Shuwen paces across Hattori’s red world. Across from him is the big beast, the Aerodactyl. Above them all hovers the mother of storms. If only he was stronger, a little cleverer.[break][break]
He watches Shuwen’s expression. The great black bear does not advance, not yet. Kicking back, he grabs Hattori’s Lord with no warning. They’re all pulled into a bear hug. A white, glimmering shield surrounds them all. Shuwen’s fighting spirit protects them from the storm.[break][break]
At least until a bolt pierces through, striking the bear on the back. Shuwen makes no sound except to cough. When Hattori can see the world again, they’re alone. Adrift on the island. His Lord whispers apologies as he’s recalled into the ball.[break][break]
They’re recovered within the day. His part in the rescue is done. Navy and his Pokemon were knocked off to distract the strongest piece on the board.[break][break]
Reading the report later, he says it’s a fair trade. Navy says a quiet prayer to Arceus that he survived at all, especially with his team intact. In tatters, but alive. Lizzy’s a lucky gal. She got off light. Nothing was torn off that can’t regrow. Shuwen proves sore where the lightning struck him. Hattori got the worst of it. The frog’s right eye will never recover. It is lost for good.[break][break]
He’ll wear an eyepatch for the rest of his days, proof of his good service.[break][break]
Shinobi and Lord are bound together by one common thread: they resolve to weather the storm that is Cillian Quinn until they have the strength to break him.
