To smuggle things, to steal what was being transported…He had been here before, having his boys watch a truck for weeks, learn the habits of the drivers, to do the thinking he refused to.

But could he still do that now? Kouji wasn’t sure, as he stood, looking at the truck, and the workers moving everything, he didn’t know if he could take that same path. To just charge in, knock them out, beat them up, then take the pokeballs. The words that Zev Harcourt spoke to him echoed in his head, causing him to chew on his lips.

He knew that was the right option, but he could make himself grow, evolve? Change the way he had done everything until this very moment. ”Let’s see…Oi, you, how much experience you got with this stuff?

Crime Time

After the hellish 24 hours of the Ultra Deep Sea, the mundanity of trafficking Pokémon made Alba want to laugh. That was right… despite everything he'd been through, he was nothing more than a petty thief working for an organised crime group. No terrorism or scientific research could shake that fact.[break][break]

"Hm… Never smuggled anything before, but I've been in plenty of places I shouldn't have been." He sounds almost nostalgic as he speaks, though his eyes snap from the past to the present soon enough.[break][break]

"It's a dance!" Alba declares with a snap of his fingers. "Well, it's more like the opposite of that, since we're moving against them rather than with them. A masquerade ball where if you're seen, you lose, simple as that."[break][break]

"You know this place better than me, right? If you know the steps, then take to the floor."

Kouji looked at Alba before nodding very slowly.

”You’ll be fine, dancing is like a fight, except it doesn’t have any of the things that make fights fun.” He said as he looked around the corner, they were close; but he knew the two of them would stand out by trying to hide, so Kouji went out into the streets, hand in his pocket.

”I’ll take the floor then, you keep the rhythm, and I’ll do the steps. Keep me posted on any movements, you’re way more innocent looking than me…Not that much, a little more innocent looking.” You couldn’t trust white haired guys with golden eyes, and silver eyes took second place.

”See those guys over there? The ones taking out the pokeboxes, we’ll go our separate ways, I’ll walk down the street and you walk the other. Keep an eye on them, and I’ll do the deed.”

"You've… never actually danced before, have you?" He wouldn't have said something as clueless as that if he had. Dancing and battles… A conclusion like the one Kouji had so brazenly made could only have been made due to a lack of data. Or at least, that was Alba's opinion.[break][break]

"Not that much…?" At that point, daylight streamed from behind Alba's head. It should have turned him into a saint, but somehow that halo just made him look more devil-like. "What if I took out the braid?" He asked as if something as superficial as that could turn him into an ordinary member of society.[break][break]

Still, off he went, dredging up as much innocence as he could muster. He just had to be a pair of eyes, and his days spent in front of telescopes and microscopes alike had honed his ability to monitor things. Probably best to keep that guard a little raised just in case, though.

”Nah, keep the braid…Gives you that “soon to die” kinda look, y’know? Not trustable, but you look like you’ll die anyway, so people’ll tell ya crap anyway.” He said with a shrug as he headed off.

He had his own task, to be the one that roll in, to take charge of this moment, to power his way through to that very moment. He saw the loot, he saw the men and pokemon working it, and he saw the pokeball.

He just had to steal them, and so he parted ways, his hood pulled up, and he walked a different direction to his partner, almost as if contrary to the plan he had drafted, he couldn’t dance, but he sure could fight. He knew how to match the beat of a person he planned to crush beneath his boot.

But to match the beat of someone he was working with? That was something else.

Crime Time

"Soon to die, huh…" His fingers traced that hangman's rope as they went their separate ways.[break][break]

"One, two, three." A waltz would be the nature of this crime, steps done in 3/4 time. For every four moves the men needed to take, the thieves would simply need three. They had the steps, painstakingly extracted over the course of weeks. Now the dancer and his metronome just needed to be able to keep time.[break][break]

Alba did his best to look as innocent as possible as he lingered around the loading area. Not only was this a task to keep Kouji from getting into trouble, it was a light of hope for white-haired, silver-eyed men everywhere that their days of shifty vibes could be behind them. Best to focus on the crime at hand though.

Kouji walked the other way, each step was slow, carefully picked, and sorted; his eyes didn’t shoot back, he didn’t know Alba, he didn’t know what the truck was about, he didn’t know if there was a mission.

He was simply a man on a mission right now, it had been a while since he could slide into this mindset.

He kept count under his breath as he turned on the spot the moment he found a corner and rounded back around towards the van, hands in his pocket; cap rolled down, breath kept even, he didn’t even look forward but at the ground. His head was in his mind, and his mind was in his head, thoughts carefully concerned.

Space was opening up in front of him, they were going inside, and the raid would occur in a second, he would have to roll into the back of that truck, take what was needed, and prepare for a fight just in case.

Crime Time

It was as easy as following the steps, the beat of the drum. Passing by an iron fence on his patrol, Kouji seemed to be moving across the staves of sheet music, a single note amidst the unworthy detritus.[break][break]

Though, was any of this truly a dance? They moved like one, Kouji the dancer, Alba the metronome. If one of those footstep mats had been laid down before them, they'd be matching the outlines perfectly. But just following the steps only meant you were moving rhythmically. That couldn't be called a dance, the same way a corpse couldn't be called a person.[break][break]

Seven. A jackpot. Like a jack-in-the-box, like tokens falling from a machine, someone sprang up from behind a crate as if they'd been lying in wait all this time.[break][break]

"Dip." Lower him gently to the ground, to keep things moving fluidly…

Kouji followed the natural rhythm that existed in his head, adjusting it match the pace of Alba, the plan, and the overall goal; it was important that he didn’t fuck this one up, pivotal even that he kept pace this time around.

As Alba ‘dipped’, Kouji followed it with a turn, and then it was..

”Seven, Eight and Niiine.”

He could walk back around now again, he approached the truck with, gentle steps that slid over the ground, pavement slid in reverse, passing on behind him, he counted each crack, each little gap, each dip.

Then it was right there, two hands ready to meet, Alba was in front of him. But Matsubara Kouji had made a singular mistake.

Seven had already been called.

The only hint for that was the glint in the corner of his vision.

Every step in a dance fed into the next. You had to lift your feet up from where they landed to keep moving, after all. If you moved the wrong way, your next few steps would have to be dedicated to fixing the issue, or else the mistake would ripple into the future, unbound by decay, with constant inertia.[break][break]

Well, that made it sound as if all missteps were equally easy to rectify. A stumble and a sprain were two different things, but one just needed you to shuffle around, while the other you had to live with.[break][break]

"Dumbass." Kouji would be able to hear the word muttered under someone's breath, before a white blur tried to shove him to the ground.[break][break]

That stupid piece of metal.

Kouji hit the floor, a sharp impact that pushed him out of the way,

It was a sharp sound, one that hung in the air for a moment, he could only look up at Alba. ”Oi…” There was a crack in his voice for a moment, just a singular moment. ”I didn’t mean you actually had to…”

It was strange, and sudden, but Kouji jumped back onto his feet, like a marionette reattached to his strings, he had no control of his movements, a haze that covered his mind, was it shock? No, he could feel his limbs just fine, he could move just fine.

He was angry?
[break][break]
Not at the person who he was rapidly approaching, his knife flicked out in a singular movement, striking the arm of his opponent, the clattering of steel against the floor.

The source was himself, there was no other reason to put himself in harm’s way. ”Idiot.” He really was a dumbass, his arms moved, and he struck as hard as he could with his spare knife.

It wasn’t a deadly strike, it came from below upwards, a lot of blood sprayed. Then he had the time to turn to Alba.

”Oi, we need to get the hell outta here, can you move?” He asked the man.

The dance had ended with a metal bell.
