THE BORDER IS A MOUNTAINOUS PURGATORY OF MUTED SEPIA SMOKE. By floating islands, translucent bridges soar through the realm toward the heavens. Tall stone spires jut out from the spiritual mist. In the sky, the wisps of spirits can be seen heading toward their final destination before the afterlife...[break][break]

Curiously, there are four broken seals embedded in four mountains. Though Adrian Malcolm and YVELTAL may have seen their location upon their unceremonious entry, the spirit realm has shifted since their last visit, rendering each broken seal far apart from each other.

Aaron was excited about this one. Ever since an incident, he was always curious about death and ghost-type Pokemon. This was like a dream. The five foot four blonde teenager wore a Trevenant themed T-shirt, jeans, and black sneakers. He also had on a backpack filled with supplies. Far as his team goes, he was using all Ghosts this trip, and all the trips he was going to make here. His starter Trevenant and Aegislash, Gengar, Chandelure, Jellicent, and Dragapult. Oh boy this was going to be fun!

This new group of people he didn't know. Well, that wasn't unusual, he wasn't normally sociable anyways, let alone towards adults. One of them he did dig up on was a ranger. And the other a biologist of some sort. But that was all he knew. Once again, he was the only kid among them. And hopefully he wouldn't be underestimated at all. Although, with one of them being a ranger, there was a possibility that his dad had worked with the guy, but who knows. So, the amber eyed teen just waited patiently for the two men to arrive. But if they didn't get here soon, he was just going to jump in without them!

His first venture into THE BORDER had been unsettling, to say the least. It might have even traumatized him if he hadn't experienced something vaguely similar in the science colony of HOLON before. Needless to say, it would take more than what he'd endured so far to deter him from returning for a second expedition. It was, after all, his duty as a RANGER.

This time, however, the group he traveled with was smaller than the previous. On the bright side, that meant one less human for the spirits to possess and use against them. Alternatively, that was one less person for a fight Audric Black already knew would come. He sighs as they walk down a mountain trail, then stops ahead of them to speak.

"So... the LEAGUE gave me these TAGS for our group to use. I've been instructed to gather data with them." He tells his group, lifting a small metal case and opening it so they may set their eyes upon the SPELL TAG and CLEANSING TAG therein. "I'll take the SPELL TAG. One of you can take the CLEANSING TAG. We probably shouldn't activate them until we set up a base of some sort first, though..." He adds.

Just then, he spots a GIMMIGHOUL atop a floating ferry at the edge of the island nearby. He grins before placing away the SPELL TAG in his possession and retrieving a small pouch of coins from his pack instead. "Come on!" The ranger calls out to his teammates as he heads off to meet the ferryman. "I came prepared this time! We can get across the river with this little guy." He says, pulling out three silver coins before handing it over and boarding the ferry.

Okay, so for some bizarre reason he was being drawn here.

No thanks to some information from one of the Elites (it had to be Callan Young as he was the only one out of them at the time who was at Mount Pyre during the Meteno incident; he was in space and cousin dearest Elinor Anderson was at Littleroot) that the spirit, or at least some amalgamation of it that resembled a Moltres was sighted.

And he wanted answers, never mind if it looked like he was going to be barking up so many wrong trees.

Thankfully, though, his ~~Italian~~ Alto Marean heritage had also set him up with quite an obsessive knowledge of mythological stories, and he’d read somewhere (in that lengthy so-called self-insert ‘fanfiction’ but was actually an allegory for ye olde ~~Italian~~ Alto Marean ills in the past) that since they were close to the Border between life and death…

“…can the boat hold all our weight?” he mused, concerned look on his features.

“Then again… doing something stupid out here would be the end of it all for any one of us. We have to be careful.”

He shivered. The radio silence in the back of his head was still killing him.

Otherwise…

“Let me take the Cleansing Tag, then—and once we get to the other side of this ‘river’ we look around for a place to set up camp. Sounds good?”

The introductions would have to come later.

(Maybe it was lucky that Audric didn’t know that one of his bosses was here!)

The other two people arrived soon after. Though no one really introduced themselves. Just straight to business. Which in a way, Aaron was fine with. The first mentioned a pair of talismans that the blonde was skeptical of. The ranger volunteered to grab the cleansing tag. One of the men offered the Gimmighoul ferryman some coins for them to travel on the boat when the ranger raised concerns about the rickity boat. Looking at himself, then at the dark haired man, he turned to the older blonde and asked a question. "Are you calling him fat?" Ace pointed at the dark haired man. Despite his monotone delivery, it was just a joke, but come on, the boat wouldn't be floating if it was really that bad.

"Jokes aside, I do have a Drifblim and a Jellicent. We'll be fine if the boat is worse than it looks." Whether it was bravery or eagerness, Aaron jumped aboard and sat down, waiting semi-patiently for the two men to hop on. Then they were off! Upon landing at one of the floating islands, it was time to find a good place to set up a base or camp. The first platform just seemed so flat. So, Aaron led the way to the next one, up above, but with a translucent bridge connecting the two. Fast walking up it, perhaps a little too confident, the platform actually had a small pond with clear water. That was handy. "What do you guys think? Fresh water supply would make for a decent place, right?" It also had a couple of trees and a berry bush. Surely it'll be fine, right?

If so, he'd start making a small camp of sorts, with firewood, a one person tent that would then be staked down, and a few minor touches. He was only one person, and most of his supplies was food and water. Still, the look of wisps in the air did make him just sit and watch. He half wondered if any malevolent spirits would try their luck here. He had a full team of other ghosts to crush them with. But an uneventful time might be nice too...

Audric agrees with Laurence Anderson about setting up camp on the other side. After all, if he was reading the terrain correctly... they were headed in the right direction. That direction is south. And the intel he'd gathered prior to entering the portal told him that was the location of a certain landmark in this territory.

Thankfully, with a bit of humor on the part of Aaron Toral and his joke, the ferry ride goes rather smoothly and the GIMMIGHOUL bids them farewell with a wave.

Aaron Toral takes the initiative from there and Audric is happy to follow along as they choose a nice spot for them to make camp. Once he's unpacked the heavier stuff and prepared a lighter bag for easier travel, however, the Holonite doesn't stop to rest. "Now that we have a camp, I was thinking about investigating something nearby: a BROKEN SEAL to the south. You guys coming?"

Realizing he can see it from here, the ranger moves toward the cliffside and pulls out his pair of binoculars to examine it. With a smile, he points toward it and turns to look at his fellow partners. "It's right there. Do you see it? I'd love to get a closer look if we can. Seems like an easy hike."

Once he’d made sure to pay the Gimmighoul the coins needed once they’d reached the opposite side of the river, it didn’t take them too long to get the ‘base camp’ settled down—and not a moment too soon.

Before he could let the other Ranger go out of sight, though, he had to make sure that they were not—

“Wait a moment,” he remarked quietly as he then summoned his Gastly, the flickering ball of… well, literally gas began circling around them. “Do any of you have Ghost-types we can either leave behind or use to scout ahead? You never know if we’ll run into some trouble out there.”

Much as he was tempted to bust out the ice ‘wings’, he knew better than to do that—especially with people who may not be aware of his status as an Avatar… at least not yet anyway; who knew if there would be answers when they came out here to find…

Things.

A few moments later he then summoned his Drakloak as well; additional ‘firepower’ for whoever would be leaving guard Pokémon behind.

“I’m leaving my Drakloak here as a guard… I can suggest more ghosties for either guards or scouts before we continue.”

The camp was soon finished, and Audric mentioned investigating a seal of some sort to the south. The man pointed at it. Aaron looked, and saw it, but not clearly since he didn't have binoculars. That was something that he should probably invest in. Unlike Kee, he actually saved his allowance. He did agree that it looked like an easy hike. Mr. Anderson put a stop to their eagerness with some good points. Did the guy forgot that Ace had mentioned that he had at least two ghost-types? Taking out all six of his pokeballs, he showed them both his team of Ghosts. The tall, imposing haunted tree that was his starter Trevenant, the possessed shield and sword that was Aegislash, the two large, round pokemon that was Drifblim and male Jellicent, his red Japanese-umbrella wielding Gengar, and his reptillian Dragapult. "As you can see, I have a full team of them." He ended up picking Jellicent as the other guard, figuring it would be best to try to balance out physical attacker and special attackers for guards.

Returning everyone else except his Drifblim, Ace had an order for it. "Drifblim, why don't you scout ahead and check up for any obstacles." The balloon Pokemon moved away and ahead of them."[/color] Looking back at Mr. Anderson, Ace made a bold proclamation. "I got you covered, fam. Shall we? Drifblim will come back if anything major happens." Or discovers something perilous. So with that, the blonde teenager started the small hike, with a smaller bag for water and food in tow. Though it didn't take long for the sounds of battle to occur. Looking up and ahead, malevelant spirits were attack Drifblim. Though he was easily handling them with Air Slash and Shadow Ball. Soon, the way was clear, with Drifblim taking minor damage. Hopefully that wasn't a sign of things to come...

TLDR
Ace gots ghosties covered, fam.
Made mistake, retconning having Drifblim instead of Chandelure.
Left Jellicent to help Drakloak guard the camp.
Sent Drifblim up ahead to scout, runs into malevolent spirits.
Takes minor damage, Prompt 6 complete, maybe Utilizing Ghosts in advantageous way?

Unfortunately, Audric does not have any Ghost-type Pokémon in his team during this expedition. Which was a shame, honestly. Now that he had experienced this strange realm, he was very curious to run a few experiments with one.

There was still an important test to run, however. And, after reaching the BROKEN SEAL that he had mentioned earlier, the black-haired ranger filled the others in on it. "I'm going to place the SPELL TAG," He says, pulling out the aforementioned item and looking in the direction of Laurence Anderson afterward. "If things get too dangerous, you are free to use the CLEANSING TAG as you see fit." He nods and awaits approval from Aaron Toral next before placing the SPELL TAG around his Houndoom's horn.

And, for a moment, it seemed nothing would happen... until suddenly a strange aura began to fill the area. Gusts of wind picked up from all sides, and a chilling howl reverberated through the air. Amidst the snapping of tree branches and a stark drop in temperature, evil spirits were beginning to emerge... along with something else.

Thankfully his Gastly was on scout duty, and therefore gleefully accompanied the Drifblim as they went ahead to check if there was anything they needed to be on the lookout for.

The good thing about this was that there wasn’t anything waiting for them up ahead where they’d gathered, however now they were going to try something… ironically enough, the Spell Tag item was attached to the literal hell hound to try and attract something to come out here.

And boy did the ‘something’ come out, because the moment more shades started appearing, Lars felt something… numbingly familiar in the air, which made him look up…

The shade of an extremely-familiar looking Mirage appeared; but it wasn’t the one he was connected to, it was—something else entirely.

“You two better—move!” he exclaimed as the shade that was shaped eerily like a Moltres of all things came swooping down, howling anger; but the way it howled sounded more like a cry of betrayal as it unleased a powerful burst of…

“Nero, go deal with that!” he exclaimed as he summoned his Dusknoir, who came up from under his shadow and met the shade with its singular, staring eye before releasing an orb of nefarious energy; a Shadow Ball attack!

However, the Moltres wasn’t done and took extreme offense to the attack, turning their spectral attention towards Aaron Toral and releasing another attack that resembled the shade-like version of Fire Blast, if he was seeing this right.

“Ghost—on ghost!” he continued as he knew at least someone else brought a spectral Pokémon with them. “We need to repel it before it—!”

• Lars’s Gastly found nothing up ahead, area is secure!
• the moment the Spell Tag comes into play, though, they were literally asking for it
• the shade of an angry, angry Moltres appeared and set off Lars’s heebie-jeebies on end
• Nero the Dusknoir appears and launches a Shadow Ball! However…
• shade!Moltres turns their attention towards Aaron Toral and used a spectral version of Fire Blast!
• doing prompt 14: engage in battle with the vengeful and vestigial spirit of moltres or victini.
• (feel free to attack it once or get yourselves in trouble, I’ll set up the Cleansing Tag prompt on my next post + a surprise that would prompt some questioning!)

They soon made it, and Audric decided to set up the spell tag around his Houndoom. Aaron nodded at him, and called his Drifblim around him. Things started to feel dark and creepy, but the boy was ready for a fight. And boy, did one join them. But the spectres just swirled around them. One came at them from above, revealing it to be an angry spirit of a Moltres. Even with Lars's Dusknoir launching a Shadow Ball, it set its attention to him! Drifblim got in the way of the Fire Blast, making the ghost/flying type explode spectacularly, engulfing the spirits around them and the Specter Moltres with Aftermath. The blimp itself fell down, knocked out. Ace returned it, and released Dragapult.

"Dragon Darts, take it out!" The speedy dragon zipped around, and started to fire its large supply of Dreepy at the original fire birb. He probably could set up, but there wasn't enough time and things were starting to get treacherious. Plus, his dragon also knew Protect, so it had potential to wall the birb if necessary...

TLDR
Drifblim goes down, but its Aftermath ability helps clear out the specters and do damage to Ghost Moltres.
Aaron returns his knocked out Drifblim, and releases Dragapult.
Dragapult uses Dragon Darts. Release the missile babies!

Audric and his Houndoom had been busy fending off various dark spirits that had charged them during the MOLTRES attack. The waves of ghostly flame that swept through the natural arena, however, seemed to do most of the work for them. When it was clear to do so, the ranger would turn his attention to the fiery bird and watch as Aaron's Dragapult fired missiles at it.

This, of course, only ended up angering the Moltres even further. A missile had met its mark, but the others instead struck the cliffside as the Moltres flew circles around them. After briefly shifting his gaze back onto the seal, Audric calls out. "We're almost done!" But stops when he realizes the Moltres is flying back and glaring at him next.

Sure enough, when it sees him taking the CLEANSING TAG from Laurence Anderson, the flaming avian strikes. It fires a roaring FLAMETHROWER at the young Holonite that would have surely cooked him alive had it not been for the intervention of his Houndoom. Thankfully, her FLASH FIRE ability absorbs the flames, granting Audric enough time to slap the cleansing tag down over the spell tag and recite the incantation.

A surge of purifying energy ripples out from the tag like a tsunami afterward, washing over all of them and BANISHING the Moltres and the other dark spirits from sight. The valley once again finds its serene peace.

It didn’t take too long for the angry spectral Mirage to come bearing down across the battlefield; and despite the two very nearly getting cooked alive, he figured there was nothing else to it.

(Someone was eventually bound to find out about this sooner or later!)

Thankfully, while there was a Houndoom that helped divert most of the flames away with its Flash Fire ability, he would take a running start and out from his back would appear a couple of… wings. Not made of purest ice; it was more like muddled, cracked and chipping ice; but it was still there.

“I don’t know what you want but leave us alone!” he hollered, hoping that the jagged, uneven shards of ice he sent flying towards the spectral Moltres would send it away—as far away from here as possible.

(In that rush to get mid-air, he had not realized that he’d left the Cleansing Tag with Audric back down on the ground. Whoops!)

Either way, the shards would fly into the gloom, before he would come back down to the ground; but not without flopping the landing somewhat.

“Fuck, it was even angrier when I threw ice at it,” he hissed. What was up with that damned spectral-Mirage, anyway?!

Little did he know that the wings of darkened ice were still lingering behind him.

Ace's attack only seemed to piss off the Moltres. The birb showed its battle prowess as it only took a single hit, flying around to avoid the rest and causing the darts to hit the cliffside. The spectral bird whipped around and glared at Audric. Lars handed Audric the Cleansing Tag, and the man's Houndoom intervened with the Moltres's attack. Flash Fire could be useful at times. The Lars did something that utterly surprised the teenager. Lars grew ice wings and tried to fly towards the spectre. And threw ice at it. Audric then used the tag, cleansing the area of malevolent spirits and driving Moltres away. Well now...that was an adventure.

And what the fuck?! Walking towards the landing man, who hissed about the Moltres getting madder when ice got thrown in its face, Aaron pointed at the wings. "One, who wouldn't get mad about getting ice thrown at their face. Two, what the hell are those? How are you making ice wings? You're not a Megapoleon or whatever...are you?" Amber eyes narrowed as Dragapult immediately got in between them, ready for round two. Though the accusation didn't make much sense, now that the lad thought about it. But the question still remained. How was he doing that?!

TLDR
Sees the things happening.
Sees the ice wings and attack, wanders wtf is going on.
