Being a former semipro Pokémon racer turned Gym Leader had given Josh quite the reputation. Mauville Gym had an incredible history behind it, as well, and it was one he routinely shared with Hoenn's hopefuls: up-and-coming trainers and Pokémon racers that, one day, he hopes would be just as famous and renowned as he was for skills he would develop in them through the Gym Challenge.

Today, that person would be Toshiaki Macallan , a talented racer that had performed well in the pilot event for the Silph Cup that had become one of the most followed sporting events not just in Hoenn, but throughout the world. Gym Leader Josh Devlin had truly put Pokémon racing on the map. Even more than being a Gym Leader, it was his crowning achievement as a Hoennian, providing quality entertainment the region never thought it needed.

Today, he would be sharing that history from the saddle of one of his most special Pokémon: Raikiri, his quadrupedal Zeraora. An electric cat his delusional mind once thought was an incarnation of Raikou, he was the fastest land Pokémon Josh had. And if Toshiaki desired, there was room for a second in the striped feline's saddle for the trip around Mauville Racing Grounds.
