Grease-mottled paper bags sat emptied on GIDEON GRAVES's kitchen counter, their contents plated and brought over to the small bar top in the corner of his apartment. He'd made the little nook his own: a couple stools on either side, a small sink at the end, a rack mounted behind the bar to hold shelves of liquor.[break][break]

Seated here was the professor and his friend ollie morales. The two had been celebrating for quite awhile now. Their burgers had been eaten, their thirst... well, wasn't exactly quenched. They were working on that.[break][break]

A subtle warmth had spread to Gideon's cheeks, goaded there by the drink in his hand. And the one before that, and the other one before that one.[break][break]

The professor was no stranger to alcohol, especially these days. It was his crutch of choice, after all, though Ollie probably wouldn't have noticed the signs of his current dependence.[break][break]

It had been awhile since they'd gotten together like this. Life was pulling them both is crazy directions, making meetups like this one even more rare and significant.[break][break]

"Congratulations again, Ollie." Gideon remarked through a slight smile, his voice warmer than usual. [break][break]

"Head Ranger is quite the accomplishment."

[break][break] the title had just fallen into his hands. or his lap. or something. ollie had never planned to be head ranger. that sort of work was better left off to people like Laurence Anderson. he had never been the ambitious sort, not even as a kid. no, in fact, he was near opposite of that — he was the kid who chased his passions, his dreams, and everything else that came after was just a plus.

[break][break] there was a warm buzz under his skin as he shared dinner and drinks with his good friend GIDEON GRAVES. these days, life was pulling them in all sorts of directions and ollie sorely wanted something familiar to remind him of the things that had not changed. annalise henderson's disappearance, Caleb Harcourt's disappearance, PENELOPE LIVY's avatarship... all were mysteries that he could not crack, and it bothered him like a kakuna that could not crack through it's cocoon.

Even in his tipsy state, Gideon perceived Ollie's deflection, but did not comment on it. If the new Head Ranger wanted to downplay his accomplishments, then so be it, if that was his prerogative.[break][break]

GIDEON GRAVES was just happy to spend a little time with the man before their schedules pulled them away once again.[break][break]

As Ollie spoke, Gideon chuckled softly into his glass. "Cooler? Now you're just trying to flatter me."[break][break]

Much as his friend did, the professor propped an elbow onto the bar top, using it to steady himself on his stool.[break][break]

"I worked my ass off," He admitted, his voice becoming more serious.[break][break]

"But..." There was a second of hesitance, in which a few faces came to mind. His ex-wife, fed up with the amount of time he spent pursuing his career. Elisabeth Fiorelli, who had ghosted him for, what he assumed, was the same reason.[break][break]

"I had to make some sacrifices along the way."

"yeah. i was," ollie chuckled, sipping his glass before setting it back onto the counter. he grabbed some of the nuts that were placed on a dish, crunching one between his teeth.

[break][break] with everything that was happening in his life, it was fun to kick back and relax with an old friend. he didn't have to think about the complications of head ranger, the fear of losing Caleb Harcourt, or the fact that he might never see annalise henderson again.

The liquor made his tongue loose. [break][break]

"The kind that leaves me alone a lot of the time." He confided with a shallow sigh. Gideon could feel that, on some level, he'd allowed his guard to fall around ollie morales. Strangely, however, he didn't seem to care.[break][break]

"I'm used to it, though. I just keep focusing on my work. That's what's important, you know?" Despite saying this, the professor didn't sound so convinced.[break][break]

On his shoulders GIDEON GRAVES held the responsibilities of several men. It was a daily tightrope walk, juggling everything that needed to be done.[break][break]

Perhaps that was also why he'd continuously found himself at the bar as of late.

[break][break] despite popular thought, ollie morales could understand feelings of loneliness like no other. it was why he always surrounded himself with friends. it was why he liked to fill his days with thrill-seeking activities like rock climbing or surfing or water skiing.

[break][break] "who cares about what's important?" he scoffs, reaching across the bar for his friend's hand to give it a gentle squeeze. "that sounds boring."

"Doesn't it?" Blissfully, he laughed.[break][break]

The sound came from deep within his chest, as if it'd been saved there for a long, long time. GIDEON GRAVES couldn't remember the last time the sound of his own laughter had filled his apartment.[break][break]

It was a cathartic release.[break][break]

The feeling of a hand squeezing his own drew the professor back to the conversation. He quieted, letting Ollie speak, and subtly squeezed back.[break][break]

Had the ranger's voice ever been so calming before? With one word, the other man was able to cast away Gideon's woes. Somehow, he found himself unconsciously leaning closer across the table.[break][break]

"I do." He agreed, suddenly resolute, while meeting his friend's eye. Eyes? It was hard to tell. Everything was a little blurry.[break][break]

"You're right. I want to have fun right now. I'm tired of being like this."

[break][break] a laugh was pulled from ollie's throat, spilling out in the air before them. somehow, in the span of minutes, gideon had leaned closer. instinctively, ollie's knee bumped against gideon's thigh, feeling warm against him.

[break][break] "okay. okay," he said then with a grin, smiling something fierce. "what do you want to do? i'll help."

Gideon was done waiting for others to banish the loneliness in his heart. He wanted to enjoy his life in the moment, unburdened by guilt or similar dragging emotions.[break][break]

Where fingers aimlessly intertwined, the professor purposefully gripped a little tighter. Gideon felt the brush of a limb against his thigh, too, and leaned into that touch as well.[break][break]

This could only mean one thing, right?[break][break]

Arceus, ollie morales had the most dazzling smile. As he gazed across the bar top now, all Gideon could think of was how beautiful the other man's lips looked spread across such an honest, endearing face.[break][break]

It was too much. All at once, GIDEON GRAVES realized what he wanted to do.[break][break]

He leaned closer still, closing the gap between friendly proximity and intimate closeness.[break][break]

"Can I kiss you...?"

[break][break] hanging out with his good friend GIDEON GRAVES, drinking with him, celebrating with him. these days, it was so hard to find a point in time where he could relax — where he didn't have to think about the stressors of every day life, his new position, or the fact that Caleb Harcourt and annalise henderson were still nowhere to be found.

[break][break] the warmth of whisky burned through him, slurring his thoughts. well-fed and warmed, there was nothing that ollie would not have done in that moment, nothing that he wouldn't have —

[break][break] "can i kiss you...?"

[break][break] surprise widened in malachite green.

[break][break] "i — "

[break][break] 'i don't swing that way. i'm not — '

[break][break] but the heat of their legs pressed against each other, the alcohol still simmering under his skin. or maybe it was the heat, in the way that gideon looked at him, in that moment. maybe it was the way he felt suddenly seen.

[break][break] maybe it was the way those umber eyes suddenly reminded him of ocean blue.

[break][break] his hand untangles from the other's suddenly, as he reaches for the other man's face. a palm cups his cheek warmly, before ollie is leaning forward, brushing his lips in the other's in a drunken haze.

Hearing his name pass through those lips was invitation enough for GIDEON GRAVES. [break][break]

It sparked a drunken, burning need in him that he'd never felt around ollie morales before. Their friendship faded into the background of his mind, overtaken by only one, more primal thought: [break][break]

I want him.

Their kiss was not the stumbling interlock of two ginger virgins. It was not gentle nor hesitant nor romantic.[break][break]

It was fervent and breathy, with Gideon threading his own fingers through the hair above Ollie's neck, pulling him closer.[break][break]

It was tinged by the scent of whiskey and the feeling of letting go. [break][break]

When Gideon pressed his tongue deeper, savoring the taste, his glasses bumped higher off the bridge of his nose. Not that they were of any use; they'd long fogged up by now. In the same movement, the stool he'd sat on also fell backwards, clattering to the floor.[break][break]

The sound made him pause, but not retreat.[break][break]

"Fuck, Ollie..." There was a longing in the way he called his friend's name.

[break][break] as much as he would deny it until his dying breath in the sober light of day, ollie - a man who claimed to be straight as the path was narrow - was perhaps not all that it seemed. perhaps, there was a part of ollie that was burning up inside, a slow and torrid flame that simply ached to be ignited.

[break][break] people had tried before.

[break][break] there was Caleb Harcourt, and then boruta maher.

[break][break] but it was GIDEON GRAVES that sought to claim it today, and claim it he did. pulled forward by heat and desire, their lips pressed together with sudden urgency. ollie released a sound that was somewhere between a hum and a growl, endeared to his friend in a way that he had never been before, his knee pressing against urgent need. a hand slid against gideon's throat, thumb brushing against the man's adam's apple.

[break][break] the sound of the fallen stool clattered somewhere in the back of his mind, but ollie's thoughts didn't capture it. instead, desire stirred where confusion once lay, a hand gripping against gideon's hip to pull him closer. a tongue dashed against the director's bottom lip, pressing softly, before he reached over to grab fogged up lenses.

[break][break] he placed it down onto the table next to them, before grabbing gideon's hips with both of his hands and tugged him onto his lap.

With ollie morales's consenting touch, relief and desire intertwined in a heady mixture not unlike the intoxication brought on by their numerous drinks.[break][break]

The alcohol eased inhibitions, as did his friend's reciprocation. It made Gideon bold. Made him want even more. Months of pain and worry and exhaustion melted away with each successive kiss, making room for needs he'd long been suppressing.[break][break]

When there was a moment of reprieve, he felt his glasses being taken off and hands pulling on his hips, beckoning him closer. Then suddenly GIDEON GRAVES found himself straddling his friend, legs braced on either side of him. A small sound of surprise escaped as he clutched at Ollie's shoulders, but he soon found his balance on the man's lap.[break][break]

The stool beneath them groaned with the added weight, but somehow held.[break][break]

Hearing his nickname, Gideon leaned down and smiled into Ollie's lips. "You're a surprisingly good kisser." He confessed, a teasing lilt to his drunken words.[break][break]

[break][break] "does it matter?" he said hastily instead, pulling back to stare into gideon's eyes. both his hands grabbed the sides of gideon's face, pulling him down to meet his lips. he claimed his mouth again in another kiss, tongue flicking against the roof of his mouth, indulging in the heady scent of desire. he tasted whisky and sandalwood.

Not to GIDEON GRAVES. All he desired in this moment was ollie morales, and to hear the other man felt the same... that he showed it, not only with his words, but with an eager hand and greedy lips—[break][break]

Grabbing Ollie's hand with a firm but affectionate hold, he'd guide them together in slaking their mutual need.
