet. To fight a battle of life and death, again and again before he had even seen the headquarters. Just how hilarious was that? He looked on at the open room, padded, bags, and the smell of chlorine.

”To cover up the blood huh?” He tugged at the bandages that covered his entire body, that John Sullivan had done quite a number on him, that MATIAS SILPH had crushed and stabbed through his foot, and Navy had pushed him infinitely close to death.

But his eyes landed on a blonde, a man he had only one interaction with, were it not for the bandages he might well have jumped him, he even considered it in that moment; the smirk on his face, the narrowing of his eyes, before he flashed into a grin, and a slow, struggling wave.

It's wise of Kouji Matsubara not to lunge for Cillian uninvited; the mood he's in, the underboss might have killed him.[break][break]

Instead, he looks up from his phone when addressed and narrows his eyes.[break][break]

He does not appreciate the implication of weakness, of defeat. Yet the coldness abates some when he takes in the sight of the other man. Arguably, he'd fared even worse than the underboss.[break][break]

But it was worth it, he thinks, pride burning out shame.[break][break]

We won.[break][break]

"It'll heal."[break][break]

The stitched wound across Cillian's cheek draws the eye, though his arm is also bound in gauze. Sitting as he was, his long pants cover the burn on his leg and give no suggestion of its presence.[break][break]

Some Matias guy stabbed in the foot with some bullshit powers, some crazy idol chick tried to stab me with her knife, that guy, Navy, tried to punch me to death…But most of this is from some strange power I don’t even understand. Some guy with pink scales? Mist? Something like that.”

But that was the moment in which his smirk turned into a grin.

”Don’t worry too much though, it’ll heal.”

For him, for Kouji, the thing that mattered the most. ”When are we going in for round two?” He said as he sat across from Gavin, his eyes fixed onto the underboss, his expression didn’t shift.

”You know more than me, so I won’t ask your thoughts…But after getting my ass kicked by the people who I wanted to beat up most, and winning over guys I don’t care about; it’s hard to call it a victory.” He said as he ran a hand through his hair; his bandaged fingers didn’t allow him to grip his hair, nor was it comfortable in the slightest.

”So, I’m looking forward to the big boss setting us loose again.” So at least, nothing new was being planned by the big dogs. Kouji got at least half of his answer from that, but at the same time.

”Sounds like you hate that Matias guy huh? That guy was crazy strong, even without any pokemon; he was throwing around earth spikes like nothing.” For the young man who’d only very recently learned of Avatars, that was an eye opening experience.

A family, he thinks, keeping it to himself.[break][break]

"The blood you spill serves purpose. Perhaps you didn't win every battle. But we won the war."[break][break]

It is clear by the fervour in his voice that Cillian is unhinged. For Rocket, he would burn the world to the ground.[break][break]

His lip curls at MATIAS SILPH's name.[break][break]

"Groudon's Avatar." It was personal between them, but Cillian keeps that to himself. He says only, "Every Avatar that sides with the League needs to be put in the ground."

Kouji looked at Gavin, the man he knew as Gavin as he spoke of a cause.

There was a shine in those eyes, a fire, that he himself couldn’t replicate in that moment. It was different to their ‘conversation’ in the cave, and it was different, it was something he could understand. He wasn’t sure, but perhaps behind that fire stood the dream that this man across from him held.

And Kouji could understand Dreams.

”Aye, you’re right. I can feel happy for our win as a team.” He said with a grin before it faded, his eyes looked down at his own feet for a moment, crossed in front of him. An Avatar, that had been the person who had done all of this to him, Matias wasn’t the first one on his mind, but it was that fighter, the man who healed himself, who had sprouted all of scales and hit him with them.

”We can agree on that, next time I won’t lose to ‘em.” He said as he cracked his neck before releasing a low hiss. His failures, the knowledge that he who had been a big fish in his small pond was a tiny fish in the wild ocean. Humans that held powers well beyond everything that he had expected before.

”Are you an Avatar?” He asked a question, his eyes danced with excitement, as if regaining its lustre.

If Cillian was a dagger, shaped and serrated steel, this kid was a blunt bar of iron. Each could kill, but one had been forged for that very purpose while the other relied upon sheer force and luck to cripple its mark.[break][break]

Kouji Matsubara distracts him from what he might've said with a question. A logical one, at least.[break][break]

He is proud, as evidenced by the crow in his voice.

There was a simple truth, to knowing that this man was an Avatar, that he was like the two he wanted to beat, and so he asked the question that lied within his mind.

From the day he was born, the only thing he existed for was to be a weapon for his father to use, in order to rise up rocket until the day that same weapon turned against him; and existing as a weapon was the only thing in his mind. The kind that needed a wielder, unlike the man across from him.

One could surmise that Kouji Matsubara meant him no harm, and only wished to exact revenge on MATIAS SILPH and John Sullivan, but he would not gamble so readily with his life. The recent increase in traitors proved that intentions could change.[break][break]

"All Avatars are different, but we share one thing in common."[break][break]

He allows Kouji a moment to think on what that might be, then,[break][break]

"If you raise a finger to Lugia, I will kill you slow."[break][break]

He states it with the same bland affect as if he'd been discussing a choice in breakfast cereals.

It wasn’t a lack of self-preservation either, though many who’d known him for a while would doubt its existence. It was a simple surmisation, a way to win in a fight, and a path of victory through violence…

Kouji Matsubara's advice might have been good for a lesser man. Cillian only smiles, a slow curve of the lips that doesn't reach his eyes.[break][break]

"My anger is not a careless thing."[break][break]

It was a thing of infinite patience. He would hold a grudge for years if it would better benefit him to wait.[break][break]

He doesn't seem offended by the insult to his sanity.[break][break]

"Consider it advice, more than threat."[break][break]

The easiest way to get an Avatar's attention was to target the source of their power... but it was also perhaps the most dangerous.

Kouji reminds Cillian of his younger self, before Rocket had melted him down and reforged him into the man he was today.[break][break]

The younger Rocket was arrogant, proud, and blind to the nuances of victory and defeat.[break][break]

"If you stand your ground and die, you've still lost." It was one less Rocket for the League to worry about, one more victory bolstering the confidence of the enemy. "Sometimes you retreat so that you can go back and finish the job when you're strong enough."[break][break]

Amber eyes settle heavy on Kouji.[break][break]

"You don't. I'd kill you."[break][break]

There is no arrogance nor anger. He states it as fact.[break][break]

Then he smirks.[break][break]

"But I'm plenty dangerous when I'm not angry. We can still scrap." He spent a lot of time in the training room for a reason, after all. "Once we're done cosplaying Cofagrigus and all."[break][break]

There's a soft huff of annoyance. He doesn't like being unable to fight, but knows the wounds will heal better if he doesn't stress test the process by getting into scuffles.[break][break]

"You should meet my husband. I think you'd get on."
