Resuming normal life proved difficult for Summer Atreides. There were multiple things clouding her mind. Her discussion with Gunner Graves and her decision for their future, the strange twenty year dream she had, a ring on a chain around her neck...[break][break]

She held no resentment or bad feelings to her former lover, nor did she regret her decision. His fear that she'd miscarry again and suffer emotionally, this time not in a dream, only validated her decision to go ahead with termination. And she appreciated his support.[break][break]

The sting was still there, no matter how long it had been.[break][break]

The ring was a conundrum Summer wished she could figure out. She knew it was important, and that she must have gotten it from someone near to her in Galar. But who was it? What did it symbolize?[break][break]

It was all driving her insane. So, Summer did what she did best: she went to a quiet place and ordered a drink.[break][break]

Her drink of choice was a dry martini, biting off the olives that soaked in the alcohol before sipping it. She winced as she swallowed it, relishing the burn. She sat at an open-air bar, staring ahead at nothing and no one.[break][break]

Until she heard footsteps of her companion coming to meet her. "Callan?"

Callan was going over the latest sales numbers for his album, Burn the Rain, with his manager. Things were going even better than expected.

"At this rate, the tour next summer is going to sell out fast," Theo said, sounding pleased. "The promoters are already asking about additional dates."

Callan nodded, taking it in. His team's hard work promoting the record was paying off. A familiar voice caught his attention. "Summer."

He looked up with a hint of surprise to see her across the room, a smile curving his lips. It had been too long.

"Sorry Theo, can we continue this tomorrow?" Callan asked, his gaze still on Summer. "There's something I need to see to."

Theo followed his glance, understanding. "Of course. We'll pick it up first thing." He clapped Callan on the shoulder. "Looks like you've got somewhere else to be."

Callan dismissed his GM, assuring him they'd finish their discussion tomorrow. Right now, there was somewhere else Callan needed to be.

He slid onto the barstool beside Summer, ordering a whiskey highball from the bartender. Turning to her, his smile faded as he noted the shadows under her eyes. "Rough day?"

She turned in the seat when she heard him echo her, saying her name. It was a familiar comfort, hearing her name on his tongue. Taking him in, Summer felt a multitude of emotions rise in her chest all at once.[break][break]

Primarily, she felt joy.[break][break]

"I knew it was you," she whispered.[break][break]

Summer moved to get off the barstool and walked to him, but Callan exited his conversation with who she assumed was someone related to his career in music. She relaxed back into the seat as he approached and sat beside her, turning back to her drink in front of her.[break][break]

"Rough day?" His question made her laugh lightly, raising the martini glass to her lips as she sipped. Her shoulders rose and fell as she shrugged.[break][break]

"Not necessarily. I suppose there's just been a chain of events that's been keeping me up at night. Things that just... don't make sense," Summer answered vaguely, almost hesitant to bring up anything related to Galar with him.[break][break]

Several times, she recounted seeing him on the battlefield on route 120. And she saw a fuzzy image of the Callan Young aged twenty years. But how much did he remember? Was it all a dream to him?[break][break]

"I'm glad to see you, Callan. I've missed you," Summer admitted softly, her gaze traveling from her glass back to him. It was tender and gentle. "It feels like I haven't seen you in years."

"A chain of events?" Callan repeats, as he listens to Summer's answer. He infers it's the same thing he's experienced, "Like... remembering places that you haven't lived in before, in a life that you don't remember, with people you're close to, but they're not there?"

Callan pauses, as she continues. "It does feel like it's been decades." Callan replies, "It's good to see you again Summer." He squeezes her shoulder. He could tell, there was something else draped over her. "You seem different, Summer." Callan begins, "It feels like you've lost the fire inside of you."

Summer's gaze flicked toward him as he elaborated. And, after a brief pause, she nodded slowly. "Exactly," she said, her fingers reaching up to idly adjust the ring that hung on the chain around her neck.[break][break]

It was still a mystery. It was important, but she couldn't place why it was so important. And the more she thought about it, the more the memories seemed to fade.[break][break]

"Callan, you may think I'm crazy, but... did you have a dream about Galar?" she asked, almost scared to hear his answer.[break][break]

There was a small smile on her lips as he squeezed her shoulder, though it was quick to fade as he made an astute observation. Summer didn't realize it was really that obvious how drastically she'd changed.[break][break]

"Perhaps I have. I lot of things have happened. I don't... I don't regret them. But I feel like I'm slowly being eaten away by twenty years I've lost that's also affected my future here in Hoenn," Summer said, playing with the rim of the martini glass.[break][break]

There was a long pause. "Gunner and I broke up. And we decided that for our futures, we shouldn't keep the baby..." And it stung like alcohol poured over a fresh wound as she admitted it openly to Callan.

"Not crazy at all." Callan replied, though his eyes lasered towards Summer briefly. "But the people that I know that experienced it were all in a battle in the midst of a League Operation. An extensive passage of time was present in everyone's description of their dream."

Of course, it wasn't just a League operation. Team Rocket was involved as well. What was the CEO of Lionheart Trade doing there? Callan realized he didn't want to know the moment he had that thought.

Callan sipped his whiskey, grateful the conversation had moved on. Though the subject matter remained morbid.

He finished his drink and waved for another round for them both. "It was a wise choice." Callan replied. "You two didn't expect a baby. And given your positions, it wasn't good for any of you, including the child.."

He paused. "I know this is terrible consolation," Callan's eyes turned to Summer. "and it doesn't diminish the pain you're feeling. It was a tough choice, Summer, but it was the right one."

Summer grunted, sipping her drink. He gave her some validation. And, of course, she would lie and play the side of the League. Why was she there? She had skill and would be an asset to their side. But, they didn't need to know the details.[break][break]

Neither did Callan. And as much as she loved him, she'd lie to him about that much, at least.[break][break]

Some of the tension that was held taught in her shoulders loosened visibly as he spoke. Her glass was empty, but it was soon replaced with another one. She'd soon be too wasted to think about what happened.[break][break]

"You think so?" Summer sought the validation, and Callan offered it to her. With another sip, she sighed, closing her eyes.[break][break]

"Thank you, Callan. I needed that. I've felt very... alone. I'm glad you're with me." She allowed herself to be vulnerable, if for a moment, resting her head against his shoulder before sitting back again.[break][break]

"Enough of the sad shit. Okay? I don't want to spend my time with you thinking about what could have been or what was. This is to tomorrow." Summer raised her glass.

"To tomorrow." Callan repeats, clinking his tumbler against her glass. He downs the contents, hiding his knowing look behind the glass.

Callan catches the bartender's eye and signals for another round. "And one for the lady, of course." Best not to offend.

"So, tomorrow, huh?" Callan surveys the past month. "The album did well. Critics raved, public adored, accounts are keeping steady." He shrugs. "The glamorous celebrity life. Though between us, I'm trying to expand."

Callan pauses, eyebrow cocked. "Fame and fortune only go so far. Real change seems out of reach when you're living the 'dream.'" He doesn't bother hiding his sarcasm. "But for the right reasons, I'm getting involved again."

He swirls the ice in his glass. "What about you? Any world-changing interests I should know about?"

Summer finished her drink, appreciating that Callan ordered another round. She traded the empty glass for the new one, though she didn't put her lips to it quite yet.[break][break]

"I know it did. I enjoy it myself. And my employees like to play it around the office when they have the chance. They think they're sneaky, but I know that they play music in the cubicles..." She laughed.[break][break]

"I actually think you're the one that's taken over Melody Miro now at my building. Congratulations."[break][break]

Her eyebrows rose. "Expand? What do you mean?"[break][break]

As for Summer's own interests... what was there to say? "I feel like my line of work isn't as exciting as dropping an album and making the top charts. I've successfully closed several trade deals, and I'm pursuing a few outside of Hoenn."

"Hey, as long as they get the job done, right? But something tells me you're a hard woman at work." Callan smiles, looking towards Summer, "I'm glad they're listening to my music. That's all I want." And if there were a few who could feel validated when listening to it, that's what he wanted the most, more than anything else.

Callan's gaze briefly falls into his whiskey glass at the mention of Melody Miro's name. After contemplating the amber depths, he turns to Summer with a wry half-smile.

"No need to fret over my delicate ego," he says gently. "Melody will always remain my personal hero. Not even her own misguided opinions could change that."

His eyes turn back towards Summer, "The eyes of the public are fickle, and they change constantly. Melody's going to make another album that's going to top the charts as well."

Callan pauses, "We're both artists, and so... our work should be taken into the context of what we make. Having it be on the charts is nice, but for me, it's better if people can understand and appreciate the work."

He then returns back to her question, "I'm trying to change the world, Summer." Callan replies, "Might not actually be able to do it, but I want to."

He waits, as Summer continues, "Why not pass on the company to a General Manager?" He asks, "Then you could pursue your own interests, love, hobby, whatever it could be. I could use your help, too."

Summer couldn't help the smirk into her glass, tipping it to her lips. "I suppose you could say that. I separate work from play. I imagine you might not see me in my working mood, unless you come across my office."[break][break]

Though, Callan might be someone to break her from her fiercely focused mood.[break][break]

"I absolutely agree. I anticipate that the next album she makes will be played on repeat as well. However, I always look forward to diving into the music and dissecting its meaning, whether it has one or not."[break][break]

A general manager would be nice to have. It would be less on Summer's plate. But then, what would her busy mind be occupied with? It was her own flaw. However, something he said caught her attention.[break][break]

"Change the world? And use my help? That certainly has my attention. Care to fill me in?" she asked, turning in the chair to give him her full attention.

Callan nodded slowly, brow furrowed in thought.

"I'm in the process of building a company—actually, a set of companies." He began, "I realize that simply resting on my laurels as an Elite Four member and rock star won't accomplish much. Life in Hoenn is unlikely to change substantially from world ending disasters."

"But at the very least, I can work to improve people's lives and prepare them."

"I'm investing in Rift technology to improve everyday appliances. The things we garner from the Rifts can be built into everyday technology— the potential is limitless if we can make the tech commercially viable."

"And there are global security concerns to address. So I'm also founding a private military corporation to handle threats conventional forces can't. It's been a lot of negotiating in these past few months, behind the scenes."

Callan's eyes turned toward Summer, reaching over to take her hand and guide her onto his lap. "You're a CEO, you built Lionheart after inheriting it." Callan began, "How would you start up this project?"

Summer took his hand, sliding from her chair and into his waiting lap. It was a familiar comfort, one she hadn't experienced in several months due to her relationship with Gunner Graves. And, as he spoke, she reached up to thread her fingers through his bright hair.[break][break]

She had missed this.[break][break]

"That's quite the aspiration, Callan. More than what I was expecting you to tell me," she admitted, tilting her head to the side as she regarded him with a curious gaze.[break][break]

"I like it, though. I think it has a lot of potential, if you find the right people to invest in the your businesses and military. You can always have good ideas and good intentions, but money makes the world run round." It was something she knew all too well.[break][break]

"Though, I know you know that. So, my question is... are you looking for investors or funding?"[break][break] Summer stopped playing with his hair for a moment, relaxing her arms around his shoulders and leaning forward in a comfortable position.[break][break]

"You need allies. People you know you can trust to aid you and support you through the process. I already mentioned the funding and investment. And once you get that far, you need a solid team to promote it." Summer offered a lazy smirk, raising her brows.[break][break]

If he just say the words, she'd be more than willing to help him in some way or form.

The corner of Callan's mouth curled gradually into a subtle, lopsided grin. As Summer leaned in, draping her slender arms loosely over his sturdy shoulders, a glint of charm sparked in his eyes. With a gentle yet firm grip on her waist, he drew her willowy frame against his chest.

Callan's smiling gaze met Summer's bright yellow eyes. He angled his head downward, brushing his nose lightly through her hair and inhaling its sweet, floral scent. His shoulders softened as he settled into her familiar warmth.

After a pause, Callan's thumb traced delicate circles on the small of Summer's back. He held her waist snugly, focused entirely on her upturned face.

"Summer..." he began, her name flowing smoothly from his tongue. Callan's voice took on a casual yet meaningful tone. His unwavering gaze and touch conveyed the importance of his request before the words left his lips.

"I want you invested in this, by my side." Callan arched a brow, awaiting her reaction. "What do you say?"
