"You're a brave one!" Shalin remarks at the choice of riding on her Kommo-o. "But I like that about you! Most people are terrified of him." She hands you a pair of earplugs to put in your ears for the run. The rumbling scales beneath the saddle makes the ride tough to get used to, but after a while, it's not as rough as you thought! After a while, it even feels like a massage![break][break]

That sensation is short lived when the Kommo-o rattles his scales faster and harder, an almost numbing tingling sensation cousing through your body. Shalin giggles and lets out a loud whoop of joy. His prank having been played, the loyal Kommo-o tromps up the mountainside, climbing its trails in search of the dragon's-head-shaped summit cave. Upon reaching it, Shalin recalls her Kommo-o, the two of you landing on your feet despite the numbness in your legs. Outside it was a sign telling explorers that Rangers would not rescue those trapped within under any circumstance.[break][break]

Switching rides to her Alolan Ninetales, Shalin leads the way. The dimly lit, winding tunnel gives way to a buried, obviously manmade structure with a royal purple color scheme: the same as the Blackthorn Dragon Clan and many other dragon clans throughout the country. The entrance chamber is surprisingly well-lit and imposing, a line of nearly life-sized statues of fierce Dragon-type Pokémon, including Salamence, Garchomp, Druddigon, and Hydreigon giving more timid adventurers a reason to leave.[break][break]

The next chamber's center features a predominant gray color scheme, a dais taking up much of the center of the room. An image of the legendary Pokémon Rayquaza is beneath the surface, ancient script hanging above it in an effulgent glow. Similar-looking words also hang above three altars at the room's north, west, and east sides, a jewel embedded on the surface of each one. To the west, a black amethyst; to the north, a purple-colored gemstone; to the east, a topaz.[break][break]

When Rayquaza is mentioned, Temp's eyes light up for a different reason.[break][break]

He wonders how much of this is based on the stories of his people? Temp always got so giddy when the prospect of that came up. The Hoyeon Tribes weren't often depicted in things like this given how small each Clan was.[break][break]

Temp must follow his heart of hearts. The wise thing to do is to read something. Instead, he chooses to Touch the gemstone above the west altar.

As you touch the gemstone, it glows a deep gray color, then breaks free from its relief and floats above the central dais, being manipulated with an unseen power. The grey color scheme of the Shark's Maw gives way to a bright white one. Her Ninetales steed screeching as she starts scratching the ground with her claws in an almost involuntary fashion. The ancient script near the now-open north door rearranges itself into a short message:[break][break]

"STEEL avails you not."[break][break]

Shalin's jaw drops, almost completely still astride her ice Pokémon. "I'm... I'm not feeling so hot. What does any of this mean?" she asks as she leads the way west. In the next room, you see two Drakloak circling medium-sized pillars, launching Dreepy missiles at you and Shalin! A pair of Haxorus, despite giving intimidating stares and passing close by you with murderous-looking eyes, do not so much as raise a claws toward you and your explorer partner.[break][break]

The only other open door is to your north.[break][break]

A curious choice was given, though....[break][break]

While his first instinct is just to attack outright, that isn't the smart play. If they did a status effect, while it wouldn't act immediately, it would slow the two pokemon down. And, even if it was something rough like Poison or Burn, after a good nap the pokemon would be fine. No lasting damage and it would slow them down.

You use one of your Pokémon to hurl a cloud of fine debris toward the eyes of the Drakloak. It works! Their ranged attacks fly haphazardly about the room, most of their shots missing. The ones that do hit are friendly fire against the Haxorus. Their eyes glow red with anger as they get within melee range of you and Shalin, looking like they could maul you with their claws and tusks at any moment. Strangely, their bladed weapons refuse to move, leaving them wide open for the Fairy-type's DAZZLING GLEAM to scald the scales of the four dragons. They all fall unconscious, the ghost-types fading into the ethereal.[break][break]

The way forward clear, Shalin and her Ninetales bound through the north exit, leading the way into another rectangular chamber with a similar size to the one you just left. Following her, you find her standing on a dais, this one also etched with a relief of the Skylord Rayquaza. The top third of the dais radiates a gleaming silver, the middle and bottom third almost completely gray; only a small violet panel and small yellow panel stand out. You can faintly make out an inscription on the sides of the raised platform, wrapping its way around its circumference:[break][break]

"You who reach, but cannot grasp,[break]
In failure ever to wander.[break]
Be well prepared for what is to come,[break]
The writings heed.[break]
You who adapt to instruments gone,[break]
Wield new might blessed by Glory's light."[break][break]

You head west through a narrow hallway that winds north, hearing the sound of a dragon's claw clashing against something hard. With great caution, you continue northward through a door frame and into a sizable chamber with a large pillar in its center, crowned by a carving of a Druddigon head.[break][break]

As you step through the door frame, a stone slab rises in front of each of the room's four entrances, sealing you inside. Two Druddigon and two Hisuian Goodra stare you down. While the Druddigon stare at you angrily, they don't seem to be attacking. The Hisuian Goodra take the initiative, though, seeking to soak you and your Pokémon with confusion-inducing WATER PULSES![break][break]
