Meetings, meetings, and more meetings peppered the schedule of the Rocket admin. More and more they began to eat at his sanity, amplified by the ongoing conflict ensuing ever since the news first came in of Elisabeth Fiorelli 's avatarship.

"Tsk."

He clicked his tongue against the back of his teeth, smoldering frustrations barely kept at bay by the need for stability.

His calm stoicism went far beyond a personality trait - it was his duty, crafted by the severe need for leadership who remained sagacious even when facing the most arduous storms. Rational beyond any level of doubt.

Heavy footsteps came to pause at the mouth of the submarine's training facility. A familiar figure was kept standing in the center of the room, gloved fists raised in preparation for another set of swings.

Getting stronger.

His eyes narrowed, the blaze of rising frustrations spread.

I need to get stronger.

"Hey," he called out from the entrance, "Let's spar."

Zev glanced up at the familiar voice. His gloved hands caught the punching bag as it swung back toward him, stopping its arc. Though he frequented the submarine's fitness center more and more in recent weeks, rarely did he find sparring partners there.[break][break]

If Felix was offering, Zev was not about to refuse the opportunity.[break][break]

"Sure," the Beast said, a rare smirk curling his lips. He ripped his boxing gloves off as he walked toward his duffel bag, dropping them momentarily to wipe sweat from his face and drink from a water bottle.[break][break]

"Need a minute to warm up?"

Normally he would take the chance to warm up. Avoid pulling any muscles or fucking up shit for the long run.

But today was different.

Emotions were still at an all-time high, raging well past his classic stoicism, and truth be told? At what point would he have the time to warm up if an actual fight were to break loose?

Wouldn't doing so defeat the purpose of gauging one's abilities?

"Nah."

He stepped into the trainer room, feet sinking into its matted flooring, and hands already moving for his clothes. Jackets, ties, watches, and the like were all pulled and tossed back down to the ground where Zev might've kept his things.

All that'd be left was the sole black tank top he wore beneath his clothing and the pair of black joggers he'd worn into the conversation.

"Ready when you are," he shrugged, then glanced over to a stray grunt dealing with some weights. "Count us off."

Zev shrugged too, not caring if Felix pulled a muscle in their spar. "Suit yourself." He tossed the other man a set of gloves before strapping his own back on.[break][break]

For this spar, Zev had to remember that Felix was an ordinary human; the Beast would not be able to use his armor to his advantage in the fight. Unlike bryan delarosa, Felix did not have superior strength or regenerative abilities. He could neither protect nor heal his body from blows against Zev's crystal hide.[break][break]

They squared off in the practice ring. This close, Zev could see the smallest tics revealing Felix's simmering anger beneath the stoic façade: narrowed eyes, a clenched jaw, a pronounced vein in his temple. He wondered, briefly, if Felix's emotional state had prompted this impromptu spar.[break][break]

The grunt gave the signal, and Zev lunged, one hand raised for defense, the other jabbing at the side of Felix's head.

Felix recognized those eyes.

Analytical in nature, there was no doubt in his mind that Zev was weighing his options.

He'd read of his assistance with Chu-e Choi 's extraction. Of the transfer of Necrozma's infection. He wondered, from that, was more obtained? Was that why his eyes ravaged his body? Were options being weighed?

There was no guarantee. Paranoia is a sickly thing, turning even the smallest possibilities into one's entire reality.

And through this lens of tainted reality, Felix's itch for blood tugged his fists upward, readying him for the signal.

When it came, so did his instincts.

One arm sprung up, defending against the below to his head. While Zev was one to take precautions, Felix was one to thrive off reaction, timing himself to the rhythm set by the other.

With their arms now locked, his other fist looked for the uppercut.

Felix was fast. Zev recognized the admin's movements as instinctual, the muscle memory born from years of practice.[break][break]

But Zev was the same. He saw the tell for the uppercut before Felix could launch it. Zev dodged backward, drawing away from his opponent and letting the jab punch through the air.[break][break]

With both of Felix's arms raised, his torso was wide open. Zev aimed a fist for the other man's sternum, hoping to knock the wind out of him.
