As you approach the topaz-studded altar, you notice the relief of a Dragapult head carved into it. An inscription below the relief reads as follows:[break][break]

"Here, make of your KNOWLEDGE an offering. GLEANED for gleaning's sake, surrender it. Only then the path to tread."[break][break]

Shalin likewise reads the inscription. "The one on the left said, 'STEEL avails you not,' didn't it?" she remarks. "What do you think the altar means by knowledge?" Getting the idea to read the third, it does not take her long to step toward the it and return. "This one said something similar, but about Wisdom. But what could it mean...?"[break][break]

There is a brief moment where Temp wishes he could actually speak into his phone for some answer. While the CUSTOM INPUT is always an option, he's never been one to mess with that type of stuff too often.[break][break]
So it was a puzzle? Well, that much was obvious by this point. He hadn't taken it as seriously before and it had cost them in the first serious battle they had.[break][break]

As you touch the yellow gemstone on the east altar, it does not immediately react; instead, the amethyst above the central dais floats toward the west altar and recedes into the wall above it. In front of the altar, ancient text briefly hangs in the air:[break][break]

"Your abilities are once again your own."[break][break]

As your environment ceases looking greyscale and returns to its natural colors, you feel the oppressive dragon energy surrounding you dissipate, as though you have been released from something shackling you.[break][break]

That feeling is short-lived; immediately after the colors return to normal, a large topaz above the east altar breaks free from its relief and floats above the central dais, being manipulated with an unseen power. The grey color scheme of the Shark's Maw gives way to a bright yellow one. Shalin's Pokémon steed starts screeching as it scratches the ground with its claws in an almost involuntary fashion. The ancient script near the now-open north door rearranges itself into a short message:[break][break]

"KNOWLEDGE avails you not."[break][break]

The west altar blocks your way forward, and now the only open door is to the east. As you enter, you are immediately greeted by a room filled with deadly toxic spikes and a perched Noivern whose eyes glow blood red.[break][break]

You ambush the Noivern with the strongest physical attack you can muster. It's a success, the dragon knocked off its perch and skewered by the spikes below![break][break]

Carefully maneuvering through the trap-laden room, you head north, greeted by a pair of circling Drakloak whose eyes flash like strobe lights. It is the wind-up for the deadly blinking lights composing CONFUSE RAY. Suddenly, they stop flashing to no effect.[break][break]

The failed attack gives you an opening to strike first, or to flee without confrontation through the room's north or east exits, should you desire. The west exit is sealed by a slab with a purple glyph illuminating it. Looking beyond the north wall, you catch a glimpse of a locked gate in the room beyond.[break][break]

As if on cue, when the last one falls, the pillar they were rotating on recedes into the ground, revealing a round device. Curious, you pick it up. It appears to be a COMPASS of some kind, its needle pointing to the northwest.[break][break]

After you enter the next room, earthen slabs rise to cover the west, south, and east exits. Covering the west slab is a purple glyph similar to the ones you've seen previously. Seconds later, one of the room's royal purple floor tiles rises from the ground near the room's center, starts spinning rapidly, and goes flying toward yours and Shalin's general direction![break][break]

While the first few tiles are easy to deflect or avoid, as more of them rise and fly toward you, they get faster as you block or evade them, and the time in between launches shortens. Contending with shrapnel from the tiles impacting the walls adds to the difficulty of remaining unscathed during the onslaught.[break][break]

You unlock the north gate and press onward through it. On the other side is a cavernous span that looks unlike the rest of the Shark's Maw, consisting of massive topped stalagmites crossing over a void you cannot see the bottom of. The trail makes a turn to the left that appears to lead back into the temple proper. Unfortunately, your way forward is barred by a second locked gate. Whatever lies beyond has to be really important if it is sealed with two or more locks.[break][break]

With nothing apparent threatening you, you are free to explore as you please.[break][break]
