Fortunately, the more Hideo visited this place, the better Uxie was getting at protecting him from the core's psychological manipulations. It wasn't yet perfect, and probably wouldn't ever be, but the dread Hideo felt approaching the core was lessening with each new visit.

Or perhaps he was just getting used to it.

"So at this part, we gotta make a choice," Hideo said, assuming he was the more experienced one here. "Either one of us goes in and takes the brunt of it like a shield, or we go together and share it. It ain't pleasant; it's like the paranoia thing this Wild causes but in overdrive. And Uxie can only protect us so well."

Uxie was floating by his side, its mental shielding extending towards Eva and her Pokemon as well.

"I'd vote for sharing. But uh, just know that once we start mining, Pokemon are gonna start showing up. Including some weird ones."

This isn’t Eva’s first time venturing into the unknown. Well, they know more about it now than merely a day or two ago. The data comes pouring in; but it’s not enough. Eva needs more, craves more. Unanswered questions hang heavy on her shoulders. She shouldn’t, but she takes every chance she gets to dive into the belly of the beast.

“Yes, together,” she agrees. Her soft smile spreads from Hideo to Uxie, a subtle nod in recognition as she feels the barrier brush against her consciousness. His help is small in comparison to the legendary, but Blade, the Gallade, joins them. Together, Hideo and Eva approach the pulsing organ and SHARE THE BRUNT of its onslaught.

With a nod, Hideo advances, Uxie close by his side. The mental barrier helps, but he can still feel that forceful sense of distress and fear. The sooner they got what they came here for, the sooner they could get out - and the fewer wandering Pokemon to contend with.

Hideo lets out his Excadrill - a Pokemon strong enough to mine the ore, but also delicate enough to not cause a(nother) cave-in. He also let out his Diggersby, a Pokemon he'd rarely used, but whose name was appropriate to its skills.

It would mainly leave Uxie to help deal with any incoming Pokemon, its Mystical Power working to push back at any incoming Pokemon. "Got any Pokemon that can help mine stuff? Just be careful it's not something too big; last guy I came here with caused a small cave-in."

One that already seemed to be fixed by the time they'd returned. He was learning not to question too much about the Wilds at this point.

The other times she oversaw the mining operation, she focused on keeping herself at full bore to observe and collect data. Strategy was the key to success. Without adequate knowledge of this particular rift, there were dangers that could halt the whole operation in its tracks. That wouldn’t be useful, now would it?

This time, Eva felt more comfortable focusing on the mining. The area was rich with artifacts begging to be studied. Hideo seemed experienced enough in this world to trust with their safety. Her hand plucks a pokeball from her waist, “Got it,” the expected the need for a small pokemon. She didn’t know the fragility of these artifacts and precision would likely be important.

The light flashes across the dark crystals and a HITMONTOP appears. The pokemon’s accuracy helps it pinpoint the ideal location to DIGas they focus on the important task of MINING.

Their Pokemon made good progress with their mining, but just as every other time Hideo had come down here, the weird creatures started to appear.

This time, the one that appeared before them was on the smaller side. It looked like a classical wizard, with a shell on its head shaped like a wizard hat.

And just like the wizard it appeared as, it raised a stubby hand in the air, an Icy Wind blowing through the area, threatening the miners. "Gotta take this one down fast," Hideo said, Uxie's attention turning towards the strange creature. The small pixie let out a Dazzling Gleam, pushing the strange creature back.

And in return, the strange creature fired a Mystical Fire at Uxie. The small flame hit true, though Uxie was hardly burnt by it; Hideo could count himself lucky that Uxie was a tough pixie.

Each trip down here was unique, and these strange creature kept surprising her. Eva grit her teeth at the sight of the unnatural amalgamation of pokemon. It truly was a cruel creature that forced something like this into reality.

Eva pressed her fingers to her lips and let out a sharp whistle. The Hitmontop that was focused on digging popped out of his hole. Its wide eyes fixated on the intruder as it spit fire towards Uxie. The pokemon used the distraction to dash forward at a quickened pace before smacking it with a TRIPLE KICK meant to send it flying back to where it came from.

You must escape with your gathered material. Your ally or allies may be incapacitated by the paranoia settling in their psyches, or perhaps, the eldritch mutations beginning to metamorphose their body or bodies.[break][break]

Depending on how much your characters have mined, you may need to lessen your extracted load to ensure successful escape from this wretched place. After all, the horrors that reside here may make chase.

With the dark, mage-like creature kicked into nothingness, it was now a matter of getting out of the place intact. The two of them did a good job holding back the attacking Pokemon, and their Pokemon were able to mine out a good amount of material.

But the mental shielding Uxie provided had its limits, and Hideo could feel the fear and paranoia encroaching even as their situation was going well. Good thing Hideo's diggers were also strong carriers. "Think it's 'bout time we head out of here," he said, his Excadrill and Diggersby hauling full bags of ore.

Uxie flew over to him, taking its usual spot on his shoulders. "Everyone accounted for? Then let's go!" Felt good to be able to take a full haul with them this time; not every mining session went so well.
