Ultra Megalopolis - Pokémon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon

A RUINED CITY IN ULTRA SPACE. It is unclear whether this is a different universe's Ultra Megalopolis or smaller colony. Regardless, it is a dark city with intermittent sections of flickering, artificial light... Large, black prism-like skyscrapers loom above flat black streets. Much ruin has fallen here, but you get the sense that you're not alone...

the coin slot for the vending machine perfectly fits one of the defunct z-crystals lying on the floor around the vending machine. the connection is made, and the result brings a loud clink as the drink drops to the chute.

kyle leans over and takes the drink. it was still cold and refrigerated, which was surprising given the state of disarray that the city had been.

"this is creepy, in a ghost town kind of way," he observes, opening the drink with a fizz as he looks around. "at least it's not like mechanical kingdom with all the skeleton around."

he takes one sip, and immediately cringes. it definitely wasn't an authentic taste he'd expect, but at least it wasn't human meat flavor that one would stereotype a megalopolan city would have.

"want a taste?" he offers matias.

the offered drink is sipped at for a few seconds before the taste hits him. he forces down whatever remains in his mouth before lowering the can.[break][break]

"it tastes...odd. rotten, maybe? i can't find the word for it."[break][break]

despite that, it's not as bad as it could have been. maybe it's the company he finds himself with that lessens it because all he can think about is how familiar all of this feels: adventuring with kyle, doing reckless things that should really get them killed, and laughing about it at the end of the day.[break][break]

kyle doesn't like to waste, and so he keeps the bottle, and then some, in a bag to share with others later. he's sure someone with weird taste buds would like it.

their little break ends and they find themselves exploring the rest of the building. words were printed on the entrance, but without knowing what script megalopolans use, kyle would only be able to figure out the building's purpose with the furniture they see upon moving deeper.

"oh, hey. this looks familiar."

the front desk leads him to think it's some sort of facility, and the well-spaced desks deeper inside suggests that it was some sort of office. kyle investigates the latter, eventually finding handcuffs on one of it's drawers.

"i knew it." kyle picks it up and twirls it on one of his fingers. "you're under arrest mister silph. put your hands behind your head and get down."

having a linguist accompanying them would have been helpful but he imagines they might prove more of a libiality than help. he pulls out his phone and snaps pictures of the words printed on the entrance.

briefly, he wonders how long it would take to learn the language. he will have to ask Eva Morales even if it's not her specialty; she's still who he goes to for help.[break][break]

at the sight of kyle twirling a pair of handcuffs, he laughs, then quickly silences himself when he hears something.[break][break]

he sits still as soon as matias instructs him to. silence fills the room the next moment, and the shambling makes itself known to both the king and his knight.

kyle quickly lowers himself to the ground as he sneaks forward to investigate, using the abandoned desks and half-walls of the unmanned police station as cover. with a cock of his head, he invites matias to follow him.

from the safety of indoors, shapes of what seemed to be the living dead appear on the streets outside.

kyle immediately pins what they are, but the behavior was something that leaves his surprised. it differs from the madness that those who invaded their region inhibited.

compared to the ravenously hungry that once kidnapped people of hoenn, this breed of megalopolans show a different shade of madness. he can't give an answer on which one was arguably the worse state.

for all his years spent fighting battles, stealth has often eluded him. he would rather take the forward approach, announce his presence, and fight his way out of whatever sticky situation he placed himself in.[break][break]

can't really do that here, though.[break][break]

with his two fingers extended, he makes a gesture to suggest that they should just circle around the swarm. the gesture could be easily missed, however, due to the sudden loss of light around them.[break][break]

darkness falls and kyle finds himself alone.

making noise to find matias wasn't an option, and so did moving around and feeling things out in case he stumbles upon something. if staying still was the only other move, however, then kyle would rather risk it.

his hands feel his surroundings, and eventually chances on the surface of a desk. fingers slip through something, and a clanging sound echoes throughout the room as something activates on the floor.

a glowing beast ring illuminates the area.

"i think we can run away now."

he takes the beast ring as their light source and tugs matias with him on the way to the back door. if he guesses that the megalopolan has a similar civilization, then the fire exit should be right where it should be.

they can get away from the hoard that way, he supposed.

a pokeball bursts open in sync with the cracking of his TERA ORB. the dark-scaled charizard now encased in TERA CRYSTALS rushes into the hoard, scattering them with DRAGON PULSES.[break][break]

as they get out, signs of ultra beasts getting attracted to the ring appear from a distance.

although matias has taken care of the hoard, there was no telling how resilient they are, or if they have backup. the easiest option shows presents itself from the elite four's lips.

"portal," kyle decides as silhouettes of ultra beasts get closer.

with his free hand, he takes a pokeball out and releases his solgaleo. it opens up a wormhole for them to enter, giving them a convenient exit before they get sandwiched by the zombie megalopolans and the ultra beasts.

"after you."
