Having bought a boo he peruses the inside cover as he walks, unwittingly finding himself in the line for caffeine. So deep in his thoughts he finds himself bumping into someone.

"Ope! Sorry, that's my fa-" they die in his throat as he looks up and realizes the truth. Eyes like bubbling lava, hair a red that shines orange in most sunlight. He blinks then swallow.

The summer was a snow globe cluttered with clumps of sleet and isolation. After weeks worth of self-burial, the councilwoman was just beginning to cross the bridge of social requirements, starting with small steps, like quick visits to her personal favorite mom and pop shops.

When she first dipped down from her staraptor, and breathed in the bath of gold that washed over this precious piece of history, uncertainty swarmed her heart.

The last time she was here, so much was different.
[Break][break]
It was a different time, a different hoenn, a different PENELOPE LIVY.

If it hadn't been the other certainty - of an emptied apartment, haunted both by memories and the spectral image of a set of jade beads - that hunched over her shoulder, breathing reminders into the crook of her neck, she would've turned around. Maybe back home, maybe elsewhere.

The familiar jingle of the entrance's bell stirred something inside her stomach when she entered, and it continued to follow her for the rest of her trip, like a shadow not even the light can catch. It clung onto every spine she caressed, every page she sifted through, every whispered apology she murmured as she shifted between aisle, slipping from non fiction to fiction to horror to sci-fi to fantasy. Through every leap of genre, she could feel herself slinking through time, moving from the present to the humble past of yesterday.

By the end of it, she'd found herself waiting in line for a mocha latte like it was any other average day.
