The suggestion of horse riding had been...strange initially. But he trusted his therapist and had set to do it. Awkwardly, in a class full of strangers. Last time he'd met @zain so...naturally he looked around for them, finding familiarity a little more tolerable than anything else. But when they don't find the blond their eyes set back to the horses. [break][break]

He kind of liked the Mudsdale, even if it was far larger than him. The one they had was goody, nodding along to a song they couldn't hear and trying to steal treats from the trainers. Silly. [break][break]

He stands around, watching the instructors place them around with different horses. As they get ready to go out on the trail, he ends up next to one of the other lads in the class. As he moves around them he manages to bump them, pulling back quickly. "Oh, sorry."

The idea was something therapuetic to take a load off with. Ashley promised Kep he'd only go do it to try and clear his mind. Simple horseback riding. No chance in hell he would get attacked. So, here he was, intent to ride horses. He always did want to as a child, but well...[break][break]

An asshole foster father said it was too much of a sissy thing to want to ride horses. That was foster dad number two. That one lasted three weeks.[break][break]

The instructor was busy placing them around, only for him to bump into someone, his little Goomy, Laguna, attached to his shoulder, as Ashley, now fully visible, gives a smile to the blonde, not recognizing them in the slightest. "Don't worry about it, man. You okay?"[break][break]

This was a much different side to Ash. As his little Goomy squelches and makes weird gooey noises, Ashley... acts cordial? And sweet? "Here for the Mudsdale too? Used to love 'em back in the day."

"Yeah, I'm fine." Paxton said as he gave the stranger a nod in greeting. His eyes move to the little Goomy and their goofy expression. "Cute kid." he added offering the flash of a grin as he said it before looking back at Ashley. [break][break]

"Yeah. I like workhorses." he said, ironic considering he was the human equivalent of one. "Hear they're also pretty calm with beginner riders." he added, nodding over to another pen where someone was riding a shiny Rapidash, blue flames flickering here and there as the horse pokemon sped aorund its pent and bucked the cowboy off. Though, they managed to stay on, much to its irritation.[break][break]

"Paxton. Paxton Concordas." he said after a moment, holding out his hand for a handshake.

Ash is grinning now, and Laguna seems to be doing the same, making a small raspberry as he laughs. "Heh. Yeah, that's Laguna." He's so much more chipper than he was, and after rubbing the little slime boy's head, who squelches comfortably in response.[break][break]

Thing was, he had far gone past the beginner reigns, what with how Shalin Nariya showed him how to ride. It's crazy to think about her wildly hanging on for dear life.[break][break]

But that was just Shalin.[break][break]

"Yeah. I've heard they're pretty chill too. Foster dad never let me enjoy them and put some shit thoughts in my head for a long time." He didn't like to think about those times. He'd grown much more since than, but it did leave a lot of mental and emotional scars.[break][break]

Oh well.[break][break]

Grabbing his hand, he reveals his own name. "Ashley Shepard. Pleasure's all mine."[break][break]

He liked this guy. Seemed like he had a cool head on his shoulders, relaxed. That was a vibe, and this guy seemed to embody it. If only he knew...

He snickers, patting himself down for a quick treat before sucking his teeth as he realized he was out. Sorry Laguna. Unlucky. He tilts his head at Ashley, eyebrows furrowing without him meaning to. The once over is subtle, quick. He’s checking the trainer’s age, putting together inferences and little deductions from what he could already see. But Ashley doesn’t seem distressed, and as soon as he’d done his scan he’s over it, eyes back on the horses. “Sounds like shit someone who’s never worked a farm says.” Not that he had. He’d had friends once upon a time that worked or even owned their own farms. But Paxton hadn’t gone cavalry in his career. [break][break]

“Well, glad you’re here. I’m sure the horses are too.” he said with a snort. He gives the trainer a firm handshake. The trainers finally come back around to their two stragglers and lead them over to the horses. Paxton inquires about the calmest horses, and they jokingly offer the shiny Rapidash. She’d come back around after bucking off her last rider and snorted as a show of force. Paxton snorts back, turning his head from the fire type before looking back at Ashley. “I’m not ready, but maybe my bud here will take her out.” he said, riling up the Rapidash and throwing his acquaintance under the proverbial bus. [break][break]

He lets that simmer before glancing around as the trainer laughs him off while the Rapidash stomps her front leg, insulted. “How ‘bout that pony? She’s cute.” he suggested pointing out the Galarian variant of the horse who looked a little more tame. “Stick it to yer old shit head.”

Unlike Paxton, Ash wasn't even piecing it together. He's not dumb, but a mask kept the man hidden. The face of someone he hated. This person though? It doesn't register. He seemed nice enough, and with a big grin from him, as they make a firm handshake...[break][break]

He is none the wiser.[break][break]

With the trainers coming to round up the two stragglers, Paxton asks about the more gentle horses, and with it they give potentially a shiny Rapidash, a little neigh, a little blow of the nostrils, and then Paxton throws him under the bus, and though the silver-haired man swivels on a heel...[break][break]

"Hey, I've ridden a Yanmega before. I'm sure it'll be fine." He laughs, little Laguna making more squelching noises to join in the hearty laughter. The Rapidash was insulted, and now that he was under the bus, he might as well enjoy it and not insult the Rapidash.[break][break]

But he turns his head towards Paxton, and... actually laughs agreeably with him.[break][break]

"Heh. You're damn right. Fuck that guy."[break][break]

What a good, friendly person. He holds his hand out to the wranglers, and calls out. "One with the shiny Rapidash. I'm feelin' confident, and I was so graciously chosen by my cohort here." he chuckles out, and shoots Paxton a smirk. A little challenging one.[break][break]

Man. Paxton Concordas was a cool guy.

"Fine. I'll take the pony." He takes a beat before nodding in realization. "The- The other Rapidash. The Galarian one." The one with giant pink mane and soft green eyes. "He seems nice." he said as the fairy type came over to sniff at him. Paxton held out his hand in greeting, avoiding the shiny Rapidash's eyes. That was Ashley's problem now.

They get saddled up. Paxton takes his time, introducing himself to the horse and moving him by the reins. He is given a carrot to feed it before gently climbing up the horse's side. A little instruction is given about how to steer and go faster or slower, but otherwise, the Rapidash seemed slow and content to wait for Paxton to decide where they were going.

"Don't get too cocky. Or do. I know CPR!" he said with another snort at his new friend. Just in case he got bucked off so hard he got the breath slammed out of him. "And before you say shit, don't ask for a race. I ain't interested in raising my blood pressure." he added with another bark of laughter.

Alright, yeah, Ashley was getting a little too cocky. A smidge of arrogance that inflated his ego. He rode with Shalin Nariya, on a Yanmega. He can handle this, easy-peasy. And though the little Galarian Rapidash seemed a lot more passive, Ashley knew the shiny one would be an easy ri-[break][break]

And the neigh roars out, as the anxious Rapidash rears up onto its hind legs, as Ashley is holding on for dear life, his silver eyes wide, as he holds on, gripping towards the neck, and shaking. And now, almost like a Bouffalant, the shiny Rapidash attempted to throw Ashley off.[break][break]

And the poor guy was thrown off into a tumble, the wind knocked out of his lungs.[break][break]

"Yeah... no problem... lungs burn... no race." He gasps, hoping to gain the air back, as the Rapidash snorts, and trots away. Ash doing his best to just get his breath back. It comes back slowly, steadily, and allows him a chance to get himself back on his feet.[break][break]

"Envious of riders now. This isn't an easy pastime..." he laments, his face coated in sweat as he moves to approach the Rapidash.[break][break]

He's riding that horse. So help him. He can't look like a loser to a new friend.

Paxton doesn't even attempt to hold back laughter after he and his horse lean over to check if Ashley is ok. Pink and blue curls flutter in the wind. "Hey, pretty boy, can you-?" he asked, pretty the Galarian Rapidash' mane gently. The horse already knew what to do, psychic power glowing in its horn as he helped Ashley back on his feet without needing Paxton to hop off. [break][break]

"Breathe. You're winded." he said watching his new friend recover. His horse huffs as the other Rapidash rushes off just out of reach of the new rider. "We haven't left yet, trainers got you a new stead if you need it." he added, smiling. Though, its clear he's heavily amused by this whole situation.

With the psychic power pulling him back to his feet, Ash finally was able to breathe a little bit easier. But, as he gets in the oxygen, still a little winded, he turns towards the new friend before him atop the Galarian Rapidash.[break][break]

"Yeah..." He rubs at his neck, as the new Rapidash enters the fray, the trainers readying up another Galarian Rapidash who whined in a very cute way.[break][break]

Ashley stares, and eyes the beast.[break][break]

"Oh my god, she's so cute." He reached down, the female Rapidash enjoying being pet and loved upon. Had it been in the cards, Ashley might have been an equestrian kind of guy. Less a brony, but more just a lover of horses in general.[break][break]

He does look to Paxton, and there's a pause. "Well, you're a natural." A laugh leads to him coughing, as he gets atop of the new Rapidash, the neigh one of joy for the rider.

"They are. Kinda want my own to register here." he said with a laugh. His mount shook his mane proudly as the trainers dragged away the more feisty Kantonian Rapidash. "Yeah, cute is cute. Shame my apartment is too small for one." he added with a laugh. Though, perhaps with his promotion...maybe he might try moving to Evergrande. [break][break]

Closer to his job, closer to luciano fisk - He pushes away the thought when his companion gets up and mounts. "Y'think?" he asked puffing out his chest. His horse whinnied, sounding very much like a laugh. [break][break]

"Would you believe me if I said I was almost cavalry in Kanto?" he added as his Rapidash began to trot down the assigned path. Though it waits after a few steps for Ashley's to follow. "Then again, I'm not doing the work at all. It's all my guy here."
