Barnaby mused to himself bitterly, fanning his face with one of his hands. The other was draped across the back of a dark-skinned CAMERUPT, who was currently chauffeuring its master across the plains of the Safari Zone.[break][break]

No way BARNABY FINCH was gonna trudge around this inferno on his own. Best to let his Pokémon handle the manual labor, as was their job.

While Barnaby was busy trying to not succumb to heat stroke, CAMERUPT moseyed along at a glacial pace, pushing through the savannah brush as if it weren't even there.[break][break]

Until... they stopped.[break][break]

"Hey." Crunch, munch, slurp! "Hey. Keep walking, fatass."[break][break]

The CAMERUPT lifted its head, mouth full of grass and chewing contentedly. It almost lowered it again after swallowing, but decided to comply.

Slowly, cloven hooves trudged through thick brush once again, parting the savannah like a sepia sea. Barnaby continued to look out for Pokémon from his bovine perch, though he had a tough time of it given the sweat dripping from his brow.[break][break]

In fact, he didn't even see the MORPEKO until it was under-hoof, squeaking up an angry storm at his CAMERUPT. Had it stomped on it's nest or something??[break][break]

"Whoooah, easy, easy." He soothed his steed, who was now sidestepping and mooing uneasily. "Just trample the vermin if it's bothering you so much."[break][break]

Barnaby didn't have to give any more incentive. With more speed than he thought possible, his CAMERUPT began stomping on the ground wildly, hoping to hit or at least scare off the MORPEKO.[break][break]

They knew it made contact when the squeaking abruptly ceased.[break][break]

"Hope it's not dead..." Barnaby muttered as he threw a Safari Ball.

With an indifferent moo, the CAMERUPT began trudging through the brush once again, uninterested in eating any of the prickly forage. It was mostly spines and hard stems, anyway.[break][break]

From his vantage point atop the camelid, Barnaby could see a hovering object just ahead. Considering what he'd encountered on his previous visit, he figured it was probably another KOFFING. Which, hey, why not. He could use another one. They seemed to be a ROCKET favorite, after all.[break][break]

Maybe if he gave one to mint frost it would keep the guy quiet and obedient for a little while.[break][break]

Soon enough, the KOFFING was contained within a Safari Ball and Barnaby continued on his way.[break][break]

It was about time to head back to the Safari Zone entrance, so he directed his CAMERUPT to travel down the path by the pond — a nice view with the sunset reflected off the water to end their trip.[break][break]

What Barnaby didn't expect to see there, however, was a rarity among Pokémon. Though it was difficult to discern from a group lounging by the shore, a lighter pink SLOWPOKE stood out from the rest. A shiny variant![break][break]

"Earth Power, but this time create a barrier around it. Don't let it escape into the water!"

While the rest of the group floundered to escape into the water, CAMERUPT's earthen wall prevented the shiny SLOWPOKE from joining its brethren — just as Barnaby had planned! It gave him time enough to throw his Safari Ball and eventually cinch the capture.[break][break]

"Good girl~" He praised his CAMERUPT, patting her flank roughly. She brayed mellowly in response (a sound halfway between happy and indifferent).[break][break]

They were almost to the gate now. Barnaby still had one more Safari Ball left and didn't want to waste it, so he was a little more alert atop his mount, surveying the tall grasses for signs of Pokémon. A distinct swaying of seedheads indicated to the admin that there was likely something meandering in the brush ahead.[break][break]

He couldn't see it, but fuck it, it was time for a Hail Mary. With as much force as he could put behind the throw, Barnaby lobbed the capsule forward, aiming for the mystery Pokémon in the grass.
