At last, Shalin was on the up and up among the Rangers. After seeing and evaluating her unique skillset, Laurence Anderson had been in talks with her about running for the position of Verdanturf's Ranger Captain, filling boruta maher 's vacancy. While she had a long ways to go, her renown within the Rangers was at last accumulating. Despite still being in a green uniform, she was only a Rookie in name. She had tons of experience doing dangerous work as a freelancer before formally joining the Rangers. Today would be yet another mark toward being eligible to run for the coveted office of Captain.

The loud sound of a startlingly close metal-to-metal contact spooked Treble, Shalin not prepared for the surge of vibration that coursed through her from her Kommo-o mount. Only her SYGNA SUIT kept her from being thrown from the dragon's back. "Whoa!" she gasped. "Try to give me a heads up next time!" Even with the suit on, Treble's vibration was powerful. While it didn't have the sheer speed her Flygon's wings did, the scaled Pokémon more than made up for it in sheer might, a full-speed Boomburst able to grind wood and even rock to dust. Without her suit on, it could turn flesh and bone to pudding just as easily.

Sandy, her Flygon flying above her, chirped her wings and pointed in the direction of the metallic bang. It appeared there was a construction project going on. She approached the man and his Ceruledge. "Excuse me?" she called out, flashing her Ranger badge. "This is an environmentally sensitive area where new construction is not allowed."

Shalin prepared for the scale run this time, her Kommo-o steed raised his tail skyward, goose bumps forming on the skin beneath the rider's dragon-scaled, red-and-green suit. "Rocket or no, that doesn't change that this area is environmentally sensitive," the Rookie stayed firm as her Flygon landed. If Jayden was an astute observer, he would have been able to see something unusual about the Flygon's wings. Stuck in one was fragment of a scale from the suit Shalin wore.

"By the authority of the Verdanturf Rangers, I must ask you move your construction project out of this environmentally restricted area," she reiterated with confidence. A second wave of strong vibration rocked Shalin, the low-powered CLANGING SCALES perhaps also rocking Jayden's hearing. "I don't want to make this any harder than it needs to be."

The Z-MOVE: MIMIC YOU left Shalin's Kommo-o harnessed to the ground. While he and Shalin weren't truly immobile, the rider, likewise, was effectively strapped onto the dragon. Though they were immobile, they were far from defenseless. "It doesn't have to be... like this," Shalin managed through the constructive tendrils that held her fast like a cocoon saddle would. "Take your construction... elsewhere."

It was obvious from the beginning that Jayden wasn't going to listen to her. With the inability to use close combat moves, the girl would be fully reliant on her specialty: the power of clashing waves of vibration. She donned her earplugs for the dangerous discharge of noise that was to come. Faster and faster the scales rattled and clanged, sounding like dozens of Kantonian gongs being struck in unison. Even in the presence of her immobilized Flygon, her suit only offered her full protection against the blurred scales that would have torn her to shreds.

The shaking was so fast and intense that beneath the percussion sounded a loud, drone-like hum akin to the wings of a flying insect. "Faster, Treble!" The ranger being seated on the scaled dragon only made the vibration all the louder, largely being turned into an extension of his body. It was only her CAREFUL bond with her Flygon, forged over many years of hardship and suffering, that let her withstand shaking that would have been lethal for ordinary people. If Mimikyu were to continue to take hold of Shalin and her Kommo-o, that same vibration may have coursed through the ghost-type, as well.

The PAIN SPLIT pierced Treble's armor, and Shalin's suit with it, the powerful vibration rocking them both as though they were the target of the CLANGING SCALES attack. She let out a scream not of joy, but of anguish. Without the protection of her suit, the shaking was downright painful. Unable to move still, Shalin and her Kommo-o could no longer attack without endangering her life. In her dizziness, she reached for a second Poké Ball to contest Jayden's Muk.

With her suit no longer functional, she was free to use her other Pokémon to their fullest potential. Pinching her fingers unsteadily over her MEGA CIRCLET, she and her Shiny Beedrill glowed with the brilliant, violet-pink light of MEGA EVOLUTION.

The deafening drone of the wasp's wings drowning out almost all other noise, Shalin's saddle-wearing partner charged the Muk with primal instinct. All four foreleg stings whirled toward Jayden's Pokémon in a cleaving DRILL RUN as Shalin's consciousness began to fade from the STENCH...

While the PSYCHIC blast did not down the Mega-Evolved Beedrill, it was sufficient to cause her to revert. Furthermore, the Muk's STENCH still lingered, causing Shalin to pass out completely, leaning forward and putting pressure on Treble's neck. With her trainer unconscious and even the Kommo-o dizzy, the insect had to choose between the battle and Shalin.

Queen Zing's recursion perhaps saved Shalin's life this day; Mega-Evolved, the berserk bug-type would have continued fighting despite her trainer being in immediate danger. Instead, the more caring Beedrill scooped up Shalin between the flats of her foreleg stings, the Kommo-o bounding away from Jayden with what little energy he had left. Shalin had planned on calling for backup to help with apprehending the Rocket.

With her lack of awareness, there would be no backup.
