The cave looms ahead. From deeper within, Navy hears buzzing. For the moment, they’re safe. The combee swarm hasn’t noticed them yet. Bees. It’s always bees.[break][break]
“Shit…never considered the idea something like this could happen before today.” His admission to Noel is accompanied by apprehension. “The battle back in April was a bloodbath. Only Arceus knows just how many Pokemon died that day. Never considered the possibility of a vespiquen getting lost down there. Built herself a whole hive in Eternatus’s guts.”[break][break]
Perhaps that name is supposed to be a secret. By itself, the name Eternatus is useless. Besides, he trusts Noel. There’s a certain earnestness to the boy that makes Navy doubt he could be a Rocket spy. Well – that, and the bruises the boy had when he came back from a trip to Sootopolis.[break][break]
“Stay on your toes. We won’t have Shuwen to bail us out again.” The buzzing draws nearer. “Nobody’s briefed you on ultra space, have they?” Of course they haven’t. Navy’s his boss. Somehow, he doubts Noel has any other friends in high places who would spill the beans.

Noel gives off a puzzled look towards Navy, the name ultra space was something he had yet to hear. He couldn't even begin to imagine what such a term could even mean. During his time in the League he was taught many things surely but this kind of information wasn't the type to be spread around to the newer recruits. [break][break]

"No I've never heard of whatever that is before. Is that what's causing all these Pokemon to turn feral like that?" What can we do to stop it?"[break][break]

Completely oblivious to the world around him, Noel's point of view was that of a student's practically. He only ever looked at the things in front of him and everything else was of no importance. Even now his first priority is to get out of this situation safely and find some way to either save these turned Pokemon or put them out of their misery.

“Hattori,” the sheriff begins, “get me a combee. Don’t be seen.” His shinobi nods and disappears into the darkness. It’s just them now. Them and that buzzing noise, always on the edge of their hearing.[break][break]
“You’ll notice we say the caves are closed off to the public. These days, the excuse is ‘cause I keep Vortigern and his buddies here. Truth is…there’s a rift to another dimension deep inside this cave. It takes us to a place we call the Ultra Deep Sea. Really, it’s inside something.”[break][break]
Something. What an understatement. They crawl through the guts of a sleeping god like microbacteria. They feed upon it, supping upon powers they do not understand.[break][break]
“There’s ultra beasts down there. Pokemon that can do weird shit. If you want a better explanation than that, climb the ranks and ask the beauty queen eggheads at HQ.” Somehow, he doubts Illeana or Eva would find that description flattering.[break][break]
“One we care ‘bout is Nihilego. Their neurotoxin does weird stuff to Pokemon. It can even reanimate ‘em. I think a Vespiquen died down there. The Nihilego reanimated it, and now we’ve got a nest of dead combee coming out to cause trouble.”[break][break]
Hattori returns with a deceased combee in tow. Laying it down, Navy risks a little more light to show it to Noel. They’re afforded the opportunity to look at it: really look at it.[break][break]
Its eyes are no more. Normally, their bodies are cute little honey combs. The combs look like they have been gorged out by something’s teeth. Their wings are chipped.[break][break]
“You starting to see the big picture, kid? This is the kind of shit you deal with if you start playing in the big leagues around here.”

Gazing down at what once was a harmless little bee you could find commonly amongst the people, Noel instead only saw something grotesque and out of this world, as if it shouldn't exist. He couldn't help but be disgusted at this revelation, the fact that there are forces at play, much larger than him, causing such horrors was just utterly wrong. [break][break]

"But... Tell me there's a way to fix this. Tell me the League has some sort of plan to put an end to this."[break][break]

Even though the words came out of his mouth, he knew these Pokemon were done for. Whatever horrid transformation they had gone though seemed like it could not be reversed. Anger began to run through his mind, innocent Pokemon that had to suffer all because of something they couldn't control could not be allowed, it shouldn't be allowed, he thought. [break][break]

"There's got to be something I can do right? I can't sit idly by knowing all this now, I don't care what it takes Navy, I want to help stop this in any way I can."

“Not alone. tried killing it with Groudon.” His words are seasoned with bitter grief. “Even that didn’t even scratch it. Sad truth is…we’re just waiting. Waiting until something happens or Rocket forces the issue. Maybe a miracle will happen and the beauty queens will figure out a way to make this all go away. Until then…we just treat the symptoms. It’ll take better men than us to find the cause.”[break][break]
More bees are upon them. Hattori signals the trainers by throwing out more water shuriken. The bees fall. They’ll have to cut their way through. To augment the frontline, Navy throws out Roland. He’s never used this particular Pokemon before in front of Noel. The scientists call it Iron Valiant.[break][break]
To Navy, it is simply Roland. Even other Iron Valiants do not look as he does. One-armed, the warrior fires a moon blast that clears a path through the combee and scorches the wall. He charges on, urging them to follow.[break][break]
“Helping means holding the world together another day. That’s our job, deputy. It’s thankless. The people up top? They’re too busy fussing with each other over who’s sleeping with who to care half the time.”

Noel didn't understand. How could the people in charge of the well-being of everyone in Hoenn be squabbling over such ridiculous drama? He resolved to be better than them, to one day be in a position to meet the head leaders of the League and knock some sense into them. This just can't be the organization that he's working under, he thought, surely this wasn't true. Yet the doubt was instilled in his mind and he now would attempt to rise to the rank of Champion, not just for the glory of being the strongest, but also in order to change the League and attempt to reform it to something more fitting of his ideals, whether for better or worse.[break][break]

However in his current situation the immediate worry was just to survive. Noel snaps out of his trance from hearing this revelation from Navy and from gazing down at the turned Combee, lifting his head up to witness another powerful-looking Pokemon in Navy's arsenal.[break][break]

"It sounds like the League is led by a bunch of clowns. Who decided they should be let in charge? If I had it my way they would all be shut down and be replaced with more competent trainers that actually care about the world."[break][break]

He began to walk forward past the Iron Valiant and the burned Combee remains, not commenting on the metallic, futuristic design of the Pokemon that he would have otherwise discussed in any other situation.[break][break]

"Come on sheriff, we've got a job to do. Let's stop whatever is causing this and lay these Combee to rest."[break][break]

There was hatred in his voice. For once he had taken the reins of command away from Navy, if just for this one moment. With determination to make things right, he delves deeper into the cave to find the source of one of this region's suffering.

It’s like listening to Gabe after Slateport was attacked. Noel’s less eloquent, but the point remains the same. Idealistic as the boy had been, there was fury underneath. That fury is what trained him to push Sol in the nigh-suicidal direction he did. His Charizard burns brighter than any flame, but extinguishes himself far too quick.[break][break]
Allowing Noel to take the reins, Navy follows. Roland and Hattori seem to dance around them. Roland’s blade and Hattori’s kunai strike out at the attacking combee. Tight-packed as these caves are, that only makes them easy targets. Besides, they’ll be in friendly territory soon. Here there be dragons.[break][break]
“They care. Some of them cared. I keep telling you, kid. Real world’s rough. Politics suck. The moment someone else gets as much say as you, they’ll say no on something. You’ll disagree. Won’t be able to just solve it with a pokemon battle.” He tosses more seeds upon solid stone. The notion that there is more to life than strength will no more take root now than it has the last half-hundred times he has played the role of farmer.[break][break]
“All you can do is try. Most of ‘em do. …they just try about the wrong things sometime. When you see the world up top, you forget that the people walking on the ground below are people. They’ve all got stories. All got hopes, dreams. You see the big picture and forget all the little things that make the picture worth enjoying.”[break][break]
That’s why, even if the spot came free, he wouldn’t join the Elite 4. He’d rather be on the ground with the people than fighting in that ivory tower. Besides, got his foot in the door for the room where it happens.

The corpses of Combee falling from both Pokemon's attacks only cemented in Noel's mind how unfair the world was, why weren't those so called "council people" down here with them helping? Why must innocent Pokemon have to suffer from both their own kind and Rocket, with the ones that are supposed to be aiding them endlessly bickering instead. Noel's fists were clenched, anger was building inside him but he had no way to release it. As he looks down while stepping over the fallen remains of the once lovable Pokemon, there is a mix of sadness and rage in his eyes.[break][break]

"It's just not fair Navy, they don't deserve to be called trainers if they won't come down here themselves and try to fix these problems. If I ever make it up there I'll be different, I'll-- Wait, do you hear that?"[break][break]

His train of thought is interrupted when the earth around them begins to shake, the walls begin to crumble as two Druddigons crash through the rocky surfaces from both sides. They emerge with a roar and their claws ready to destroy anything in their path. It seemed as if a fight was inevitable until Noel's own Druddigon jumps out of his Pokeball, roaring back at the two wild ones. After a moment of them exchanging shouts which eventually simmered down into grunts, the two look to each other before retreating back into one of the paths they had made. Noel's own Pokemon looks back to the trainers and snorts, nodding its head to them, then walking behind them.[break][break]

"Huh... it seems like they want us to follow them, this is more than likely their home and want help getting rid of this Vespiqueen that's invaded. They probably know this cave better than we do, let's make haste and finish off this monster that's causing this."[break][break]

It didn't take long for them to travel through the cave, as after a short amount of time they enter into a much larger space, and there was the creature they had sought after. A massive Vespiqueen that was in the process of what looked like the creation of even more Combee out of its body. The Pokemon had yet to notice its guests as its back was turned to them.[break][break]

"There it is Navy. Noel whispers, "How do we go about this, an all out attack?"

The arrival of two Druddigon doesn’t phase Navy. Instead, he waves up at them. Vortigern attracts more than just Garchomp down into the cave, it seems.[break][break]
“Hey there, neighbor.” He waves up at them and offers a friendly smile. Neither dragon seems keen to acknowledge him. From wild dragon Pokemon, that may as well be an offer to come inside and grab some coffee.[break][break]
They have one more calm before the storm. From here on out, it’ll be a fight. Navy calls out Hattori. He’s fought these monsters before. Together, Hattori and ’s Luxray, Reiner, took down a whole hive. There are few Pokemon he trusts as much as the little frog.[break][break]
“Listen, Noel. I know you have a one-track mind, but not everybody’s a trainer. was a reporter before she got on the council. runs a company. ’s the closest to a traditional trainer but even she’s got a lot going on besides that. People have identities outside of being battlers.” There’s a small, near imperceptible pause in his words. A sad thought passes through his head.[break][break]
Well, unless you’re like us.[break][break]
This war is all he’ll ever have. Penny and Fernando will do fine in a peaceful world. Freya’s dragons will make for excellent peacekeeping forces.[break][break]
Somehow, he doubts there will be a place for him in that tomorrow. Best to focus on today. Noel asked a reasonable question.[break][break]
“Your friends and you will take her down while Hattori distracts her.” Hattori was nodding along until the last three words. His eye goes wide. His heart near stops in his chest. “Come on, little guy. I know you can do it.”[break][break]
Steeling himself and standing up straight, his greninja disappears. When he’s sighed once more, he seems to teleport out of nowhere on the far side of the cave. Kicking the hornet’s nest, he launches a flurry of shuriken off at the queen. She buzzes angrily. Her back is wide open – a perfect target for three angry dragons.

With the commencement of their assault against the large titan, Noel's Druddigon, along with the two wild Pokemon, begin to hack away at the back of the Vespiqueen using their Dragon Claws, leaving deep gashes across its body. Yet this seemed to be with no effect as it was nothing more than a scratch to the giant creature. Its eyes begin to glow a bright red, it lifts its arms up and with them rises the large crystals beneath the creature. One by one it hurls these Power Gems towards everyone in the room, each Druddigon pelted over and over again by the blunt force, if it weren't for their sturdy and large bodies they surely would have fallen at the first blow. Noel narrowly avoids one of the projectiles causing it to smash against the wall beside them with a cloud of rock dust forming from the force.[break][break]

"It looks like this isn't going to be as easy as we thought when we first arrived huh Navy?" He says while coughing between his sentences. "I've never seen such a large Pokemon before, its absolutely massive."[break][break]

If they weren't careful this could easily be the end of all of them. This Vespiqueen clearly had the upper hand with its gigantic frame and more than likely had an array of attacks to use at its disposal for when the time was right. Noel wasn't sure if he could handle such a large-scale battle if he were all on his own, but with Navy by his side, the two of them could at least stand a chance.[break][break]
